Let's Face It, Chicago's Mayor Richard Daley Wants to Ban Guns, All Guns
Fox News ^ | July 9, 2010 | john R. Lott Jr.

Posted on 07/09/2010 8:33:03 PM PDT by JohnRLott

As always, gun control proponents say they merely want "reasonable" gun control laws. Yet, when listing the actual laws they favor, they go well beyond what most people would possibly consider "reasonable." Just look at the gun bans in Chicago and Washington, D.C. that local politicians and gun control organizations such as the Brady Campaign and the Violence Policy Center have fought to protect.

Last Friday, just days after the Supreme Court struck down Chicago's handgun ban, Chicago enacted strict new gun control laws. These new restrictions surely do not seem "reasonable" but rather intended to make life as difficult as possible for those who legally want to own a gun. Among the regulations is a complete ban on selling guns in Chicago. Also five hours of training is required, which may seem reasonable, but that training is forbidden to take place within the Chicago city limits.

And the list of odd restrictions in Chicago goes on. While people can own a handgun for protection in their homes, it only applies to some parts of what most people would consider their home: the gun cannot be used for self-defense in one's yard or garage, nor on your porch, even if it is enclosed. . . .

Do you have any insight into why Daley is so rabidly obsessed with the gun control issue?

He can want whatever he chooses to. Doesn't mean he can do it.

Not that the SOB won't keep trying.

The Supreme Court should declare Da Mayor, and such of the City Council that voted for this, as being in Contempt. Then throw their ashes in their own jails.

He’s already lost this war! Further actions will just delay the inevitable... Legal possession, less crime.. He just simply does not want that to happen (I guess, loss of control...heh).

He is one of the old statists that can’t abide by law - he will soon be removed...

OTOH, we apparently have a nice new, empty, jail just to the west of Chicago, near the Iowa border. Put ‘em in there, with the terrorists.

Last Friday, just days after the Supreme Court struck down Chicago's handgun ban

Ok, let him start with disarming his security guards and all the cops in Chicago. If he succeeds in that and it flies for six months or so, then let him make his case to the general public that they will also be safer without guns.

He could start by banning his bodyguards from having guns.

That's why Daley is doing this: the SCOTUS avoided the issue, so he rammed forward as if nothing happened, because technically, it didn't - yet.

Just once I would love to see some conservative state take the “reasonable” gun laws and apply them, line by line to the press. High Speed Printers capable of more than 100 PPM would need special licenses, reporting will require a license and a 3 day state training class, etc.

It would be fun to do this without copping to the fact that it was paraphrased gun laws. Watch the press scream, then point out it’s just the same reasonable laws they (lib press) are always supporting for the 2nd applied to their beloved 1st.

Watch the fur fly the first time some smart-ass says

“high speed assault printers, printers of mass distribution such as those used by the New York Times could be very dangerous in the wrong hands. Look, Hitler owned newspapers, without his newspapers the holocaust could never have happened. We need to prevent another Hitler from gaining access to High Speed Assault Printers again, surely everyone can agree on this sensible regulation”

Journalists don't love the First Amendment.
What they love is themselves; they think they are "the press" - even tho books, for example, are obviously covered by the term "the press."
That matters because what they actually go for, in unconstitutional "laws" like McCain-Feingold, is not rights for all but special privilegesfor themselves.
IOW, they want "the press" to be considered a title of nobility exclusively for themselves. And they expect to define who is "a member of the press"" and who is not.

Yes I believe he does. But I'd place a large wager he has personal security for himself and his family. And I'd place an even larger wager that those in his security detail are armed. I'm shooting from the hip but I'd bet anything this guy is a hypocrite. The man is scum.

*** Do you have any insight into why Daley is so rabidly obsessed with the gun control issue? ***

'scuse me for buttin' in, and the day late comment - but I do.

Grwoing up in Chicago and having a friend who went to HS with Daley (De La Salle) its because ..

Daley has a small wee-wee.
And a gun is a phallic symbol (per that Austrian dude, Sigmund Fraud)
So Daley has 'penis envy'
(too bad he just couldn't buy a Corvette like everyone else)

Okay, all joking aside. I think its because he got his butt kicked almost every week in the Locker Room after Gym Class(1). So now that he has POWER, and a lot of POWER, he's getting 'even' with all those phantom bullies who occupy his empty skull.

In short, he's a mentally ill psychotic.(I'm 'series' here)

(1) To the mutt's credit he never ratted on anyone.
Then again, ALL the Daley brothers went to De La Salle and Richie was the only one everyone hated.

*** Just to think that Chicago has a crime problem now, just wait. ***

'Just Wait', Holy shiite, didn't you hear what happened Thurs afternoon in Chi?
There was even a thread yesterday on it.

Here's the short version..

A Chicago Cop, in full uniform, just gets off duty and is walking to his car In The Police Station Parking Lot.

This black yute, sneaks up behind him, grabs his gun, there's a struggle, and the 'yute' shoots the Cop DEAD, right there in broad daylight, and with other Cops in full view!

The maggot runs across the street with the dead Cop's gun, a gun fight with cops ensues, and the Cop Killer winds up wounded and is now in the Hospital - at taxpayers expense. And unfortunately the maggot is gonna live and fully recover.

This 'black yute' is 24yo, and has .. get ready ... 21 Prior Felony Arrests!
Yet he was walking around free as a bird.

Now this far Daley has not tried to use this in his 'anti gun violence' crusade.
And he better not, the cops hate his guts already (THAT is a story unto itself)

Mayor Shortshanks fears armed citizens because armed citizens have the potential of killing countless numbers of his voters.

Actually Freud says much the opposite of what you imply:

Freud associates retarded sexual/emotional development not with gun ownership, but with fear and loathing of weapons. (S. Freud & D. Oppenheim, DREAMS IN FOLKLORE (1958) at 33.)

From “Gun Control: A Realistic Assessment” by Don Cates.

Newbie. I was being sarcastic about Freud.
(Misspelling his name should have been the tipoff. But you'll catch on eventually to FReeper sarcasm and humor)

But I wasn't about Richie Daley's *problems* in HS. Now he's getting even with all his 'lessers' who bullied him. Even though they are phantoms in his mind he HAS to "control them".

And if you lived in the Chi metro area and have seen some of his press conferences, or read about them over the years, you'd see that he is 100% psychotic. 'Guns' set him off like a lit match to a stick of Dynamite. But anything, or anyone that challenges 'his power' sets him off. The guy is moonbat nuts. 'Guns' are just the easiest way he can exercise his POWER over 'everyone'. And I mean everyone. He has his toadies in the IL Gen Assembly trying to do it to all of IL.

And the 'funny thing' is that his dad, the REAL Mayor Daley, had one heck of a Handgun Collection. So its not like he's never seen one or handled one. And at his 'Summer House' in Michigan he 'had' at least one personally owned shotgun. His son got in trouble years back for shooting it on the property. That story disappeared pretty quick.

The local population should be up in arms(excuse the term), but there is a element that keeps people convinced that the justice system exist to keep people in their place.

Word is he was later removed from the bench for cocaine trafficking.
