Rev. Al Sharpton: Rush Limbaugh's Comments On Steinbrenner Were "Repugnant"
NY Daily News ^ | 7/13/10 | Celeste Katz

The Rev. Al Sharpton did not particularly care for the (your adjective here) comments about late Yankees owner George Steinbrenner by Rush Limbaugh, which I blogged here earlier in the day:

"The statements made by Rush Limbaugh about George Steinbrenner were repugnant and offensive whether they were intended to be facetious or tongue and cheek. The fact that he could make these comments less than 24-hours after Mr. Steinbrenner's death makes it even more offensive. For the last 20-years I have known George Steinbrenner and we have quarrelled over diversity and community programs but I always found him fair, direct, and genuinely prone to do what he felt was right. He generated a lot of money for a lot of players as well as for baseball as a whole and should not be disparaged in any matter. In later years, in a twist of irony, his granddaughter and my daughter became close, which only brought me closer to knowing him and we developed a mutual respect. Mr. Limbaugh and his broadcasters owe his family an apology that the first day of their mourning to have to be subjected to this type of rhetoric. To think that just a year ago Mr. Limbaugh sought to be an owner of an NFL team and has now said this about a legendary baseball team owner. This says more about Mr. Limbaugh than it does Mr. Steinbrenner."

Consider the cost of a ticket to a baseball game in 1980 vs. today, of a beer in 1980 vs. today, of a player 1980 vs. today.

Two people bear primary responsibility. One was Marvin Miller, the perp and first head of the MLBPA, the second died today. Over the years, they assured us that crazy spending would not affect the fan - advertising revenue would cover all the new, astronomic costs and salaries...right!

I have a lot of old ticket stubs - Baltimore Memorial Stadium Sept. 1990 Upper Box - $8.50. Wrigley 1993 Field Box $17. Metrodome in Minnehaha, 1997, VIP box - $19.

$20 million for a pitcher doesn’t affect the fan...right!

Say hi to the Swimmer, George.

Well of course the use of "cracker" is a transparent reference to the hypocrisy of the left re the New Black Chickenshit Party leader Al Wheezie Shabeezie.

Naturally the leftwing a-holes won't get it.

And I do believe that James LeBron chose the Heat to avoid millions of dollars of taxes.

Where's the fairness in the redistribution of LeBron’s wealth?

I have no link but I remember that one of the first times I ever heard of Sharpton growing up was when he was attacking the New York Yankees business with protests due to an interview by someone in the Yankees management. This was years and years ago. I think at least 15 years or more.

Someone from the Yankee orginization was being interviewed by the press and was asked about the broken down state of basketball courts that sat outside of Yankee stadium and he replied about how the neighborhood kids were continually breaking the hoops by ‘hanging on them like monkeys’.

Sharpton made a real big deal over this guys statement and Steinbrenner I guess gave in and fired the guy after a few days to a week.

There was no real evidence at all that the guy had any racist intent at all and his comment seemed to be just talking about real actions taken by kids regardless of what race they were. But Sharpton had of course his racist crusade to shake down businesses and make his political power play using race as his playcard.

Sharpton is a very sick man. Even if I see him now make even a little sense or seem even a little respectful I still remember where it is that he came from.

Sharpton is democrat party KKK scum.

Use the term “cracker” if you choose, but I prefer to be called a “peckerwood.”

There is no irony in his daughter being friends with Steinbrenner’s daughter. Follow the money.
