Auto Insider: Green Nirvana Is Not Gonna Happen (Why Green Mandates and Subsidies won't work)
National Review ^ | 07/12/2010 | Henry Payne

Posted on 07/12/2010 8:39:29 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Auto-industry bigwigs these days are either on government welfare (GM’s Whitacre, Chrysler’s Marchionne) or are former green activists (Ford’s Bill Ford). But outside the boardroom, industry experts fear Washington green mandates foisted on them by pols who wouldn’t know a connecting rod from a valve stem. In a business world where Big Auto and Big Government are increasingly indistinguishable, however, few can speak out.

An exception is longtime Detroit insider Peter De Lorenzo. As electric-carmaker Tesla’s stock plummeted this week after its government-financed IPO, he unloaded on his blog:

The suspension of all rational thought in defense of a Green Nirvana that is simply notgonnahappen.com is just plain ludicrous and further proof that (Washington’s) pap “finger-snap” solutions for this nation’s energy future are not only misinformed and flat-out pathetic, but if we allow our energy future to be hijacked by their woefully misguided ideas and ideals we’ll be living in a third-world country in no time.

The blind embracing of Tesla — again, that glorified kit car company that hasn’t produced even a whiff of profit or demonstrated even the remotest suggestion of being able to bring a mainstream electric sedan to market — is Egregious Example No. 1 and proof-positive that the Green Horde will suspend all vestiges of reality in order to shove their view of a transportation future down the rest of this nation’s throat, even if the infrastructure doesn’t exist to support it now — not to mention that the funds to even begin paying for it are nowhere to be found on the horizon.

This is EXACTLY the problem with govenrment being involved with business at the level they have become accustomed to. You can change Big Auto to any industry and the theory is the same. Scientific research, finance, agriculture...anything.

But green-subsidies work in Bizzarro Obama-land!! Where Amtrak runs on time, GLBT couples raise low-carbon footprint kids, and fat, lazy SEIU administrators provide the best, most friendly health-care ever....

Why shouldn’t it therefore work in the real world???

It doesn't matter how reasoned any argument is against the green propaganda and global warming scam, it will continue to roll on because you can't stop communism unless people start to die.

The USSR was different, the West starved them out(thank you RR). How are you going to starve out members of this great(in size) movement on this side of the wall? You can't. They are too powerful.

How it works.

In Michigan the state legislature mandates annual production cuts on coal and gas fired plants. Next they deny permits for clean coal fired plants claiming a lack of demand. Then they turn around and approve permits for wind farms despite the lack of demand that prevents coal fired plants.

On top of that, wind farm developers want the other companies that provide electricity to pay the fines that will be imposed on the wind farms when the wind isn’t blowing.

Its all designed to exterminate the energy sector that actually works.

The allure of communism (Everything will be provided to you) is greater than the allure of capitalism (you have to work for what you earn). The argument that is being made these days by by the Left is strictly an emotional one. Rational thought and emotional thought often conflict. What Reagan was great at was making heartfelt, emotionally stirring arguments that were based on rationality. We need that today more than ever.

The communist-controlled education system has done its job well. The last several generations have little knowledge of history or economics, but they can sure tell you which movie stars are shacked up.

Green = Communism. Communism has never worked, but that doesn’t stop the left from turning to it every chance they get.

There’s no problem here that cannot be solved by a judicious application of firearms.

Here’s my question of the day:

Just exactly WHERE is the grid of transmission lines for the solar farms & wind farms & Geothermal energy that Harry Reid is touting he is responsible for building?

Solar farm in extreme southern Nevada-—
Geothermal wells being drilled along I-80 in N Nevada in rural areas.
Wind farms in other parts of the country & proposed for here in Nevada.

These then are ISOLATED structures in remote areas.

HOW does that power get transmitted to uour homes & businesses???

The current ‘transmission lines grids’ are owned by the current electricy suppliers-—& they built & paid for those poles—towers—lines.

Last I heard, EPA & other Enviro groups are refusing to let contracts for new transmission lines.

This sounds more & more like another great big boondoggle.

Investments in ‘clean powers sources’ are useless unless that power gets to the recipient.
