Survey Ranks Obama 15th Best President, Bush Among Worst
US News and World Report ^ | July 2, 2010 | Mallie Jane Kim

President Obama ranks 15th out of 44 in a poll of the best and worst presidents while former President George W. Bush earns a place in the bottom five, according to the Siena College Research Institute's recent survey of 238 presidential scholars released Thursday.

Obama secured a top ten place in two skill set categories, communication ability (7th) and ability to compromise (10th), and in two personality trait categories, imagination (6th) and intelligence (8th). Background, described as family, education, and experience, proved his lowest score at 32nd.

This is the 5th time the institute has conducted the survey of U.S. presidents, which is done a year after a new president takes office. The inaugural survey in 1982 ranked then-President Ronald Reagan at 16th. "Obviously, there's not great validity to it since they've only been in office for one year," says the survey's co-director and statistician Douglas Lonnstrom. "But it's a benchmark for us to see how they move." [Take our poll: Who is the worst president?]

President tend to rank around 20th while they are in office, and Obama is no exception. His actions over the next few years will decide if he stays roughly the same like Reagan—who moved from 16th to 20th, 22nd, 16th again, and finally to 18th this year—or like Bush, who fell a dramatic 16 slots in the first poll after he left office, from 23rd to 39th.

but the study fails to point out that among those surveyed, 90% could not name more than 3 presidents.

Remember those who voted in this survey have been professional students all their lives. From kinder garden, to elementary school, to middle school, to high school, to college, to graduate studies, to tenured positions they have NEVER worked where they have to show a profit.

Worse, they have never had to write the ultimate check - “To the United Sates of America, payable on demand, all of my futures” by serving in the combat arms.

The President Bushs wrote that check - Bush 41 damn near had to sign that check during the closing year of World War 2; Bush 43 wrote a smaller check every time he went out on an intercept in the F-102 as part of the TANG. The kill rate for F-102 pilots wasn't a low number.

If you want to criticize a man I have no problem with that act if you have personal experience to base your criticisms upon.

No serving college professor has ever had risk their lives or commit the lives of their students to real live mortal combat. yet, they feel highly qualified to criticize those who have to.

Remember, it is not the college professor (profession student) that keeps this nation safe - it is the grunt, frequently a high school/junior college graduate, who does. When in trouble or doubt who to thank for your freedoms always choose the lowest ranking grunt over the most highly acclaimed and tenured professor!

And my polling says US News and World Report is the worst news magazine. So why would their presidential poll be of any value. Other than recycled paper.

I’m still laughing at this.

Fifteenth, huh? Jeez, I had him rated sixteenth.

Um, there were only 16 presidents, right?

And 57 states?

‘Liberal Bias’ Cited in Professors Ranking Bush a Failure

###

Excerpt:

“The fact that more professors, percentage-wise, disapprove of Bush than does the general population is because of the professors’ political views, Lonnstrom said. “The people who go into these fields, in other words become a history professor or political science professor, probably are somewhat more liberal than the population as a whole,” he said.”

I am reading a book called “Heaven on Earth, the Rise and Fall of Socialism” and so many things jump out at me compared to the situation we are in today.

One is that during the different socialist or communist movements (or even takeovers) in history, the intellectuals who were part of these movements were “oh so smart”. But a historical perspective shows them for what they are unrealistic, dangerous, corrupt and lacking an understanding of the nature of mankind and what makes them tick (and what makes societies floursih).

I hope the same will be true with Obama.

Well, one can hope, anyway.

“US Screwed up News Reports” was, at one time (a VERY long ago) a relatively non-biased news magazine. Then it had a “management change” and turned into just another socialist mouthpiece like Time and Newspeak.

Obama has yet to pass a single major piece of legislation with more than 1 or 2 republican votes. Most of the time, he is working to secure the votes of his own party.

How that gets him HIGH ranking in the category of “compromise”, I cannot fathom. Of all the things Obama is not, a compromiser is one of them. (Other than a compromiser of the truth, that is).

I would put Bush in the top ten and Obama in the bottom ten.

Bush was a good man. These rankings are like junior high popularity contests -- ughh!
