Musselman Challenge 2010 (FR Fundraiser)

So, some of you may remember Musselman Challenge of 2003". It was a fundraiser for FR. FReepers across the country donated an amount they pledged to FR based upon how many mussels I ate at the local chinese restaurant.

It looks time to do it again. Less than $5k to go in this present quarterly FReepathon, and I want to do what I can to help. As such, I will be making the journey to my favorite chinese restaurant on Saturday, July 24th, to raise a few bucks for Free Republic once more. Can we top the 2003 pledges? We will find out...

I thought this would be a mussel eating contest with a $10 buy-in.

Here is how it works: You, the FReeper, pledge to donate an amount determined by yourself, for every every mussel I eat. Some may pledge five cents per mussel. Others may pledge $1.00. It is entirely up to you. In 2003, I ate 101 mussels for Free Republic. This time, I aim to eat more. Will you pledge?

All pledges should be made directly to Free Republic. I am not interested in receiving any cash for this. I want you to send your money directly to Free Republic for this endeavor. I beg you, make your pledge to support FR today.

I’m in for $25 if you break 100, and a quarter for each mussel over 100.

As a side bar, we have too many Freeploaders on Free Republic.

If every regular gave $5/month, we could probably dismantle the rats in a year.

Our youngest son a skinny guy, gets sick if he doesn’t eat 5000 calories a day. He rides his bikes over 10 K each year.

We had a new restaurant open with mussels as a main appetizer or entree. This son and his niece, our 11 year old grand daughter with the same metabolism about put Grampa into poverty with their mussel consumption.

Fortunately, the owner and head chef felt sorry for me and comped me for some the mussels devoured by these two. There were similiar skinny devourers at a couple of other tables, and in total they ran the restaurant out of mussels.

while I would certainly not want to encourage excess, I do like to encourage the strange and unusual. I therefore will up the ante:

in addition to my $1 per critter pledge, I also pledge:

an additional $50 if you reach 125
an additional $50 if you reach 150
an additional $50 if you reach 175
an additional $50 if you reach 200

just to be clear, assuming The Musselman eats 200 mussels, if my calculations are correct I will be sending a check for $400 to FR first thing Monday AM.

if my calculations are incorrect let me know.

If my math skills serve, we are about $3.00/mussel at this point. Thanks to those that have pledged. I have been preparing for this the past couple of days by stuffing myself every chance I get to stretch the gut muscle. Today, I have gone into fasting so I will be good and hungry when I face the foe tomorrow.

I haven't had anyone take me up on the offer of a free meal for being the independent verifier, though. In any event, I will have my laptop with me, and my wife will be taking pics/video! If I can find a place to host a webcam stream, I will fire up the cam while I chow down as well.
