The military scrambled two F-16 fighters jets Friday morning after two small private aircraft violated restricted air space related to President Barack Obama's visit to Las Vegas, Nevada, the North American Aerospace Defense Command said.

Both planes that violated the restricted airspace landed at nearby airports and were met by authorities, NORAD said.

You've got to check those TFRs (temporary flight restrictions) everytime you travel by private plane. Now they're called VIP restrictions and can include anyone the government "deems" a VIP. These temporary no fly zones are usually 60 miles in diameter and can be established at a moments notice.

It seems our right's are increasingly made subservient to paranoid federal tyrants for baseless, unconsitutional and frivolous reasons.

Probably some So Cal Boeing engineers flying to vegas by following the freeways. Wouldn’t be surprised.

NORAD fighters respond to aircraft near Las Vegas

July 9, 2010

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. - Two F-16 fighters under the direction of North American Aerospace Defense Command responded to two single engine aircraft viol ating a temporary flight restricted area in the vicinity of Las Vegas today.

The fighters, on station to enforce the TFR, intercepted the first aircraft, a Cessna 210, at approximately 7:05 a.m. PDT and the other single engine general aviation aircraft at approximately 7:34 a.m. PDT. The Cessna landed at the North Las Vegas Airport where it was met by local authorities and the second aircraft landed in Mesquite, Nevada where it was met by authorities.

NORAD’s mission – in close collaboration with homeland defense, security, and law enforcement partners – is to prevent air attacks against North America, safeguard the sovereign airspaces of the United States and Canada by responding to unknown, unwanted and unauthorized air activity approaching and operating within these airspaces, and provide aerospace and maritime warning for North America. NORAD may be required to monitor, shadow, divert from flight path, direct to land and/or destroy platforms deemed a potential threat to North America.

NORAD is the bi-national Canadian and American command that is responsible for the air defense of North America and maritime warning.

The way this puke is traveling all over the country every day, I’m surprised any private aircraft can fly. We’re going to need a new AF1 when this jerk gets fired.

Believe it or not, the Academy of Model Aeronautics, the governing body of radio controlled aircraft, also sends out notifications of TFRs when Obama is visiting the area. This means that I can't fly my little 5-ft wing model airplane within 35 miles of the jackass.

In May, I was told by an AMA official that he's had to send out over 100 of these things since The One ascended. He said that there were plenty of PO'd people when Hawaii was essentially shut down while the Obamas vacationed there at Christmas time.

I think it's about time organizations with airspace concerns file a class action lawsuit to put a stop to some of this. These TFRs disrupt commercial air traffic as well.

I might get banned for saying this, but AF1 must smell really horrid after having had Michelle and Barack on it for more than a year.

If Sarah wins in 2012, then she and Todd are going to need to have 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue fumigated before they & the kids can live there.

Yep. NORAD should be able to see the combined Russian/Chinese attack on the USA well before it gets here. The problem is, we won’t be able to stop it and our country will be wiped off the map.

Also, remember that we no longer will launch on warning.

There is something about an F-16 going vertical with afterburner in front of your windscreen that really gets your attention. It happened to me once but I guess since he/she didn't form up off of our wing that it was just MOA traffic and they were probably just using us for intercept training.

Seriously, these extremely large airspace restrictions in maximum deference to the Pharaoh/King/VIP and to hell with the concerns of peasants needs to stop. They should check out "www.gotomeeting.com" or everyone travel to see the "Pharaoh/King/Queen" as has been the procedure throughout history.

The Crawford restricted space wasn't that big. It was only after he was tracked going towards the area that he was ‘waved’ off. They didn't even make him land, but had to fill out paper work in Abilene.

I'm not sure, but I think this all started around the Carter days. They used to have a small restricted area around his farm in Plains Georgia.

Bush has one now around his house in Dallas just a few miles from the DFW airport.

These are a pain but nothing like excessive 60 mile diameter restricted zones put in place around AF1 or Marine1 landings.
