Obama: It's All About the Perks
Townhall.com ^ | July 21, 2010 | Ben Shapiro

Posted on 07/21/2010 6:15:40 AM PDT by Kaslin

Remember that guy you went to high school with? You know, the one with the rich parents. The one who drove a Porsche to school and wore the slickest clothing. The one with a pool in the backyard and the Xbox and the tennis court.

You thought he was a jerk then. He's still a jerk now.

Only now, he's president of the United States. His parents didn't buy him the SUV and the tickets to the concerts and the jet rides to New York. You did.

As the rest of the country suffers through a real unemployment rate of about 20 percent according to certain estimates, President Obama takes jaunts to Maine with his family -- and he makes sure to fly his dog, Bo, into town on a separate jet. He holds concerts at the White House, where he and Michelle get to watch Nathan Lane make gay jokes and Elaine Stritch croak out her signature tunes while averring, "I'd love to get drunk with the president." In case you didn't catch President Obama's last White House concert, make sure to tune into PBS on July 28 for a replay of his June 2 event featuring Sir Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Elvis Costello, the Jonas Brothers, Herbie Hancock and Faith Hill, among others.

According to press reports, President Obama has played 41 rounds of golf since his accession to office. He's played seven of those rounds since April 20, when the Gulf oil spill occurred. How many rounds of golf have you played since the beginning of the recession in July 2008?

Probably not many. Because you work for a living. President Obama, by contrast, perks for a living. And he's constantly shocked that those of us who do work expect others to work for a living, too.

That's why he sees no problem whatsoever in feasting on ice cream and lobster in Bar Harbor, while lecturing Republicans about their cruelty in holding up yet another extension of "unemployment benefits" (that phrase gets scare quotes once you've been on the unemployment rolls for two years). That's why Obama makes conspicuous consumption his lifestyle, even as he scoffs at the exploding national debt. He's enjoying the good life; why shouldn't you? He's not working; why should you? Let those benighted conservative businesspeople sweat it out -- President Obama is inviting you to a free taxpayer-funded vacation.

That's just the kind of Man Of The People he is. He never had to do a thing of value for his $5 million per year earnings, his Tony Rezko-brokered property in Illinois, and his current Oval Office gratuities. Why should you have to do something simply to pay your rent? Stick with him, kid, and you'll never go hungry again.

That's why it's great to be Obama's buddy -- a union member, a liberal African-American, a pro-illegal immigration Hispanic, a Wall Street crony. You know that Obama will lend you a buck or two. He's just like that high school kid with the Rolex: If you hang out with him long enough, kiss his posterior and talk about what a terrific guy he is, you're bound to enter his clique. And once you do, the benefits flow forth from daddy's checkbook.

But at least the high school sleazeball had to answer to Daddy; if Daddy saw the depleting bank account, he'd take away the credit card. Obama has no daddy. He's the teenage kid with no credit limit -- and all the responsible adults have been shipped out of town on a rail.

It's not that the president of the United States isn't allowed a little down time. It's that he finds it so easy to slack off using our money, while the rest of us bear down. But that's the story of his life: he's always lived on our dime. There's only one problem: all leeches need a live body to suck dry. If we're all leeches, we all die.

But Obama's not worried about that. That's thinking long term, which has apparently been banned along with trans fats and affordable ammunition. Instead, Obama wants increased focus on those who are suffering now. Specifically, Obama wants increased focus on how they, too, can become permanent barnacles on the buttocks of society.

We should have seen it coming. Obama's not just the first mixed-race president. He's the First Moocher. And he's all for equality of opportunity when it comes to mooching.

Lets not forget his ‘night outs’ to distant cities and the infamous NYC fly over that looked like Sept 11 Part II from the ground. The article is so on the money and says much about Barry’s work ethic and ideas of what the Presidency and Presidential authority is all about.

You know, the ones that care so much about the workers and masses that they make all the decisions as to what is best for their lives while feeling no necessity to apply the same standards to their own.

It's good to be king.

The ruling class in Washington has never been richer, yet they sit on their thrones and demand we spread our meager wages around to make it fair.
We need a Constitutional Amendment. Any social program cost has to be paid for by the elite with their own money first to prove they "really care" before one dollar is taken from the American worker. Their pet projects do not represent the majority, so the responsibility should be theirs alone.
It was their leadership that destroyed the schools, the family, the health care, businesses, banks, et. Make THEM pay for their own mistakes. They've got plenty of cash. We had nothing to do with their mistakes or agendas.

"He never had to do a thing of value for his $5 million per year earnings, his Tony Rezko-brokered property in Illinois, and his current Oval Office gratuities."

