“I’m a monster, mommy,” Meagan said.

Six year old girl has half of face ripped off by a pit bull that escaped from a neighbor's house. She had surgery this week and told her mom that she did not want to see her face until she was ten. She took a glimpse in the mirror (mom had covered it up with towels) and said that sle looked like a "monster."

The attack occured in front of her borther. Cute before picture in the story. Doctors are happy with her progress right now.

I am not sure what I would do the the owners of this animal if I was the parent. It must have crossed the owners' minds that this could occur by owning such a vicious breed of dog. They are not identified in this article.

THANK YOU! I couldn’t go to bed until FR posted a pit bull story.

Good nigh all!

a shotgun comes to mind....

I know we'll have the usual pit bull defenders coming on soon....

but having a known vicious dog breed around, is like having a loaded gun lying on your coffee table....

how could anyone take a chance with a child at risk?....I think it might border on evil...

Would they be coming to terms with their new, half face ripped off, appearance?

Some pit bull terriers may be the best dogs in the whole world, but...I’m not owning one!

I’d usually be one as I do not believe a breed as a whole is vicious. However, this dog needs to be put down. Given what I know of this situation, this animal is quite dangerous.

Lawsuit! Sue the Pit Bull owner into poverty. Although he/she probably is already in poverty. You are responsible for your animal and pit bull owners should consider liability issues. Most of them probably don't know the definition of the word liability but they should be made to learn. A few good killer lawsuits ought to scare the hell out of these pit bull owners.

Take'em to the cleaners.

U explained it. Most pit bull owners are from the lower end. Can’t sue them for anything because they got nothing to begin with. Their attitude is this: I may be on the bottom of the economic totem pole but on this sidewalk you are going to get off!

Worse. A loaded gun doesn't get up on its own and attack people.

Even if the breed isn't always vicious, it's a biological creature and biological creatures can become ill, confused, etc. Perhaps ownership of this breed (carefully defined to avoid people evading) should be restricted like we restrict ownership of other dangerous species.
