Two Suburbs, Two Views of Obama
National Journal ^ | July 10, 2010 | Ronald Brownstein

-- In this comfortable white-collar suburb southeast of Denver, the struggling economy is like a storm cloud on the horizon: menacing but still distant. A few miles away, in blue-collar Littleton, the downturn is more like a gale at the door. Yet both places share a volatile anxiety over the nation's direction that looms over the November election.

On July 4, 2008, I visited these two communities and found them starkly divided over the presidential race. White working-class voters in Littleton expressed doubts about Barack Obama's priorities, experience, and even loyalty, while Centennial's college-educated professionals were enthusiastic about his candidacy.

I spent about a week in that area near Littleton. It did not seem super lib to me. My guess a lot of people with jobs or those who had jobs plus mortgages they are paying or trying to pay.

I bet their lives were MUCH better when Bush was President.

Boulder, Durango and seedier parts of Denver probably still have “true believers.”

I wish all those that voted for him went through hardship for a little while.

Agreed. Especially those employed non-minority men who, despite the bullseye on their backs, became so enraptured with the "hope 'n change" rhetoric and were so pleased with themselves for voting for the county's first non-white (i.e., mulatto, not black) president, they failed to learn of the history and to understand the stated objectives of BO.

Both Ronny Brownstein and the Journal are far left frauds and liars.
I visit both locations for work and I realize this article is pure propaganda.

I’ve wondered about that - the 2008 situation, that is. Recall the Kanjorski interview on CSpan? There’s been no investigation. Now why would that be?

I* live 35 miles NW of Austin. My zero voting neighbor had a “Texans for Obozo” on her Prius. It is gone and the “HOPE” sticker has been replaced with a “DOPE” sticker with the joker’s face. I was shocked to say the least.

Wait until Zero let’s the Bush tax cuts expire at the end of the year and the economy tanks—the Obama stickers will almost disappear entirely. Only union members and Zero-worshipping minorities will have them.

No one is hiring now because of uncertainly of obama’s healtcare garbage and the continued spending. If I had to hire someone, it damn sure wouldn’t be someone that helped put the clown in office. I would do my best to make sure that I never hired a democrat.

Well, I'm hiring. While my competitors are flailing, tearing their shirts, and gnashing their teeth, I'm investing in my business and growing. Yes, I'm careful and conserving cash more than I would in other circumstances, but I'm not participating in the recession. My company's sales increased 21% last year while my industry was down across the board. We're profitable. We just finished our best June in five years.

And while I tend to think democrats are irrational, political party does not come into play when hiring someone. I want the best people I can afford, no matter what political party, school affiliation, pro football team preference, or other non-business related factors.

Attitude is really, REALLY important when running a business. You have to make up your mind to succeed in spite of economic, regulatory, and tax headwinds. I've got faith that I can be more nimble than the bureaucrats who want to destroy capitalism. I'll outlast them and we'll start to take our country back in November.

If some larger corporations appear to freeze in their tracks out of fear, it's probably because they're looking at options off-shore. It's a global economy today and capital will seek the best returns. Just watch as the drilling rigs in the Gulf of Mexico leave.

That all sounds good but in my area of the country there are a lot of folks just looking for easy discrimination lawsuits, disability fraud tickets out, etc. The majority of those folks would be democrats. Yeah, I know some republicans play that game too but the majority would be democrats.

Unions invest more time finding ways to get out of work than they do working. They’re far more interested in what they can take from the company than what they can offer the business. My guess is most of these folks would call themselves democrats.

My business increased sales 23% last year. We’ll do better this year.

And no, my opinion isn’t about race. I would vote for Thomas Sowell or Clarence Thomas for president before I would most of the republican names I am hearing being thrown around.

Most democrats are either disillusioned or want to play the blame game. I don’t want that mindset or attitude working with me.

I’m an engineer too (EE), and I know about the work load, but people like your husband and I are PRODUCING something. I’m ranting about college “professors” like Bill Ayers or Angela Davis, who corrupt young minds, teach nothing but despair, grade papers based on their “feelings”, and then whine about the evils of our society while pulling down six figure salaries. A lot of one’s political leanings depends on how you make your money.

I would crawl over broken glass to vote for either Sowell or Thomas.

You're right about the attitude. If we interview someone and do background due diligence and catch a whiff of that attitude, we're not hiring that person. It's happened. There's been more than once when we were ready to hire someone until we read his/her social media page.

Got it. Good thing you two like your jobs. Now if he could just get a raise. ,-) Last year no raise but they changed his job title to “scientist” and gave him new business cards. Our grandkids really liked that, now say their Grandfather is a scientist. If they would just stop challenging their teachers with “I'll get back to you on that after I check with my scientist”.

I know what you mean. I saw it myself this morning. To be fair, that’s not math. That’s a comparison.

It was a quick typo on the way to church. Should be 44 and 56.

No one questioned his patriotism? What do these people have between their ears, macaroni or spaghetti?
