Obama's Maine Island Long Visited By Rich, Famous

Obama's Maine Vacation Destination Known As Summer Retreat For The Well-heeled And Well-known

BAR HARBOR, Maine (AP) - Serving as a summer retreat for Rockefellers, Vanderbilts and Morgans, this town and the surrounding area have long been known as a place where well-heeled and well-known visitors could beat the heat - and have their privacy respected.

President Barack Obama is the latest influential visitor to flee to Maine in search of a cool ocean breeze. When he arrives Friday for a three-day visit, he'll be the first sitting president to visit Mount Desert Island since William Howard Taft a century ago.

People in Bar Harbor, a town of 5,000 residents that bustles with tourists in the summer, say they are excited about Obama's visit.

But with the area's history of business barons, political power brokers and famous actors among them for generations, they're used to having the rich and famous in their midst. People in Maine, they say, aren't likely to get too flustered by the presidential visit.

"There are still famous and wealthy people all over the island, and their privacy is very much respected," said Craig Neff, owner of The Naturalist's Notebook, a shop in Seal Harbor village not far from where lifestyle maven Martha Stewart owns an estate originally built for automobile tycoon Edsel Ford. "If I were a billionaire, I would certainly appreciate it. It's always been that way."

This guy takes more leisure time than all other presidents combined.

Hopefully, he’ll take a dip and the camera’s will be rolling. Water temps this time of year are about 45F.

More shrinkage for an already shrinking President.

Hey AP, I am neither rich nor famous and am in Bar Harbor right now. Oh sure, the brainwashed are excited about his visit. Meanwhile, alot of the small business owners trying to make a living are muttering under their breath that they wish he would stay away as the disruption will be more trouble than it is worth.

Meanwhile, I am annoyed that the SOB is going to close down roads and parts of the Park and foul up my vacation and the other people who drove umpteen hours to get here (to escape this kind of crapola). What am I saying? How selfish of me, this guy needs and deserves a vacation. It is not easy “never resting” when you are always “resting.” Being caught in a conundrum must be exhausting.

Why are we paying him $400,000/yr again?? If this is what being POTUS means, sign me up!! I’d love to be paid to be on vacation, play golf and have a drooling, swooning DBM at my beck and call to idolize my every word.

When does he have time to conduct the business of the United States? Or, is he just getting it all out of his system now in preparation for spending the rest of his natural life in Ft. Leavenworth??

It’ll be a mess considering how much of the park is one way, or served by limited roads. I would suggest that you consider a trip across the bay to the Schoodic Peninsula part of the park, or fleeing on the CAT for a few days.

Why would a guy who never works need a vacation??? And Bar Harbor???? It’s a dump. Nothing but a honky-tonk tourist trap. Stores are garbage as are the restaurants. Acadia NP is beautiful. Let’s hope Hussein stays out! I don’t think I could ever eat a popover at Jordan Pond again if I new his soory ass had been there!

Obama chose Maine where he can still walk on clean sand and water. If he went to the Gulf, walking on water would be difficult...he might slip. Covered in oil, he might get tagged with the word "slick" like our other first black president. Who, as recently announced, BO has asked to come and help advise him, LOL.

It seems that doing the job of leading the country is just too hard for BO to do alone. After all, we are reaching the two year mark. BO never worked more than two years at anything before...he is getting worn out. Except, as Senator he worked? [wrote two books about himself] for two years, then he began campaigning. Working got boring, I guess. Narcissists have very short attention spans, unless they are focusing on themselves.

The Worst Couple is not going to this exclusive area in Maine just to catch the cool summer breezes.

Every jaunt by the Obamamarxists is targeted, calculated, planned and executed with a purpose.

Always follow the money when you follow Obama vacations.

Even though the stay is only for three days, there's ample time for him to play several rounds of golf with billionaire potential donors and for her to have exclusive luncheons with the wives and starry-eyed daughters of billionaire potential donors.

Let's call this island invasion for what it is......a working vacation.

There's no money to be gleaned or coerced from park rangers, wait staff and racoons at rustic Camp David.

One a week. If your golf game sucked as bad as his does, you'd need time away, too. After all, it's the only real "work" he's doing, and he sucks at it, too.

The CAT no longer runs. Hope and/or change ate it. We are going to head out of MDI early and go down to Rockland rather than fight this mess. We have to eat part of our rental, but it is better than being stuck on the island.

Unlike a real president, he has no place of his own and must depend on the largess of worshiping disciples.

I don’t think we will see any photos of his boat and newly caught fish.

From the article you linked (emphasis mine):

Maine would mark the president's third vacation trip since the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded and sank into gulf waters, over 80 days ago. The first family spent Memorial Day weekend relaxing in Chicago and just three days after the crisis began, Mr. Obama traveled to Asheville, North Carolina for a weekend getaway with the first lady and indulged in a round of golf. Since then, the president has hit the links nine times since the beginning of the oil spill prompting the Republican National Committee to unveil a website Monday, "Golf or Gulf," questioning the president's dedication to the Gulf region.

Three vacations in less than three months...!?

Looks like the First Marxist and family have decided to set up the summer dacha among the well-heeled. Oh, well, “Communism for thee, but not for me,” was always the punchline in the praesidium.

Mount Desert Island, Maine.

Obama's Maine 'pre-vacation' vacation / American Thinker | July 11 | Jeannie DeAngelis: Based on the number of smokehouses the Obamas visited in the last year, vacation spots seem to be chosen based solely on access to BBQ. Thus, Mainely Meat BBQ can look forward to a visit from a hungry presidential brood in search of smoked meat.

All of America knows the elegant and always health-conscious First Lady simply adores, there is the Burning Tree, whose claim to fame is "some of the best and freshest dinners on the island. Much of the produce and herbs come from its own gardens, with the rest of the ingredients supplied locally whenever possible." Garden herbs and locally grown ingredients. Why, that sounds like the White House Victory Garden.

If he so chooses, the Barry-motorcade can safely escort the girls to The Quiet Side Café and Ice Cream Shop, an excursion that would be harrowing in Arizona for individuals just trying to take a kid for an ice cream cone. Ben and Bill's Chocolate Emporium have sweets for "Sweet somethings" Sasha and Malia.........

The Maine-ly Meat BBQ at the Atlantic Brewing Company. Primitive but pretty impressive.

Ben and Bill's Chocolate Emporium

Burning Tree's claim to fame is some of the best and freshest dinners on the island.

We stayed in Bar Harbor two year ago on vacation. It was unbelievable the number of Obama / Biden 08 signs on the front lawns of the rich and wealthy Maine coast land and homeowners.

The New England rich and elite voted for and supported Obama big time.

Having relatives up there, I can safely vouch that Bar Harbor definitely has some good ice cream parlors.

There’s also a story about Martha Stewart...she was visiting Southeast Harbor down in the southern part of the island. She was shopping at a little grocery store. She remembered that there was something she needed to ask someone back at her mansion, but she’d forgotten her cell phone. She went to the manager (also the butcher for the store) and asked if she could use his phone. He mentioned that there was a pay phone out front she could use. She got all huffy with him and said “Do you know who I am?” The storekeeper replied, “Yes, ma’am...and even if you were John D. Rockefeller himself, he’d have to use the pay phone out front.”

She did.
