A man who violently shook his toddler and then threw the girl in front of a moving car was arrested by an off-duty Oakland police officer who witnessed the incident and hailed a citizen's vehicle to help chase him down, police said today.

A moment of rage... (defense’s first thought)
I doubt this guy will get much time, since the girls wasn’t seriously injured. Look, what I think he should get, and what generally takes place these days are two different things.
I can’t believe the child wasn’t killed. Thank God she wasn’t.
This guy is mental. My take on it is that he is going to be found seriously disturbed, needing to be housed in a mental health facility.
His spouse, if there is one, should have protected this child against this guy. Perhaps he didn’t exhibit before this, but that’s where my thoughts run.
It’s a sick, ghastly, horrible incident, and your heart just breaks for that little girl. Prayers not only for a full recovery, but also for placement in a loving, stable home where she can thrive and flourish.
There was one nice line in the otherwise horrifying tale:
“The officer used his weapon and pistol-whipped the suspect, authorities said.”
Lets say we are a jury of his peers. If you would rather have seen the officer use the cheaper bullet (considering the future gene pool of America) than a more expensive Taser cartridge please raise your hand now. Psst no one can see you.
It’s unfathomable to do this to a child—no less one’s own.
Plain evil no matter what the reason or illogic.
Tie him up to the back of a squad car and take him for a ride
They could have sold raffle tickets for who got to tase him.
Throw it open to a wide enough bidding pool, and the little girl’s future college ed would be paid for.
Kudos to the quick-thinking police officer.
So why was no information released on the guy??
<The officer used his weapon and pistol-whipped the suspect, authorities said.
There’s always a silver lining, isn’t there?
Watch out. The cop haters will soon be here to protest this horrible violation of his civil rights.
Maybe I’m reading too much into it (I probably am) but this imagine flashed into my man. There is this very outraged cop who loves kids. And he says to himself, “I could shoot this guy, but you know what? I’d rather pound him over the head with the butt of my revolver.”
Too bad this officer didn't make the same mistake the guy who accidentally shot the kid in Oakland
Probably just another Amish thug.
A vanity comment, which I’ll not make again.
While we don’t have children (married late after divorces, and I’ll not risk her), I was the oldest of five, the 60’s weren’t all that great to us, I was the elder, and I so spent a good deal of time with screaming babies and all that sort of stuff.
The eldest and male, you got those sorts of assignments in the old days.
That said, I can’t imagine anybody doing this sort of crap to any child, much less their own. I just can’t.
That was a wonderful ‘vanity’ post; I enjoyed every word. I must say I came away from the story with a new respect for law officers. They have to act professionally even when they just want to kill the perp. This one sent the guy to the hospital, but the story doesn’t indicate the injuries were critical or life threatening. I think the cop showed great restraint.
Put him in any prison yard with a hundred other prisoners and tell the guards to turn their backs.
George Bush’s fault.
Ron Dellums’ fault.
You’re reading too much into this. The guy is probably mentally ill, if not, then he is just pure evil.
happily draw and quarter this bag of sh!t
“So why was no information released on the guy??”
Do you even need pose the question?
Life is very cheap in some sections of Oakland.
While on the actual thread, go to the "view" and then "source code" from your browser. There you will see then entire html code.
was entered twice at the start of that paragraph and prior to that on line 102. Though that should have just added lines but it's a thought.
I was the oldest out of 4 and my youngest sister was 11 years younger than me and my mom worked. Guess what my job was when I got home from school?
Name not released=Amish!
Sometimes weird stuff happens here. Occasionally it will turn my entire posting into a ‘spell check’ correction. I just cancel that out an dgo ahead.
If I do run a spell check it will then add the html formatting. I use that as a easy to make links etc.
hmmmmmmm...no name mentioned, guess we can eliminate Sven Ericsson.
You won’t see the Oakland “community” demonstratin’ against this piece of human debris!!
Horse puckey. If this perp gets convicted they’ll riot in the streets for no reason, probably.
“I wonder if this is one of those cases where the adult believes that the kid will go to heaven if they die before they reach the age of accountability, which is taught in some christian circles, and in other christian circles it is just assumed even though it isn’t officially taught. It’s that age old question most pastors don’t want to deal with in reality and that is: Do babies go to heaven or hell if they die early in life? “
That is a pretty strange musing, IMO.
Are you saying that if we believed children were hellbound, we wouldn’t kill them?
Are you saying that if we didn’t believe there is a hell, we’d kill them more? Or less?
I sincerely doubt the salvation of a child was anywhere on this man’s mind.
just the run of the mill registered Democrat.
I got a rope, I got a tree, all we need is this scumbag to swing from that tree with rope around his neck !
What I'm trying to say is this man might of thought that if he killed the baby it would guarantee the baby would goto heaven, but if he let the kid grow up there would be no guarantee that the baby as a grown up would accept Jesus Christ into his heart.
Remember the women that drown her kids in the bath tub, they supposedly were devout Christians, and many people believe she did it to guarantee her kids would go to heaven, now if it was the case the main stream media would never report something like this and wisely so, because if they did they could cause other people to kill there kids if they thought that killing their kids would guarantee there babies would go to heaven. Now if you ask your average person on the street, if they believed babies would go to heaven if they die an early death(no matter what the cause) you would find most people believe the baby would go to heaven. But most people would wisely never kill their babies or kids because they know that is really really wrong. Now just to be sure you don't get me wrong, I don't believe in killing babies and I don't believe babies go to heaven if they die no matter what the cause of their death. Just so you don't get me wrong again, I am a Christian, theologically I am a Calvinist, now that doesn't need to be really stated in this conversation, but I thought I also needed to throw that out there for you and others who might be reading this to know where I'm coming from. Never the less though there are some Calvinist that believe babies will goto heaven if they die an early death. The subject has been debated on Free Republic several times back in the past when certain rules didn't exist a long time ago on FR.
On the other hand, it would suck if the guy who got pistol-whipped just looks like the guy who threw the kid under the car.
In either case, God Bless the cop, the driver of the chase car, and that poor little girl.
'Where upon they shook the man and threw him into traffic', would also be fitting.
I agree, thank God! And thankful there was a cop just happening by.
His spouse, if there is one, should have protected this child against this guy.
She should now. If only it worked that well, they often don't know (but may suspect) because the dad or boyfriend is 'caring' for the child while she works, or she's abused, too.
We should put bars around Oakland and call it a zoo.
