Authorities in California said today they have opened an investigation into Goldline International, a company that pioneered the practice of weaving its sales pitches into broadcasts by popular conservative political personalities -- including two former presidential candidates and Fox News host Glenn Beck -- to sell hundreds of millions of dollars worth of gold every year.
There are two main types of complaints we're seeing," said Adam Radinsky of the Santa Monica City Attorney's office, which has launched what it described as a joint investigation with the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office.
"One is that customers say that they were lied to and misled in entering into their purchases of gold coins," he said. "And the other group is saying that they received something different from what they had ordered."

FDR confiscated the gold. So did Fidel. Barack will too.
I guess advertising really does pay, no matter how lame the commercial.
Gee, what a coincidence. A sponsor of conservative commentator Glenn Beck is being investigated for fraud.
Anyone who really believes this investigation isn’t solely based on political grounds is delusional. The left is desperate to de-legitimize Beck and any conservative commentator and going after their sponsors has long been one line of attack, which usually fails, as this one will.
So, Beck is RIGHT.
To the mattresses.
The left, once again showing Americans how they are nothing more than repugnant pigs...
A few weeks ago Beck revealed he had a discussion with his advertisers about things like this happening.
Now we know why Apple refuses to let Limbaugh run advertising on his show.
They don’t want to be placed under investigation by,*AHEM* their own side.
FWIW - there are better places to buy gold than this place.
Just one of the many fronts MSM & the RATS are waging in their war against Beck and other conservatives to silence them.
But CNBC's boss is "owned" by Obamassiah so it's OK.
Over 100 complaints of fraudulent dealings should be ignored I suppose.
He might cry again.
Invest in tissues.
FWIW - there are better places to buy gold than this place.
Sadly, Glen Beck and Mike Huckabee's audiences consist of the same gullible Lawrence Welk Conservatives who were oblivious to this "modern spiritual."
Lied to... Got something different from what they ordered... Lots of complaints...
Funny, sounds like the federal government
When will we get an investigation started to look into the practices of congress?
“Blanchards” is good. I didn’t like Goldline because they were too fast and slick on the phone. Wouldn’t take time out to explain anything.
I assume you’d prefer the gold money be spent on trains?
Goldline carries a A+ rating from the BBB and these complaints constitute 1/10 of 1% of their customers. Hardly a red flag. Anyone can file a complaint against a company on specious grounds. I strongly suspect that this investigation will produce nothing at all but the leftmedia will use 'investigation of Glenn Beck sponsor' to infer that Beck is complicit in helping a company defraud his listeners. A complete and utter lie but then, we're talking about leftists, in this case some otherwise inconsequential lefty congressman from New Yawk, who can't win an argument with facts so they use any means available to silence those who oppose their political philosophy.
I wouldn't be surprised to learn, some day when no one cares anymore, that the complaints against Goldline were entirely bogus. Meanwhile, Glenn Beck will prosper as will his sponsors. That this infuriates the political left is always satisfying.
I assume youd prefer the gold money be spent on trains?
No, I think Americans should be allowed to horde as much gold as they want.
But I think it's also wise to have a diversified portfolio of tangible assets, so it would be a good idea to convert some of the paper money into modern, efficient passenger rail infrastructure before them stinking federal reserve notes become as worthless as TP.
I believe the DA of LA county is a Republican I am not sure of the political persuasion of the Santa Monica DA, but it does seem to be a joint investigation.
>> Gee, what a coincidence.
Naturally. Reminds me of the crap Gov. Palin had to endure in Alaska post 2008 POTUS race.
No one but you, welfare parasites and gummint functionaries like the Lionel system. I like my truck. And I don’t live and work in a rats maze.
What is your ends in these choo-choos? Money or control?
Sounds like a perfect case for Eric H. Holder’s Justice Department - unless of course we’re talking about black gold.
Maybe they should look into that company that says they can make your winker bigger and everything will be delivered in a plain brown wrapper. Someone I know (not me) has sent them over three hundred dollars and we still call him (not me) ‘needle dick the bug fu”ker.’
