Paterson to Emcee Rangel's Birthday Bash
By Reid Pillifant
July 14, 2010 | 4:09 p.m
Charlie Rangel will celebrate his 80th birthday in style next month, with Aretha Franklin contributing vocals and local Democrats providing plenty of R-E-S-P-E-C-T.
The invitiation lists the attendees: both U.S. Senators, all three statewide electeds, all three citywide electeds, plus Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, and unnamed colleagues from the congressional delegation.
Of course, the outpouring of support--even for a congressman facing ethics charges--isn't terribly surprising, since they're almost all Democrats coming to pay tribute to a local legend. The one non-Democrat on the list: Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
So, who to pick as emcee? That honor apparently goes to Governor David Paterson, a fellow son of Harlem and longtime family friend.
The bash will take place at the Plaza Hotel on August 11, which is actually two months after the congressman's birthday. Rangel's birthday bash is a major date on the calendar for Democrats, and is usually held at Tavern on the Green. For obvious reasons, a new location has been made necessary.

And the RINO of RINOs.

But here's other evidence of his speaking at the event:

Charles Rangel and New York City Council members Charles Barron and Margarita Lopezwho have bucked their party to come out against the war. Barron has also introduced a Troops Out Now resolution in the City Council."--Workers World Party
