The Scapegoating of Michael Savage
American Thinker ^ | 07/15/2010 | Robin of Berkeley

Posted on 07/15/2010 11:56:06 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Radio host Michael Savage was my first conservative friend -- although I've never met the man.

When I woke up from liberalism two and a half years ago, I had nowhere to turn. My friends thought I had lost my marbles.

Having vaguely heard something about talk radio, I scanned my AM dial. I happened upon a cantankerous man with a Bronx accent bellowing that liberalism is a mental disorder. To my relief, I had found my first living, breathing conservative.

Everything that came out of Savage's mouth offended me. He blared on about feminized men; borders, language and culture; and other alien concepts.

One minute, Savage would scat in exquisite word jazz; then he'd offer a recipe for his favorite spaghetti sauce. And when the topic turned to liberals, he'd erupt like Mt. Vesuvius.

To my tender, politically correct ears, Savage seemed like a mad man. But in time, I realized that he was crazy like a fox.

At first, I agreed with nothing Savage said -- except about Obama. There, he was spot on.

Savage was one of the first to peg Obama as a socialist. He dubbed Obama "The Little Professor," à la Pol Pot. Savage predicted, quite presciently, that Obama, like his Cambodian brethren, would turn on his own people.

After listening daily for a few months, something shocking happened. Savage started to make sense. I am reminded of that Mark Twain quip about his dad.

Twain wrote that when he was a teenager, his father didn't know what he was talking about. When Twain became a young adult, suddenly his old man made sense. Twain quipped that he couldn't believe how much his dad had learned in a few short years. Like Twain, I was finally growing up.

Savage taught me about the perils of communism. He also opened my eyes to the gifts of the United States. All this was new and different. Living in the left-wing Berkeley bubble for almost three decades, I breathed in Marxism as seamlessly as air.

I have an image of myself, frozen in time. I'm standing in my office a couple of years ago, stopped dead in my tracks, as Savage described the atrocities of the old  Soviet Union. Quite honestly, I had no idea. Deprogramming from my leftist coma had begun.

So it was extremely alarming to hear last year that Savage was being targeted for a public shunning by the British. The Home Secretary at the time, Jacqui Smith, had placed Savage on a no-fly list along with hardcore criminals.

Kowtowing to political correctness, the Brits were using Savage as their sacrificial lamb, apparently to placate the Muslims. And the new British Conservative government plans to continue his scapegoating.

Savage has concluded that the Brits were not the masterminds.  His show wasn't even carried by British radio. The plot to make him persona non grata clearly began closer to home.

If you've ever been scapegoated at work or at home, you know what it's like; it's psychologically eviscerating. Scapegoating is designed to wipe out another person's humanity.

It also sends out a stern warning to others. Should they not toe the party line, they'll be cast out as surely as were those sacrificial goats in Biblical times.

Scapegoating is so malevolent that M. Scott Peck made it the very definition of evil in his seminal book, People of the Lie. The evil person transfers his own sins onto another in order to maintain moral purity. "We become evil by attempting to hide from ourselves," says Peck.

Along with Savage, there have been many others subjected to the Left's witch hunts. Sweet little Carrie Prejean was robbed of her Miss California crown and publicly humiliated for supporting traditional marriage. Sarah Palin has been the object of endless taunts and vilification.

Average Americans attending tea parties are cavalierly smeared as "racists" and "Nazis." And it's not just the minions who are doing the tarnishing.

The Powers that Be are inciting the masses through their own hate speech. When the leaders use the full weight of the government to crack down on dissidents, we're no longer in the United States of old; we've been catapulted into a netherworld, presided over by men and women who long ago lost their souls.

Prophetically, Michael Savage knew this would happen. That's why he has raised his voice from the moment Obama entered the scene, imploring people to heed his warnings. His steady drumbeat has been, "You have no idea of the danger that you're in."

The scapegoating of Michael Savage should serve as a cautionary tale to liberals. It should be the proverbial slap in the face to those still punch-drunk on all that hope and change.

Today, it's conservatives. But tomorrow, it will be liberals. For instance, those lefties at Whole Foods discovered, to their utter shock, what it's like to incur the Left's wrath.

This is because the progressives are a bloodthirsty bunch with an insatiable appetite for power, just like their forefather, Pol Pot. Given enough time and opportunity, the Left has no qualms about eating its own.

Savage is not the most tactful person but then that is what makes him great.

Savage speaks the truth and we all know the truth is not pretty.

“You can become Conservative any time you like.”

You can become a toolmaker any time you want to, as well. But you will need to know a few things first.

Radio host Michael Savage was my first conservative friend

Then I heard him yell at folks, call them names and hang up on them.

Realizing that your average bi-polar eight year old will do the same, I kicked him to the curb.

I’m a Long Island girl by birth and listening to Savage is pure heaven for me. NY’ers have a way with directness..you either get it, or you’re offended. No beating around the bush! Plus, the accent...I love it!

Michael is definitely in my top 3 radio host list. #1 Beck #2 Rush #3 Savage.