I am holding on to the gold in my ‘’grill’’

Kowtowing to the illiterate backwoods hermit vote isn't going to get the GOP back in the majority seat.
What is your ends in these choo-choos? Money or control?Independence from OPECker Oil.
The L.A. District Attorney is a Republican (don't know about the Santa Monica official). Of course, so is John McCain.
I've seen this too often to be reassured by an 'R' after a politicians name that they aren't doing the work of the left. Steve Cooley, the Los Angeles D.A., is running for California Attorney General (in a 'blue' state) so I'm not at all convinced that this isn't a witch hunt intended to ultimately smear Glenn Beck and any conservative broadcaster that Goldline sponsors by the inference that the broadcaster colluded with a dishonest gold broker in some scheme to defraud their faithful (but dumb, to the liberal mind) listeners/viewers. I'm surprised that any political conservative would be so easily assured that because the D.A. is a Republican, this can only be an investigation devoid of any political bias.
Frankly, it isn't as much about the sponsor as it is an attempt to cast suspicion on the conservative commentator. If this kind of investigation scares away potential advertisers for conservative broadcasters, from the left's point of view, its all for the better.
Fortunately, most listeners/viewers of Beck, Limbaugh and others are savvy enough to see the real intent behind this investigation. If some wrongdoing is found, which I doubt, let the company be prosecuted, but I maintain my belief that this is, as I've stated, politically motivated, especially in an election year with the popular tide turning hard against Democrats, who are likely becoming increasing desperate as they see their dream of a socialist utopia in America about to collapse with the November election. Sarah Palin was constantly accused of 'ethics violations' which were totally bogus but had to be investigated. They came to nothing. So will this.
Buying gold from these type of companies makes no sense.
If gold is going to go to $2000/oz or $4000/oz as many here believe; why would you sell it to the public for only $1200 an ounce.
Why wouldn’t a company that has plenty of gold hold onto to it if it was such a great investment guaranteed to double or tripe in value in a short time?
Because you sell to to suckers at a high price.
This is true of every non-essential product advertised on TV, from BMW to water filters :
Persuasion aimed at the clueless, the ignorant and the not so bright. You can't eat the stuff, it can't cure your illnesses, it can't pay your mortgage or pay your taxes, and it makes you a target of every criminal within 100 miles of your home.
Imagine when, as has happened with credit cards and identities, your name, among millions of others are stolen, complete with adresses.
Also imagine the government ordering all individuals to turn in all physical gold, and personal ownership deemed illegal--- wait---- that's already happened once. Never mind.
Criminal oppresive government can't protect the stupid. It can ony exploit them further.
The timing may be suspect, but it looks like Goldline is trying to sell high markup gold coins to people, coins with dubious numismatic value, to folks who are really looking for gold as an investment, a hedge against inflation, and where the buy back value of the coin according to the spot gold price, is close to the price paid at the time of sale.
Whether this is illegal or not, I don’t know, who knows what salespeople on the phone, who are getting a commission, say.
Hopefully, they tell the truth, but in any case, from what I have learned on the subject, the mark up on the coins that GL is pushing first and foremost to callers is very high, and way above industry standards.
And of course, just like any business you might consider doing business with, you have to ask yourself, eh, they are advertising on TV, and on all these expensive venues, they expect to make this money back somehow, ie, charging people more.
I agree with everything you say -— tell people the sky is falling and sell them gold to weather the storm. Good business and nicely targeted.
I do not think the DAs are implying anything to do with Glen Beck, that is ABC`s take on the investigation.
The sky IS falling, and gold might be a great way to weather inflation, and in fact, coins may resist a govt confiscation better than straight bouillon, but, from what I hear, GL is NOT the place to purchase your gold.
I am still learning about all this stuff, precious metals, you have to really be careful, I read yesterday about rust showing up on some gold coins that had come straight from the Russian bank!
and in Vick’s Vapo-rub
Why would the MSM and the ‘RATS want to silence a talking
head like Beck?
I’m sure they’re not afraid of him and his loony ravings, so
why would anyone want him silenced?
Beck might even be a gift to the Democrats.
Time will tell.
