Sarah Palin likes government too
CNN ^ | July 12, 2010 | Julian E. Zelizer

(CNN) -- During a speech at an event called "Freedom Fest," former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin warned Tea Party activists that while government spending was a bad thing, conservatives should not go too far and start calling for reductions in the military budget.

While Palin told the crowd in Norfolk, Virginia, "Something has to be done urgently to stop the out-of-control Obama-Reid-Pelosi spending machine," she also told them, "We must make sure, however, that we do nothing to undermine the effectiveness of our military."

Palin's speech touched on a historic problem for the conservative movement. Ever since conservatives embraced a hawkish stance toward national security policy in the early Cold War in the late 1940s and started to challenge Democrats for not being tough enough, national security has always been the poison pill for anti-government conservatism.

Despite all their rhetoric about the dangers of government intervention and the virtues of private markets, conservatives have rather consistently supported an expansion of the government when it comes to national security.

What a dumb effing article.

There is obviously no contradiction between supporting spending on constitutionally appropriate endeavors and disapproving of spending on areas in which the federal government should have no role.

This is the exact kind of analysis that makes CNN readers/viewers so boneheadedly stupid.

Rick Sanchez is their Moe.

The real question regarding Palin, and any GOP candidate for that matter, is whether she believes in preemptive war and the neoconservative philosophy.

As part of that debate, I would like to know whether she favors Kristol or Coulter on the issue of Obama’s War in Afghanistan.

Exactly right. In her reference to the military, Palin is supporting expenditures for the one of the few things the federal government actually does have a mandate to do.

All the faulty outlandish spending these days, and the most important way to cut, of course CNN sees it as the military.

Whenever you hear leftists talk about issues, notice how they always conflate legitimate issues with their illegitimate ones to try to get you to accept them?

“Oh, you don’t like welfare, huh? I suppose you’re against roads, police and fire protection too!”

Agree. This is the liberal press trying to run a headline that makes people question her as a leader of the conservatives.

Julian Zelwinger, or whatever her name is, obviously has been hired from the intern-pool at CNN. Someone needs to inform this young lady who is purporting to be a "journalist" at a fake news outlet called CNN that the CONSTITUTION of the United States requires the federal government to provide a defense of the borders and against enemies.

MY guess is that Ms. Zelwinger, or whatever her name is, has never even HEARD of the Federalist Papers, let alone READ them.

These liberals prove they are morons every single freakin' day.

“That is not a problem. Military defense is within the scope of the Constituion.”

Spot on. But Lets see how many Freepers don't read beyond the CNN headline and respond with a stupid knee-jerk comment.

Do they not understand that the national defense is a right given to the federal government by the founders, while nearly all social programs funded by today’s fed are not?

Sigh. There is there any hope for a return to constitutionality when we have an ignorant populace fed misinformation by a dubious, but equally ignorant, press?

Well, I like government...in its place. The closer to its place, the better.

The left wants NO GOVERNMENT or total goverment..
Its all very simple to them..

Democracys are ALWAYS Oligarchy's.. or variations (fascism monarchy or socialism)

Democracy is a LIE.. and democrats lie to themselves..
Democracy is MOB Rule by mobsters.. ALWAYS..

Democracy is a BAD WORD with BAD RESULTS...
Socialism is a symptom of the political disease of democracy..

Pushing gays in the military is going to ‘undermine’ our effectiveness, IMO.

On further reflection, perhaps they should form their own brigades, etc, & all dress in PINK.
