Groups opposed to Arizona's tough new immigration law said Tuesday that they were planning "civil disobedience" on July 29, the day the legislation takes effect.
Alfredo Gutierrez, organizer with the group Somos America and a former state senator, declined to specify what the "civil disobedience" would be, but emphasized it will be nonviolent.
Gutierrez characterized the protests as acts of defiance and hope for the Hispanic community.
The groups plan to hold a candlelight vigil at the state capitol downtown, march to a nearby church at 4:30 a.m. for a nondenominational service and then to the federal courthouse, they said.
"One should understand the actions on the 29th are, to a great degree, actions we take to inspire our own community, give hope to our own community, against those who want us to leave the state, against those who are doing anything possible to separate our families, tear apart our communities," Gutierrez said. "We will disavow these laws, and we will do everything possible on a nonviolent basis to change these laws."
A federal judge could decide to block the law from taking effect pending the seven legal challenges it faces. The groups said they will still demonstrate if that happens before July 29.
The groups also urged people to refrain from buying anything on July 29 as an economic protest of the law.
Great. Illegals and their enablers plan to break more laws.
Watch them tear up things, smash things ... but it’s the Tea Party people who get maligned by the MSM when they get peacefully get together ....
That’s why right-to-carry was passed in the 1st place in AZ..just for this day.
I think I’ll disavow our tax laws. Think I’d get away with it?
Funny, illegal aliens are already conducting an act of civil disobedience.
I once tried paying my taxes with a smile...
the IRS still wanted money.
Well unlike the May Day marches, there won’t be any illegals taking place in this one, lol.
If I had a business there, Id get some friends and sit in the lobby that day with loaded guns. Walk on down the block Pedro, walk on by.
Great!
a) this will give Az the perfect opportunity to check status
b) none of this makes a whiff b/c if the law is stricken, Az can just enforce the federal law.
c) Az can next sue to require that sanctuary cities have that same fed law enforced. We can’t have a patchwork of laws ya know.
This AZ thing is a win=win
Can’t they just counter sue now?
Why is a law *tough?*
It is either legal or it is not.
Anything that resricts the Liberal Agenda is tough.
“The groups also urged people to refrain from buying anything on July 29 as an economic protest of the law.”
I’ll make it a point to buy extra everything that day, a-hole.
Who couldn’t see this coming?
Just curious where is the Great Unifier when these reports come out?
I guess they’re not “acting stupidly” huh?
I'd like someone to ask Gutierrez why so many Hispanics think they are above the law.
I wish I could be there. I would have someone make blow up posters of the headless and mutilated bodies on the Glenn Beck site.
Yeah right? Me too. I have met some very nice, friendly hispanics but that doesn’t negate the fact that a large percentage of them feel they are entitled for some reason and that, coupled with the Mexican invasion plus the fact that my personal youthful encounters (including one very traumatic which is personal) didn’t end up so well including a so-called best friend who also happened to be Mexican, stabbed me in the back after I had done nothing but defend, and be a loyal friend to her kinda turns me off on them as a people!!!
Sry that came out wrong, I’m actually not prejudiced, I respect the individual until they do me wrong. There was a time though that I did feel a little animosity towards them as a whole because of my bad experiences, however being a Christian I cannot and do not allow that to fester anymore.
