Mich. Gov: Electric Cars to Create 62, 000 Jobs July 14, 2010

Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm says the next generation of electric cars and their batteries will create 62,000 jobs in the state over the next decade.

Granholm made the prediction Wednesday, a day before President Barack Obama is scheduled to visit a groundbreaking ceremony for a battery plant outside Grand Rapids.

Granholm says the new jobs demonstrate the need for federal and state investment in private industry. She says the partnership with federal government is the key to manufacturing in the U.S.

The Alliance for American Manufacturing says more than 5 million manufacturing jobs have been lost in the U.S. since 2000, with Midwestern states hit particularly hard.

Obama has set a goal of putting 1 million plug-in hybrid vehicles on U.S. roads by 2015.

Who is going to build the extra electric generating capacity to recharge these vehicles? Think Solar? Think wind?

You’re gaseous.

No, silly. You just mount a windmill on the top of the car, and as it moves it turns the windmill which turns a generator which charges the battery which powers the electric motor which moves the car. Simple. /s

I live in Michigan, now I think I can honestly say that Jenny has finally “blown me away”!

I feel sorry for all the smart blondes out there, because she sure gives them a bad reputation.

They will have 62,000 government subsidized jobs to produce 100 battery powered cars per year that no one will buy but the government.

Desperate times call for "grasping at straws" statements such as this.

Dear Gov. Granholm,

I want to make sure that I understand what your saying. According to Michigan Live Michigan has lost over 315,000 jobs in 8 years. Your announcement of creating 62,000 jobs over 10 years is sill the hill you want to stand on at a time like this? You are touting the creation of 19% of the lost jobs over 10 year when 5 times that were lost in the last 8 years?

Seriously? Seriously?

Talk about aiming low.

Does Jennifer say how much it’s going to cost the other 49 States to buy them 62,000 jobs making electric cars?

She also insisted that she had invented the question mark and before her invention only periods were used which resulted in mass confusion.

Depreciation - Looming roadblock for electric cars

Snip: According to a report from the UK’s Glass Guide that Autocar picked up this week, a typical electric vehicle will retain only 10 percent of its value after five years of ownership, compared to gas and diesel-fueled counterparts retaining 25 percent of their value in that time period (h/t Autoguide).
