Chavez Government Seizes 120 Tons of Food from Venezuela's Largest Company

CARACAS – Venezuela’s National Guard seized roughly 120 tons of merchandise Thursday from the country’s largest food company, the guard’s commander said.

The “preventive confiscation” came after authorities say they detected inconsistencies in reports from the Empresas Polar conglomerate about the content of several warehouses in the western city of Barquisimeto, Gen. Luis Bohorquez Soto told state television.

He said the guard seized more than 91 tons of wheat flower, 12 tons of butter, five tons of rice and more than 5,000 liters (1,320 gallons) of cooking oil, among other products.

The operation was part of President Hugo Chavez’s efforts “to protect the Venezuelan family” and avoid the phenomenon of empty shelves at grocery stores, the general said.

Venezuela suffers from periodic shortages of staples such as milk, wheat flour, beans and coffee. While the leftist Chavez government blames hoarding by merchants to drive up prices, business says the problem is lack of foreign currency to pay for imports.

Chavez imposed price controls on staple foods in 2003 as part of an effort to control inflation and Caracas continues to maintain currency controls.

Bohorquez said authorities are making a detailed inventory of the merchandise taken from Polar in preparation for delivering it to the state-run food-distribution network.

Polar is already in a legal battle with the government over the expropriation of company land to make room for low-income housing.

Founded some 70 years ago, Empresas Polar has 30 processing plants and its products are sold in more than 150,000 locations. The firm says it employs around 30,000 people and that its operations generate an additional 180,000 jobs in supply, distribution and support services.

There is a lack of foreign currency to pay for imports because nobody wants to invest in Venezuela with Chavez in power.

Who is a worse for their own country, Obama or Chavez?
Why?

Obama is worse

We have far more to lose.

No other country can step in and save the world, as we have so many times before.

To control rising prices, Socialists sieze supply.

This could never happen under 0bamaCare.

I certainly hope for Chavez’s sake that his security apparatus is better than his economic sense, because when there are no more private businesses to raid the people are going to get quite unruly.

When an employee doesn’t produce, you eventually fire him, yet leftist dictators make themselves immune to this early on. Like a cancerous tumor, they suck resources, produce nothing good, and are difficult to remove. What is it going to take for Venezuelans to get this Marxist buffoon Hugo Chavez out of office?

They’ll be starving soon, and then there will be the pictures of poor starving venezuelans. Sean Penn will probably organize a telethon to “help” them. Let ‘em starve, if they’re stupid enough to allow themselves to be victimized they deserve it. So does this country if it gets to that point, and we do nothing.

Let us remember that Chavez is far, far more clever (albeit typical leftist stupid) than the Obamaloon.

So goes Venezuela, so goes the US.

Is there a plan to establish government distribution centers in areas Michelle Obama now calls “food deserts”, and if so could they be stocked with “seizures” from food producers here?

Why would Venezuela vote him out? He is doing *EXACTLY* what the majority of Venezuelans voted him to do.

Rob Peter to give to Paul.

Democracy is no better than a dictatorship when the masses learn that they can simply *VOTE* for their freebies.

Which is why we need to fight and struggle to keep our Republic, the only form of government that ensures that there cannot be a ‘dictatorship of the proletariat’.

I watched a documentary on the obese on TV today. They came to the conclusion that people are obese because they are exposed to too much food. Also a lack of excersise. The said it is a global problem. At the end of the program they said we may have to have mandates placed on food and excersise. In other words be forced to eat right and excersise. I kid you not.
