Vilsack says the USDA has no tolerance for discrimination.

Vilsack will be "resigning" soon.

Not sure that is a race issue. From my experience Hertz rental employees are always rude no matter what their color. The most unaccomodating people I have ever come across.

Didn’t she make her comment back in March?

What took so long? Apparently not one single person at the NAACP meeting found her comment racist.

National NAACP President Benjamin Todd Jealous welcomed the resignation because the group opposes racism of all kinds.”

lol The statements that got her canned were made at an NAACP get together. Evidently the NAACP doesn’t mind racism if it’s the right type, unless of course it becomes too noticeable.

Maybe so.

I also ran into something more subtle when I was in North Carolina. I stopped at a Burger King and the black girl behind the counter was very annoyed in having to take my order. She sighed and rolled her eyes, each time she had to go the trouble of pushing the little button on the register.

I found the behavior interesting as I had never encountered it before. I am from Calif. I ate my lunch and watched her. If she was helping a black person, she was friendly. If a white person came to the counter she acted like they were poking her in the eye.

After that I noticed similar behavior in several other transactions while in N/C. The message was clear.

“USDA Worker” ????? Wasn’t she more than a mere “worker”?

This has been posted a few times now:

"But Tuesday morning, Sherrod said what online viewers weren't told in reports posted throughout the day Monday was that the tale she told at the banquet happened 24 years ago -- before she got the USDA job -- when she worked with the Georgia field office for the Federation of Southern Cooperative/Land Assistance Fund.

Sherrod said the short video clip excluded the breadth of the story about how she eventually worked with the man over a two-year period to help ward off foreclosure of his farm, and how she eventually became friends with him and his wife."

Maybe they didn’t notice that the Farmer is now DEAD and so obviously there is NOBODY to corraborate her story.

Funny she left out how she went to the farm and helped him milk the cows, feed the chickens, plow, cut the hay, and made him breakfast in bed while doing his wash.... seeing as how there is nobody around to challenge her version....is there...

Two things here.

Let's see the whole tape.

Let's hear from the farmer or his wife. If there is no corroboration from either for any reason, her story still stinks.

She can always go back to the farm....

Shirley Sherrod was appointed Georgia Director for Rural Development by Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack on July 25. Only days earlier, she learned that New Communities, a group she founded with her husband and other families has won a thirteen million dollar settlement in the minority farmers law suit Pigford vs Vilsack.

Minority Farm Settlement

We have wonderful news regarding the case of New Communities, Inc., the land trust that Shirley and Charles Sherrod established, with other black farm families in the 1960’s. At the time, with holdings of almost 6,000 acres, this was the largest tract of black-owned land in the country. Now with a cash award of historic proportions, the group will be able to begin again.

A couple of new things. Sherrod is saying that she was fired on orders from the White House. Another FReeper has posted that the man’s wife was on CNN and said that SHERROD did save the farm.

oh don’t get me wrong. I know that stuff happens. I’ve seen it. (I’m just mad at Hertz right now.)
What you saw would have made a great video.

I noticed in Hampton, VA that black women are especially rude to white men. I'm a white woman and they pretty much ignored me. But I'd see them go out of their way to be rude to white men. Apparently there are lingering issues.