You’re a 2-3 year vet here on FR. Don’t let the long-timers here get away with beating you up for being a newly enlightened conservative. Stand your ground.

Then why talk to them in the first place, if not to show off by abusing them?

It's like kicking puppies or kittens.

Sure you can kick them. Does it make you a bad ass?

Previously a lifelong Democrat, born in New York and living in New England, surrounded by liberals on all sides, I’ve found myself slowly but surely leaving the fold and becoming that dread thing: a neocon.

Why did you link to a blog titled "neocon.com" where somebody else wrote about R-O-B? Why not link directly to the column written by R-O-B herself? You know...the one in which she states...

"While that experience was seismic, it doesn't compare to my sea change upon Obama's ascension. One minute I was a leftist, despising this country and all it stood for....And then, abruptly and astonishingly, I became a conservative."

Michael savage is strong enough not to give a rat's tail, what anyone else thinks about him. He is in control of his show and pulls no punches. What is it they say about a guy with nothing else to lose” They lose their fear and tell it like it is.

Hurray, for Michael Savage.

To tell you the truth, I don't trust government nor any politician. It's all a game show these days. We citizens have a duty to this nation to think critically and ask them ALL hard questions.

However, liberalism is down right against my religion. Just because I am hard on Republicans doesn't make me a liberal. I just expect better. Liberals I don't expect much of anything.

It was like the same process in the fifties when former commies woke up to the fact that the prononents of communism in the arts were just propagandizing the big lie. Many at that time woke up and not only opted out of the communist party but also informed on hardcore communists in the country.

Yes, he does NOT have the time on radio to suffer fools gracefully and convert these fools who have been brainwashed into liberal ideology since turning on Sesame Street. That brainwashing (as Savage and Beck has correctly pointed out) has been mainstreamed for a hundred years and instituted into the University and all public schools directly into the heads of our children.

Read Blooms book, The Closing of the American Mind which explains the Progressive movement and read about Progressive’s John Dewey’s stranglehold on the minds of American children and you will understand the illogical, idiocy that Savage is trying to dispell from these sick, twisted, perverted minds in the matter of a few minutes on air.

Impossible task? Not for Savage! He has that interesting, entertaining edge that is NEEDED to capture idiotic, non-logical minds. Sounding like Dobson would not work on the people he is trying to convert from the godless, marxist ideology back to the previous ‘God Bless America’ paradigm.

He is after the Rev. Wright disciples who would scoff at people who sound like James Dobson (God bless his soul).

Impossible????? Most will say absolutely. But Savage has managed to do it more successfully on radio than any other person in the history of the world. I am another proof of it and have met many like me—brainwashed but now rational— able to spot lies and deceit. Able to spot marxist code words in my children’s education such as ‘multiculturalism’, ‘tolerance’, situational ethics, social Darwinism to pervert the Natural development of children from Natural Law and God’s Law. Yes, because of Savage. And God bless him and keep him also. He is attacking Lucifer and his kingdom here on earth and is wreaking hell for it.

That is why he is feared. He has vast knowledge and wisdom and sticks to COMMON SENSE that rings as TRUTH— that God has given to him the gift and talent to impart and make understandable to such an uneducated, brainwashed mass of Americans—the Truth and moral absolutes. Actually, I think Savage has been sent by God. He is a miracle.

An intelligent person can be brainwashed just like a stupid one; the process begins in infancy from parents, other children, popular entertainment, church, etc. The difference is that an intelligent person can put together disparate pieces, all seeming unrelated to the jigsaw puzzle of life, when given one key piece: they were Lied To.

My own deprogramming came courtesy of Our Lord in the spring of 2001. I still, occasionally find pieces of the Lie in my own thinking. I have to take time to investigate, learn, reflect, and ponder.

I’m not denying anyone. I’m saying it takes more than saying you are a conservative, THEN BUILDING A BLOG THAT INFLUENCES PEOPLE, than the reality of internalizing the change and being constructive in executing your new responsibility to the public. I am not “denying” her anything...I am expressing an opinion.

Thanks for reminding me this isn’t a country club, though. That seemed mighty open and accepting to me. I guess you just wanted to play through, eh?

Your analogy does not fit. Fools that Savage deals with are the opposite of puppy and kittens.

The ones he yells at are arrogant, irresponsible and ignorant and usually think immorality is their right and a good thing. They are rude and ill read, have no real world experience and have been coddled all their lives and think others should be their slaves and provide for them as they watch tv and act irresponsibly and never, ever, educate themselves on anything of real importance.

They do need a real swift kick in the pants but Savage can only do it with his voice. The parents (if they have any) have sorely neglected their job and Savage understands that.

Deprogramming is a lifelong venture. The more you learn, the more you understand you need to learn.....it is on going—never ends—hopefully. New insight always will come with more knowledge and wisdom.

That is why the Marxists want children to be leery of anyone over the age of 30. They know that wisdom comes with a combination of age and experience. It is why the 60’s said western civ has got to go....made for an intelligent, logical, godly, wise populous and the commies could not convert them.

The Marxist destroyed wisdom by destroying the “evil” white men in all curricula which made their genius bogus.

