Police in Southern California say officers shot and killed a 15-year-old suspected of driving a stolen vehicle.
Bakersfield police began pursuing the 2001 Acura around 9:20 p.m. Friday. They say the driver stopped, but then backed into a patrol car after being approached by two officers.
The officers opened fire multiple times, striking the teen. Police say he was pronounced dead at Kern Medical Center.

Unfortunate...but the cops have the right to protect themselves from harm.Hopefully the incident was captured on one or more police dash cams.

He wasn’t driving it real well. The 25-year old must have been giving lessons..
Just consider it a “loaner car”. Kind of like “undocumented workers”.

For sure, after he attempted to assault them with a deadly weapon, his car!
He deserved it, and I have absolutely no tears for this criminal, or the family that raised him.

Need more details...
Were the officers IN the car that backed into?
Was the backing up a traffic maneuver or an aggressive act of assault against an occupied vehicle?
That should do it...

He was either driving or he wasn't. Welp, when police got to him, he wasn't doing much of anything I suspect. Kinda just sitting there, ya know?

There going to want to pin him as the driver. Perhaps he was. If he was not, it will be problematic for the cops.

Either great journalism or police work. /sarc off

My dad always told me not to inolve myself in risky behavior. The outcome aint always what we want....but if caught in risky behavior, stop if the police catch you. Say yes sir. Make no threatening gestures of sudden movements.
And if you think you will be arrested when caught (of even if not sure), remain silent.
That said, always traggic when a young boy dies like this.

If he wasn’t driving, he might just as well be a hitchhiker they picked up. You can’t determine that he was a criminal.

I know what you meant and so-o-o .. I'll fix it for you:
California police fatally shoot 15-year-old suspected of driving a stolen vehicle.
California police fatally shoot 15-year-old suspected of driving, what was suspected as being a stolen vehicle.

“officers shot and killed a 15-year-old suspected of driving a stolen vehicle.”
What JSteff was getting at is that the above sentence should have been written like this.....
“officers shot and killed a 15-year old driving a suspected stolen vehicle.”
The kid was definitely the driver and he backed into the officers’ car as they were approaching the stolen vehicle to engage the folks in it.

Were the officers IN the car that backed into? Was the backing up a traffic maneuver or an aggressive act of assault against an occupied vehicle? I don't think it necessarily matters. If anyone, police or civilian, was in *or* near the cop car then a reasonable fear of serious injury/death exists. The nature of the backing up maneuver would be noteworthy if it was type of thing you or I would do trying to get out of a parking space, however. That's why I suggested earlier that it would be helpful if the incident was caught on a police dash cam.
