Tensions remained high in Northern Ireland after a wave of sectarian violence and republican protests during the Ulster loyalist marching season.
Sinn Féin and the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) blamed republican dissidents for orchestrating trouble in north and west Belfast in which three police officers were shot and 24 others also injured.
In west Belfast, two armed and masked men also hijacked a bus this afternoon and forced its driver to drive to the local PSNI station in Woodburn.
The men said they had left an explosive device on the bus, which the driver was forced to abandon at the station. The area around the station was sealed off while the army dealt with the device.
One PSNI officer remains in hospital with gunshot wounds to his arm. He was one of three officers hurt last night when a masked man opened fire on police lines with a shotgun in North Queen Street, which runs from the nationalist New Lodge area to loyalist Tigers Bay. The PSNI was trying to prevent clashes between nationalist and loyalist youths. Police in riot gear were pelted with petrol bombs, bricks and bottles.
There was also violence in Broadway, which links the republican Falls Road to the M1, after PSNI patrols blocked one end to prevent republicans attacking homes in the loyalist Village area. Up to 200 rioters attacked the police, who deployed water cannon.
Seven civilians, including two children, were also injured in the Village after a car hit a crowd by a bonfire. The local Ulster Unionist councillor Bobby Stoker said he believed the car had been deliberately driven at residents.

Police in riot gear come under attack from nationalist youths in west Belfast.
I thought those battles were long over and people got along.
Bush put a to[p to this crap and these IRA terrorists when he stopped giving them a visa to come here and get money plus he stopped their fund raising money for their terrorists ways/
Npow obama is in it is no coincidence that these IRA terrorists with their Marixst views start up again while they have a friend in their white house
under order from the terrorists again in order to move weapons and money .
now thye have a friend in the white house this crap and more terrorists will start up again and no doubt their money laundering over here will be set up again
Sporadic trouble broke out in parts of Northern Ireland as Protestant Orangemen staged their annual parades. On the eve of the marches, three police officers were shot during rioting. The Twelfth of July is the annual high-point of the loyal orders' parading calendar. Crumlin Road protest Protesters sat on the road ahead of the march Some marches have been a source of tension between nationalists who see the parades as triumphalist and intimidating, and Orangemen who believe it is their right to walk on public roads.
disgusting, shooting police was not normal protesters but IRA terorrists.
this will only get worse with their marxist friend obama in power

How I wish Bush was still here instead of this terrorist lover far left loon
Did they just learn that Ted Kennedy died?
They’re supposed to wait until the next Celtic/Rangers match.
messed up when we have some murderers shooting police just because part of a population dies a march through part of their own country.
Thank goodness Bush closed down the murdering IRA marxist terrorist money thus closing down the murdering scum to nearly an extent,
Shame it seems there are still some terrorist left not wanting to give up their little thuggery and power in their poor council estate areas
or am i wrong???
iirc they are forbidden from marching in some areas
I’;ve lived over there and seen this first hand, the shootings, the bombings, the riots
there is areas which some prefer to call their areas but there in lies the problem.
lets reverse this and say blacks were marching through a white area.
Does 3 cops deserve to be shot?
would we be saying they should nto march through that area?
no we’d be saying that this is America and all of us have a right to go any where we want.
Also the parade routes have been changed in the past and it is not exactly in their so called areas.
also lets not forget the other side have their parades too through areas
bottom line is that 3 cops did not deserve to be shot.
these riots are called on by terrorists in order to have a riot , cause trouble but also flex some muscle in the area or maybe move guns, drugs etc while the polcie are busy.
trust me I know about that part a lot in places like Belfast, on the crumlin road, coalisland, newry, warrenpoint, crossmaglen etc etc etc
in this world you never know LOL
