America's Ruling Class -- And the Perils of Revolution
American Spectator ^ | Angelo M. Codevilla

Posted on 07/16/2010 4:35:54 AM PDT by rellimpank

As over-leveraged investment houses began to fail in September 2008, the leaders of the Republican and Democratic parties, of major corporations, and opinion leaders stretching from the National Review magazine (and the Wall Street Journal) on the right to the Nation magazine on the left, agreed that spending some $700 billion to buy the investors' "toxic assets" was the only alternative to the U.S. economy's "systemic collapse." In this, President George W. Bush and his would-be Republican successor John McCain agreed with the Democratic candidate, Barack Obama. Many, if not most, people around them also agreed upon the eventual commitment of some 10 trillion nonexistent dollars in ways unprecedented in America. They explained neither the difference between the assets' nominal and real values, nor precisely why letting the market find the latter would collapse America. The public objected immediately, by margins of three or four to one.

When this majority discovered that virtually no one in a position of power in either party or with a national voice would take their objections seriously, that decisions about their money were being made in bipartisan backroom deals with interested parties, and that the laws on these matters were being voted by people who had not read them, the term "political class" came into use. Then, after those in power changed their plans from buying toxic assets to buying up equity in banks and major industries but refused to explain why, when they reasserted their right to decide ad hoc on these and so many other matters, supposing them to be beyond the general public's understanding, the American people started referring to those in and around government as the "ruling class."

“Just when voters were starting to forget how bad Republicans were (because of democrats failure and self destruction) we hear that GWBs book goes on sale right after the midterm election. Just what we need. Get out the handkerchiefs for the upcoming ‘Pray for Bush’ threads. Expect lots more nostalgic weeping about ‘the good times’. “

It will leak well before the election, and Bush will be crucified all over again RIGHT BEFORE the election.Everyone will once again be reminded that Bush blew it.

RE :”Would Sarah Palin consider GW Bush a “good ol’ boy?

She is careful not to talk about GWB years at all which is smart politically. I know just after the 2008 election loss she gave an interview blaming the Bush years (spending, debt, war problems) on the McCain-Palin loss. But soon after that she went into campaign mode and that meant talking as if the universe was created the day Obama was sworn in. She repudiated TARP1 (after defending it with Mccain) as that became very unpopular with most of the republicans after Obama took office.

RE :”It will leak well before the election, and Bush will be crucified all over again RIGHT BEFORE the election.Everyone will once again be reminded that Bush blew it.

That is when we will be lectured by our Pray for Bush friends led by our favorite Bush-bot friend (codename ‘truth file’) that the only way we can beat democrats (because of his book) is to get behind Bush again and create a phony legacy for him much like democrats did for Clinton. Dem's had a easier job than Bush-bots do. Things were very bad in 2008.

Yep, Bush coming out now can only hurt us, remember his GM bailout ~ January 2009 just to remind us at the end who he really was?

“There will indeed be a revolution. How violent it is remains to be seen.

However, I - as before - volunteer to operate the guillotine.

And I will do it with a smile.”

It is our only hope. Both parties are corrupt, both parties work for the bankers.

The risk in a revolution is that you don’t know where we come out on the other side. Do we return to constitutional government or do we end up with less freedom than when we began?

Revolutionary War, c 1776, “War for Independence” - won
Civil War c. 1861, “2nd War for Independence” - lost
Yet to be named and dated, “3rd War for Independence” - tie breaker to be determined

The American way is to get the folks out of power, undo their mistakes, and then go on from there.

So much for Jefferson's "tree of liberty" quote.

a third-party that ran on a promise of a Term Limits constitutional amendment AND ending all government pensions would get some serious traction

Will the revolution be televised?

Not on CNN.

(well, they may interview the guillotine operator and ask him whether he realizes he got a $400 tax refund)

Tied down totalitarians on a variable speed production line facing the bloody saw blade. I’ll be the quality control guy insuring the neck is in proper alignment. Production line capability necessary for all totalitarians on the planet. Introduce 6-sigma 2.0 for totalitarians.

Thanks for posting, rellimpank.

Just because you don't know any does not mean there are none.

People are imprisoned for political or personal reasons of the ‘ruling class’ all the time. I've known several.

I left the USSR to get away from things like this but I feel like I am back again. It hurts to think I could be living in an even worse place at an old age. At least the Soviets took care of and respected old people that gave their all for the country. I fear that I will have to fight the vapid self-absorbed obamabots for my life here.

Revolution. A third supported the government, the Crown. A third were in insurrection. And, a third, sat on the sidelines.

( My relations on my father's side were ‘loyalist’ in Boston, and fled to Nova Scotia for a few years. Some stayed and are still there )

We would have a Yugoslavia type ‘event’. Street by street, neighbor by neighbor.

However I think a minority of us can, demanding our rights, in full, do a Solidarity type ‘event’ over a few years with ‘illegal’ actions. Illegal as defined by our over lords.
