Mississippi school pays damages to lesbian teen over prom dispute

(CNN) -- A school district in Mississippi has agreed to pay a recent high school graduate $35,000 in damages and adopt a policy prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation, according to a statement released Tuesday by the American Civil Liberties Union.

The settlement comes after the ACLU sued the school district in Fulton, Mississippi, on behalf of Constance McMillen, a lesbian teen who was told by Itawamba Agricultural High School officials she and her girlfriend would be ejected if they attended the school-sponsored prom.

“Make a no romantic or sexual contact rule for everyone while on school property.”

That is the only way around this issue as a school cannot make a rule saying that two girls cannot kiss or hold hands in the hallway while permitting a boy and a girl to hold hands or kiss in the hallway.

Furthermore, the district screwed-up by admitting that a prom was a school sponsored sexualized event where only a certain class of students could participate.

The school district had no chance in a courtroom.

In the legal profession we call this a nuisance settlement. It would have cost more than $35,000 in legal fees to successfully defend the suit. They got out the cheapest way possible.

In the Mafia, we call it "extortion".

“...told by Itawamba Agricultural High School officials she and her girlfriend would be ejected if they attended the school-sponsored prom.”

If this is true, the school was wrong. Had they ignored the ‘problem’, there would be no problem, and the taxpayers wouldn’t be out $35K.

“You do not have permission to deliberately disrupt a prom.”

Did she do that?

“And when she marries a male and has two natural born kids, will she have to give the money back with interest?”

By my reckoning, that would only highlight how wrong the school was.

The district attempted to set-up two classes of students and would have gotten their hand slapped much harder than 35k if they had stepped into a real courtroom.

Absolutely! What do you think the ACLU is all about but extortion.

My date cancelled on me the day of the prom. I want $35,000!!

If I had gotten 35Grand for every time I got stood up in HS
and invested it wisely, I’d be chasing women on the Riviera!

Yes, but they admitted guilt which is not the purpose of a nuisance settlement.

Sadly, it is not just the ACLU working the old rackets today.

Shakedown artists proliferate in American public life: from the ranks of the civil rights - ahem - "community", to the walnut-paneled offices of Italian-suited, $1000 haircut Tort Pimps who run their thrilling Wheel-of-Misfortune Lottery games in every courtroom in the bleeping country.

And, as we are most painfully aware, far from investigating these shysters, frauds and sticky-fingered hoodlums, our Federal Justice Department now acts as an accomplice, and effectively shares in the proceeds of crime while joining in the rape of the victims.

Great. She wants to be a pervert, and taxpayers have to pay her for her finding it inconvenient.

Makes me long for the days when I was in high school. Back when even the hint of being a homosexual would lead to being immediately ostracized from teenage society and having nasty messages written on your locker. Such rumors were the kiss of death for a teen’s social life.

Yeah, there were kids who came out later, but that was only after the moved to New York City and worked in the theater district.

The only thing worse would have been being fat, wearing glasses & being called a queer. The fatal trifecta.

And no one got cash for having their poor, little feelings hurt!!

The solution does NOT lie with government. The only way these kinds of outrages are ever going to be eliminated is if THE PEOPLE stop them. If every attendee at that prom had stopped in their tracks when Leslie Lesbo and Chum came in, then turned and walked out the door, the loving couple could have had the whole gym to themselves. But absent a crowd, their offense would have been short-lived, the school could have escaped liability, and the message would still have been clear.

Quit looking to the government to solve your moral problems. Solve them yourselves.

How ‘bout if her lover has four legs and a tail ? Or is six years old ? What if she wants to bring all three of her partners ?

It’s all in the name of “diversity”, dontcha know.
