LV officer at Costco recorded in 911 call

Official says police shout at victim: 'Get on the ground'

A 911 call made by a Summerlin Costco employee captures police shouting orders to 39-year-old Erik Scott before the U.S. Military Academy graduate was shot and killed, according to Las Vegas police.

Capt. Patrick Neville said an employee was talking to dispatchers and was close enough to the scene on Saturday that a recording of the conversation caught an officer clearly yelling, "Get on the ground."

Police have refused to release the recording. Investigators hope to review store surveillance video, but Neville said he didn't know whether any video of the shooting existed.

No that is not what the witnesses have said they said he removed it from his waistband but it was still in a zipped holster. That is what I read yesterday in one of the articles posted.

Geez ... maybe us old white guys will have something to riot about.

I'm not sure that I know how. Do Grandmas riot? I suppose we could learn.

The COSTCO Legal team have it right now. They are trying to figure out how to play the fact that it was one of their employees who set off this tragedy.

40 - 12 = 28

Your mileage may vary.

We can BOYCOTT COSTCO UNTIL THE TAPES ARE RELEASED.

And I want to see WHAT EXACTLY SCOTT WAS DOING THAT WAS SOOO BAD AS TO CALL THE POLICE!!!

That employee had other options than just calling the police. Like go get another employee or the store manager to talk to him. CALLING THE POLICE IS NOT A FIRST OPTION.

Well... if he was told to drop it, wouldn’t he have to grab it with his hand so he could do so? Maybe he should have had a magic gun that he could drop on voice command. /s

“Investigators have interviewed more than 40 witnesses, including more than a dozen who said they saw Scott with the gun in his hand and out of his waistband, Neville said.”

That would make about 30 (more than 40 - more than a dozen) who said his hands were empty (or that they couldn’t see, in which case they aren’t really witnesses).

People see what they expect to see. If there is a police shooting, they expect to see the other guy with a gun. They do NOT expect to see the other guy with empty hands.

There is also NO WAY that they ‘don’t know if there is video’ by now. The video may be inconclusive (ie, it may not be possible to see Scott’s hands), but they know if there is video.

Anyone know if they found any drugs in Scott’s body? Or turn up any indication that Scott wanted to commit suicide by cop? The cops guns were already drawn, according to what I’ve read previously. There aren’t many who try to outdraw a drawn gun - although a drawn gun doesn’t prevent the bearer from being shot.

I think 2 things are obvious:

1 - The cops badly mishandled this. You do NOT try to take down an armed suspect in a crowd!

2 - If, heaven forbid, I ever shoot someone in self defense, I’ll be held to a higher standard of restraint and self-control than these cops demonstrated.

Hopefully, the widow will end up owning ALL of COSTCO.

One small difference. The Oakland cop killed a Black man.

These cops killed a White man[in my opinion, murdered]. This is what will keep them from being prosecuted. And it will probably help them be promoted.

Maybe there's a gubmint training program.

There are several threads on FR about this and statements by witnesses that are posted. This is what eyewitnesses have said.

Mr Scott was testing bottles to see if they'd fit his backpack. He was crouched on the floor. An employee saw his gun and said something. He said he was licensed to carry. While talking to him, another employee stood around the corner and called police saying he was waving his gun and acting erratically. That call ended in his death. The employees were upset that he was CCW. He was also with his girlfriend. They were buying things because she was moving in with him.

Must be a shortage of AlNiCo and they are waiting on a backorder.

He was at Costco buying items because his girlfriend was moving in with him. He was a graduate of West Point, a veteran and a CCW. He was also a top salesman for pacemakers and was popular because he talked to the patients themselves. His father is also a veteran and an author. All this was in earlier articles. This was not a drug user or a suicidal man. His girlfriend was a few feet away from him when he was shot.

If I don’t riot soon, I wont be able to, nor remember what a riot is, or where they have them at.

I have read a number of these threads, but that there were two employees and that the one who talked to him was NOT the one who called, well.... the one who called is an accessory to murder and should be charged as such. Her inflammatory statements and out right lies lead to that young man’s death.

The book should be thrown at her.

Well I've never been to a riot but I guess I could put it in my bucket list. After my nap.

I seem to recall a story covered here some years ago about some poor schlub who was shot in his car by a cop (don’t recall whether the guy died).

In that case, one cop was shouting at the guy to keep his hands on the wheel. The other cop was shouting at the guy to get out of his car. Only problem was, the guy had his seat belt on. He was a dead man no matter what he did, wasn’t he?
