Let's dispel with your 'strawman'. Rick Klein and Mark Halperin are liberals in media (not deserving of the term 'journalist').

That doesn't then prove that these statements were not said by actual Romney insiders (hint: Eric Fehrnstrom). Maybe, maybe not. However, based on past behavior of the Romney campaign, this fits the M.O. of Romney media relations to a tee. You bring up Fred Thompson. Quite ironic, since he was the recipient of Romney campaign dirty politics using a friendly media who did not want Fred and was more than willing to aid Romney. You say (source, proof, evidence?) that Klein is no friend of Romney. I say that Klein and many other MSMer's are great friends of Romney's brain, Eric Fehrnstrom. Just google Fehrnstrom. You'll not find a more duplicitous and corrupt snake in politics outside of the WH.

No, but once you have someone you admit is your enemy, them claiming something based on anoynmous sources doesn't prove it WAS.

You haven't really dealt with the reason I find this odd -- the fact that Romney wouldn't be able to dismiss this with a twitter if it were true, because Romney's twitter certainly indicates these people aren't speaking for his campaign and he doesn't know who they are, and if Klein knew otherwise we'd have read about it already.

Fred Thompson? Again, there was no evidence about who spread the Thompson rumors, and it made more sense that it was a McCain rumor; it was anoynmous sources again, not liberals but an opinion writer claiming the leak was FROM a campaign, with no evidence to back it up.

But surely, everybody here was willing to claim as fact something that was at best an unconfirmed rumor. Whereas normally, we are smart enough to know the difference between what MIGHT be true and what is absolutely true.

But I have learned that when it comes to specific politicians, there's no point in trying to have a rational discussion, even among otherwise seemingly intelligent conservatives. Because when it comes down to it, too many here at FR are happy to leave their brains at the door if it suits their political purpose. BTW, ONE would be too many, lest you think I'm claiming a particular number.

BTW, I’ve never said that it can’t be true. It certainly would be possible for a current Romney operative to have said those things without Romney knowing about it.

It is bothersome that we don’t have omnipotence, so we all knew exactly what the truth is about everything. I’d love to know exactly what happens in all the things we hear about here. But we are all just guessing what is in a black box based on what we can see through peepholes. It’s a fun game to play, but it’s not the same as knowing the truth.

And I’ve learned that most people are so wedded to their political picks that they don’t play the game, the just look at the black box and say they see what is best for their candidate. Sadly, that means that a site like FR, which is my number one source for facts about the news of the day, is almost worthless when it comes to getting facts about political campaigns.

Because there are times when people are more interested in scoring political points, than discerning what the clues could really mean.

But after watching this done to Sarah Palin for two years, it should be clear to all of us how easy it is to spread misconceptions if you don’t really dig down and learn the facts. And we should stop accepting “news” that refuses to give us any evidence, when evidence is so easily given.
