A new poll shows Arizona Sen. John McCain widening his lead over his Republican challenger ahead of next month's GOP primary.

The Rocky Mountain Poll released Wednesday shows McCain leading former U.S. Rep. J.D. Hayworth 64 percent to 19 percent. Political newcomer Jim Deakin had 5 percent.

McCain's margin has widened from a 54 percent to 28 percent lead he held over Hayworth in the same poll in April.

The telephone poll was conducted by the Behavior Research Center between June 30 and July 11 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 5.4 percentage points. Pollsters surveyed a random sample of 334 registered Arizona voters, including 190 Republicans and 144 independents who said they would vote in the Republican primary.

It does work everywhere it’s implemented in accordance with Conservative principles.

” Conservatism would have won if Palin had stayed out of it. She came in the first month JD announced and placed a spiked heel right through his neck. He hasn’t been able to recover since. The poor Tea Party didn’t know what to do so they stayed out of it and JD hasn’t been able to raise much money since then. “

ONE FReeper who tells the gospel truth. Yet we have to suffer these McCain shills, and out of state FReepers who don’t know McCain has outspent Hayworth 12,500,000 to 550,000.

” Maybe Hayworth has a packaging problem, then. “

No, he has a money problem

” People who live near him like him. “

ALL of them?

I have to disagree. McCain has run to the right ever since he started campaigning. He has spent tens of millions of dollars to fool people into thinking that he is conservative. Hayworth was rising in the polls until McCain linked him to several anti-conservative positions (such as the free govt money infomercial).
I don’t think the problem is voters rejecting conservatism, I think the problem is that they have not educated themselves enough to know that McCain is a lying progressive scum bag rat.

McCain is making Conservative noises and it is working. I doubt his sincerity, but Arizona is eating it up.

This is what happens when a candidate runs negative ads 24/7 and the other candidate just sits on his money. Hayworth may as well quit and give the donations back, because he’s done nothing to win this.

I hate to say it, but it’s beginning to look like Hayworth’s been in it with McCain the whole time. This is looking more and more as though Hayworth is deliberately throwing this election to McCain.

BTW, that’s money you and I gave to help in the campaign against Obama. McCain had it “left over” so he spent it taking down JD.

That's why I gave $0.00 to McCain in 2008. I knew he'd use my own money against me.

7. Hayworth hasn’t spent any money for ads.

I lived in Arizona when the Rocky Mountain Poll had a two to one advantage for Terry Goddard for governor. He lost BIG. They never got a poll right while I lived there (25 years) - I think they are housed at ASU, that should answer any questions as to where their mines exist.

Those adds are expensive, and I’m sure he’s waiting until the last minute to air them. I hope he has funds left for this.

So you are saying that McCain’s conservative campaign is doomed to fail?

McCain has had weeks of saturation advertising, and no amount of last-minute advertising will overcome the now-latent bad impression the voters have of JD Hayworth. Negative advertising works.

AZ is not that expensive a buy, and I haven't seen any TV, or print, or signage. I haven't been listening to the radio, so I don't know if he's spending there, but I can't see any evidence of a campaign anywhere. None. It's as if McCain is running unopposed.

I think Sarah Palin feels the need to be loyal to McCain personally. I guess from what I have heard they have a good personal relationship. I wouldn’t support him in a million years based on who he is as a politician, but I think it is a matter of personal loyalty to Sarah Palin. she would get just as much flack if she had not supported him.

I could easily believe that McCain didn't tap Sarah to help him win the White House in 2008 , but to help him keep his Senate seat in Arizona in 2010.