Al Gores tell children “they know MORE than their parents”///That marxist thinking is crucial....Children’s minds are easy to manipulate and control which swallows the Big Lie. Al Gore should fry in hell.

"That was a quote from her bio...she wrote it herself. what do you think I’m doing trying to pull a fast one on ya?"

The quote you cited, "I'm a lifelong Democrat, born in New York and living in New England..." is from the author of neocon.com. It is not from Robin of Berkeley...I don't think you're trying to pull a "fast one" but you attributed biographical details and background to somebody other than the person we happen to be discussing.

The reason I suggested you look into the actual Robin's background (lots of stuff on americanthinker.com) is that you'd see her conversion, her "Road to Damascus" moment, so to speak, is one that she has written quite extensively about, and would IMHO, change your opinion of her (in)sincerity and authenticity...she's an exceptional writer and her critical commentary and insight from her liberal past puts her on par with (IMHO) David Horowitz.

It sounds like you are playing God and judging the heart of Savage. People choose to call him. They are never forced so there is no analogy to wittle puppies and kitties being kicked. Nor are his callers innocent.

They are masochists if they call him without any facts. That is their choice and I hold THEM responsible for their stupidity==not Savage. Savage is one of the clearest thinkers in today’s world, although I most admire the writings of the Pope.

"I don’t know whose posts you are reading..."

I'm reading your post, and I clicked on your link...it took me to another writer who was commenting on Robin of Berkeley. The bio about the New England residing author is the blogger at neocon.com. Robin of Berkeley, curiously enough resides in...Berkeley (CA)...not New England.

"But it was still irrelevant to my point, which is that it takes a little more than a couple of years to shed a lifetime of brainwashing."

My encouraging you to look into her background was directly relevant to your point...if you'd read some of her past columns, you'd see that in the past year or so, she's become perhaps more galvinized in her conservative views and given her background, provides some valuable insights that might not ever occur to any life-long conservative...

Here are her columns she's been writing for American Thinker since early 2009. I'm providing you this link not to prove you wrong, raise the ante a debate or drive my point home...but merely to share some conservative writing and views that I think you'll find pretty impressive and thought provoking...

I disagree that it takes more than a couple of years to shed the liberal brainwashing.

It depends on the massive brainwashing prior to the “awakening”. I was raised in Catholic schools which taught Plato, Aristotle and the Christian paradigm. I also had a stable family upraising.

Therefore, I fell under the godless marxist (post modern German philosophy of nihilism and the Culture of Death) paradigm in college for awhile which continued because of the constant programing and conditioning in the popular media with movies, TV, etc.

There always was an underlying uncomfortable feeling with me when I was exposed to Marxist ideology in my children’s schools but I could not put my finger on it until SAVAGE.

Once he put a name on it....it was like an avalanche. Within weeks of intense reading and studying and going back to school, I was a convert within months. Like I say, it can happen in a short amount of time if you put intense time into thinking about the issues.

Yes, I always have new insights, but once you understand Marxist atheism, it doesn’t become that hard to ferret out the lies if you study issues. It also makes you cynical of anything until you have the time to research it.

Conservatives are at war with liberals, and as long as we keep bickering among ourselves we're letting the left further divide us.

I like Savage, Limbaugh and Beck...certainly they are rivals, but in the big picture they're all on the same side. I think of it as kind of interservice rivalries...there's no shortage of animus or posturing between say fighter jocks and bomber pilots or infantry and cavalry, but they each play their role in the larger fight against the enemy. I like Savage's willingness to take the left's fight to them on their terms; indeed, sometimes it seems like the only way to get through to them is to bluntly, harshly and coarsely point out the bankrupt idiocy of their views. Having said that, I also admire and enjoy Rush's cerebral approach, and Beck's humor (and at times drama). It really gives us on the right a balanced attack against the left.

I like Limbaugh. Savage gets turned off immediately.
Beck is a clown, I can listen to him until he either
gets on a "holy roller" kick or gets all condescending
and talks about he is going to "educate" me.

I agree, but some of those guys are just too over the top.

in the big picture they're all on the same side.

I think some of the lesser ones.. that would be Savage and Beck..
are in it for money. Offer them the right price and they'll
preach the virtues of Che Guevara. Just my opinion.

Limbaugh has ascended beyond that point and I believe him.

His arrogance puts me off at times, but hey.. I'm an ass too.

To each his own, and I'm generally glad they're all on our side. Certainly they're all in it for the money...nobody wants to work for free...I know I don't, but I don't share your cynical view of their sincerity. Actually, my least favorite big name host (and the one I think is most in it for money and ego) is Hannity, but even he has his part in attracting a segment of the soccermom crowd to the conservative movement.

I know Savage can be pretty harsh towards his rivals, but I also remember him being utterly ferocious in his defense of Rush when Limbaugh checked into drug rehab. I wish more conservative talkers would come out swinging on Savage's behalf regarding his blacklisting from the UK. Bill Cunningham and Rusty Humphreys are the only talkers I've heard give him any vocal support (as well as Drudge.)
