Posted on 07/12/2010 11:10:01 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet
Progressives have launched the left's version of the Tea Party movement.
Dubbed "One Nation," it's a grassroots coalition of 170 liberal and civil rights groups that organizers hope will help the progressive cause regain its voice two years after the election of Barack Obama and "counter the Tea Party narrative," The Washington Post reported.
"Having been confronted with the specter of the Tea Party . . . we felt it urgent to organize the majority of this country, which voted in 2008 and has gone back to the couch," said Benjamin Jealous, president of the NAACP, one of the movement's members. "We've been split off in different directions."
Among the groups involved are the National Council of La Raza, the Service Employees International Union, the NAACP, the AFL-CIO, and the United States Student Association.
As its first major goal, One Nation is planning a march in Washington Oct. 2 that will push for progressive ideals including more government spending on job creation. The march will "demonstrate to Congress that these agenda items have support across multiple demographics," said Jealous (pictured, left, with SEIU Local 1199 President George Gresham).
The coalition came together out of political necessity, Paul Starr, a professor of public affairs at Princeton University, told the Post.
Liberal leaders see "much of the progressive agenda at risk in this election," said Starr, who also edits the American Prospect, a liberal magazine. "There is no choice but for these groups to get together. The historical pattern is that voter turnout falls disproportionately among minorities and young people at these midterm elections, so they are fighting a historical trend."

Union circle jerk version 2.
Gee, they are going to march in favor of failed policies.....yeah, that will go over real well and win the election for them......One Nation, under communism, with poverty and oppression for all.
Looks like ACORN finally settled on a new name...
I think a majority of the people that voted for Obama or 2008 as the article says are not on their couch but are in the Tea Party. many people voted for change and hope and did not know what that meant they do now and they do not like it.
See any Obama bumperstickers or t-shirts anymore? LOL
I do....vets for obama.....women for obama....old white guy for obama. Yes I live in CA but dang! They are nucking futz!
Actually I do still see them as a matter of fact I saw one on Friday at the Post Office and it was on a Mercedes. For the life of me I cant understand why people with money would vote for that bum dont they know he wants to take everything they have not to mention everything I have
2000 : (ZACK EXLEY LAUNCHES GWBUSH.COM--- See MOVEON.ORG, AFL-CIO) A computer programmer and Web designer by trade, Exley had gained national attention during the 2000 campaign when he launched GWBush.com, a Web site featuring doctored photographs portraying candidate Bush as a dope fiend. Exley was a hardened activist of the extreme Left. Trained by the AFL-CIO, he had worked as an undercover union organizer for five years, and also done a stint training activists for the Ruckus Society, an anarchist group whose violent tactics first caught the public eye during the 1999 riots against the World Trade Organization meeting in Seattle. Exley brought a ruthless edge to MoveOns fundraising and propaganda drives which soon aroused the admiration of mainstream Democrats. ---------- ?"The Shadow Party: Part II," Front Page Magazine.com ^ | October 7, 2004 | David Horowitz and Richard Poe?
My Mercedes only cost me $100, and I’d rather see it in a ditch than with an Obama sticker on it.

I seem to remember thisfrom some other national socialist group
Ask the La Raza people, what they mean by ‘One Nation’. Either they lie, or they’re bad in math.
Wasn’t it “Ein Reich, Ein Volk, Ein Fuhrer”?
Not this group — just a similar sounding name?

I am pretty sure one nation was part of it.
Probably just another sound alike...
Note: The above bill is the bill Kucinich is referring to.

In other words, the very opposite of "grassroots."

It appears that “coffee” didn’t catch on...
“National Council of La Raza, the Service Employees International Union, the NAACP, the AFL-CIO, and the United States Student Association. “
let’s not forget ACORN.....ALL Obama’s Army.

I wonder how much of OUR tax $$$ is going to organize Progressive’s ‘One Nation’
Without the blind enthusiasm, bush-hate, and novel oratory flim-flam that went with the 2008 elections, I don’t believe all these different groups can get along with each other long enough to be effective.
But you’re right in that money will play a factor and it’s gonna start seeping in - along with the usual demorat red-herrings and floated “news” that MSM will happily do drivebys with.
But I’m willing to bet any public gatherings of this “grassroots” effort will be in sharp contrast to the simple, focused, patriotic Tea party affairs. Cue the loons from Code Pink..... OK bring on the New Black Panthers... Come on all you pot legalizers - try to keep up. Could be like Mardi Gras.
This should be a real yawn. Let them try. It will be like watching paint dry.
If they’ll just have their meetings under the big top they can make a few bucks selling tickets to the freak show.
Small nit: You have them slightly out of order. The slogan was:
“Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Fuehrer.”
Yea, pretty much.
The thing that they don’t seem to “get” is that they’ll never reproduce the energy of the “Tea Party” movement with a top-down, organized-by-diktat organization.
The other thing they’re not “getting” is that one of the reasons that the “grassroots” of the left aren’t going to get fired up like they did in 2008 is that The Oneness hasn’t delivered jack-all for them. Sure, he signed a healthcare bill... that even the liberals are starting to loath. Gitmo is still open, we’re still in Iraq, etc.
From their perspective, Obama’s administration has been a huge disappointment. As a result, they’re just not going to get all that fired up...
A Hippie Circus just before the election....priceless.
Not exactly priceless. It will cost the taxpayers plenty for extra police and a massive trash removal operation afterwards.
I seem to remember this from some other national socialist group..."
This what you're looking for? It is pretty close.
so the professional protestors are going to try to fake like they are a “spontaneous” movement?
You are assuming anyone will come.
Kos Koffee Klatch, take two.
This will only further divide the nation, another strategy coming from the puppetmasters of Obama.
A divided weakened America is how it will fall.
For all of the chest heaving that the NAACP with Michelle Obamas prodding they will never be as large and organized as the Tea Party, they will be constantly fighting each other, let them try, but it will fail.
They may have to do what King Obama did for his Berlin worshipfest. Sign up some rock bands and provide an ocean of free beer, and the faithful will show up.
I wish there was truth in politics/advertising, and they would be forced to stop using the “Democratic” party name, the word “progressive” and would have to call themselves what they are, “Marxist” “Elitist” “Communist” “Snobs” “Lawyers”
Somebody needs to have a serious sit down talk with Jimmy Buffet. There is ZERO reason for him to keep backing Obama and Marxists. He seems like a good guy. He needs to stop.
Oxymoron alert!it's a grassroots coalition of 170 liberal and civil rights groups
My sentiment exactly - any "coalition of 170 liberal and civil rights groups" is Astroturf.
