News Media Blackout of Firing of Racist Obama Agriculture Appointee
Monday, July 19, 2010 | Kristinn

Posted on 07/19/2010 7:08:25 PM PDT by kristinn

As of 10:00 p.m. EDT, hours after Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack fired Shirley Sherrod for racism in her official duties after being exposed by BigGovernment.com there is a near total blackout by the mainstream news media on the scandal.

Sherrod was appointed a year ago by Vilsack to be the Georgia director of Rural Development where she doled out millions of dollars in federal funds.

Just days before her appointment, the Obama Justice Department settled a lawsuit by Sherrod and her husband claiming discrimination against their farm cooperative for a reported $13 million.

A search of Google News and Google Blogs shows nothing form the Associated Press or Reuters. Nothing from Politico or The Hill. Nothing from The New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times. Nothing from MSNBC or CNN. Nothing from ABC or NBC. CBS gets partial credit for running a story earlier about Sherrod's racist remarks but has failed to follow up with the story of her firing.

Credit goes to Fox News for reporting the story and updating it with news of Sherrod's termination:

The Agriculture Department announced Monday, shortly after FoxNews.com published its initial report on the video, that Sherrod had resigned.

"There is zero tolerance for discrimination at USDA, and I strongly condemn any act of discrimination against any person," Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said in a written statement. "We have been working hard through the past 18 months to reverse the checkered civil rights history at the department and take the issue of fairness and equality very seriously."

Sherrod was videotaped at an NAACP dinner in March of this year speaking about an incident where she discriminated against a white farmer while acting in her offical capacity because she is black and is prejudiced against white farmers.

Big Government broke the story with video to back it up around mid-day. The failure of the mainstream media to touch this story even after Sherrod was forced to resign and was publicly rebuked by an Obama cabinet secretary is a shameful example of the censorious nature of the liberal mainstream media.

There was an vanity posted a few hours ago to the effect that if the MSM doesn't report something, it didn't happen.

Its true. There will be no story here, as there wasn't when J Christian Adams resigned.

No story, no outrage. And the progressives will grow increasingly corrupt.

How convenient. I wonder if her appointment was part of the settlement?

Now we know why they threw her overboard so quickly.

Odd how the effing Washington Post missed this story... and every other story doing with racism that doesn't have blacks as victims.

Ya think there bias at the Washington Post? Maybe their too busy having parties with their advertisers... oh wait - I mean with their liberal pol friends...

Maybe MSDNC can splice her picture in at a tea party rally to continue the farce of racist tea party members. Maybe add in a decrying from the Tea Party Federation how the Tea Party Express should stop stalling and distance themselves from this racist.

The $13 million dollar settlement was won by a co-op. No telling how many individuals split the money, but surely, she and her husband profited handsomely from it.

The timing is curious.

BTW, Reagan's fault:

The cash award acknowledges racial discrimination on the part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture for the years 1981-85. (President Reagan abolished the USDA Office of Civil Rights when he became President in 1981.) New Communities is due to receive approximately $13 million ($8,247,560 for loss of land and $4,241,602 for loss of income; plus $150,000 each to Shirley and Charles for pain and suffering). There may also be an unspecified amount in forgiveness of debt. This is the largest award so far in the minority farmers law suit (Pigford vs Vilsack).

Info on the lawsuit here(not sure about the website but it has the statements of all the players):

Vilsack and Holder Announce ‘Pigford II’ USDA Settlement with Black

USDA Press Release No. 0073.10

http://beginningfarmers.org/vilsack-and-holder-announce-pigford-ii-usda-settlement-with-black-farmers/

(snip)

NAACP – Hilary O. Shelton, Director of Washington Bureau and Senior Vice President for Advocacy and Policy:

“The NAACP applauds the USDA for taking this crucial step today to finally close what is a painful, but sadly all too pervasive, chapter in our Nation’s history. We would like to commend President Obama, Secretary Vilsack, Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights Dr. Joe Leonard and others for their commitment to seeing that the U.S. Department of Agriculture fully address this significant injustice and allow all who were affected to seek remedy. The NAACP is now committed to partnering with the USDA and the Congress to try to see that the full $1.25 billion requested by President Obama to help resolve the Pigford claims in his FY 2011 budget proposal is fulfilled. We are further committed to working with the Administration and the Congress to try to level the playing field and to prevent future discrimination against America’s farmers.”

Man oh Man...they are robbibng this country blind and discriminating against whites and non-black farmers at the same time.
