Four people were charged Monday for allegedly spraying a police cruiser with bullets, narrowly missing the patrolman inside the car in South Toledo.

Raul Moya, 16, Martin Cheno, 20, Jorge Rojas, 19, and Chadd Rabara, 17, whose address were unavailable, were charged with attempted aggravated murder and felonious assault. Mr. Cheno and Mr. Rojas were being held in the Lucas County jail and Mr. Moya was being held in the Juvenile Justice Center.

Mr. Rabara remained at large Monday night, police said.

Officer George Shaughnessy, who joined the department in 1992, suffered a minor head injury in the 3 a.m. incident on Monday. One of the rounds struck the driver's seat head rest, authorities said.

A dozen bullets into the police car - that's one fortunate police officer to be going home to his family.

Toledo, police union officials urged to restart negotiations

He said his members "are cognizant of what's going on in the economy," and are not averse to making concessions to help the city balance its budget. The sticking point among union members, he said, was "clear-cut language" that would guarantee no officers would be laid off if they accept concessions. "We were the only union that had members laid off last year," he said. "That was a huge sticking point."

Is Toledo one of the safer Ohio cities?

Snip: First using Sperling’s Best Cities comparison tool, they have a rating system of one to ten, the higher the number the higher the crime index. The national average is a 3 for Violent Crime and a 3 for Property Crime. Toledo has a ranking of 7 for both, the numbers used are from the FBI.