Yet people still buy the bull about him being a "community organizer" who care about the "little guy".

When he was getting his slice of the pie he didn't look for a place in the 'hood among those who blindly support him because he's "a clean, articulate black man" to paraphrase Joe Biden.

He bought a mansion in whitey's neighborhood, as you said, brokered by the documented crook, Tony Rezko (who also financed his political campaigns from the beginning of his stranger-than-fiction rise to power and wealth).

Well, that’s the life of our first historic sock puppet. He was hired to make appearances and speeches, not to really govern. Before his affirmative action hiring, his minions talked about how we would rule this country. There are a lot of comparisons to an African dictator with this doofus. And we can’t forget about the shrine that used to be the White House. There are lots of pictures of obama hung all over the entrance of our house. Even the locoweed ed shultz thought that was over the top.
He may have the title, but he is only the guy who plays president on tv.

Being rich is not a crime. It's how you handle yourself in respect to others. Class envy is played skillfully to those "without" by the Left.

Age of Psychopathy by Michael Eigen:
"We are in the midst of an Age of Psychopathy, with the present years being one of its high points. Loosely speaking, a psychopath is someone with a deficient conscience. Someone for whom guilt is a dirty word or irrelevant, except as a tool to manipulate others. Guilt about hurting others does not seem to be enough to stop the psychopath from trying to get his way. Guiltless exploitation and exercise of power wreaks more and more havoc the higher up the dominance scale one goes. Those at the heads of banks, big business, and government have the lives of millions in their hands."

Call it the making of a psychopathic political Frankenstein-Obama.

Personally, whether Obama or McCain got elected we would have still been in a bad situation as they are spoiled to “the hill” and both birds of a feather. Barry was absent more than present but liberals were too into “the smart educated change man” to see anything about his record. The media made everyone and themselves stupid voters.

While listening to a town hall meeting last night of a “conservative” Congressman, a lady who was a business owner was talking about how hard it was getting to keep her business open due to government regulations and upcoming healthcare costs. Well, the CC’s reply was something like this.. “Just call my office and we have a staff that might can help you out with that as there are many programs and funds available for small businesses.” THIS is the problem. Handouts to everyone as the debt mounts on everyone’s back. It won’t get better getting a handout as this is not a conservative approach. Same office where I asked what happens to all the Medicare/Medicaid Hover-arounds when someone dies and why they are not government property. I got a form letter that didn’t answer my question. And, he’s the most conservative in the November race.

We’ve lost our Christianity, morals and integrity so it’s downhill from here.

"But that's the story of his life: he's always lived on our dime. "

Even his much-touted "community organizer" efforts were paid for by taxpayers.

The only thing of any substance he has on his resume (he was a lousy state senator and never served as U.S. senator because he began running for President as soon as he got to Washington) is his so-called community organizing.

He was going to teach job skills and self-reliance.

Baloney.

All he did was help people become more dependent on government handouts..."redistribution of wealth" by taking from those who earned it and giving it to those who didn't.

No wonder unrealistic deadbeats love the guy.

Perhaps he needs to be known as Perquisitus Maximus?

Perq, shortened form of Perquisite
per·qui·site/ˈpɜrkwəzɪt/
–noun
1. an incidental payment, benefit, privilege, or advantage over and above regular income, salary, or wages: Among the president's perquisites were free use of a company car and paid membership in a country club.
2. a gratuity or tip.
3. something demanded or due as a particular privilege: homage that was once the perquisite of royalty.

Origin: 1400–50; late ME < ML perquīsītum something acquired, n. use of neut. of L perquīsītus (ptp. of perquīrere to search everywhere for, inquire diligently).

perquisite. Dictionary.com. Dictionary.com Unabridged. Random House, Inc. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/perquisite (accessed: July 21, 2010).

Hmmm..diligent? Maybe not...except in the grabbing of more, More, MORE!

The article isn't about envying his lifestyle. It's about the outrage that he doesn't work, encourages others who don't work, all while punishing those who are productive. Like a distant king on a throne, he ignores the real issues in favor of giving perks to his friends... perks that come from taking from "we, the People". THAT is the galling aspect. It has nothing to do with wanting more concerts, golf outings, or vacations for ourselves.

(But good use of the word "screed"!)

Zippo needs racial confrontation.

What Zippo is doing with his extravagant, in your face, lifestyle is race baiting straight out of the 1960’s.

In the 60’s there was a common racial term used for people that once they got a little money in their pocket they went hog wild with it.

Zippo is trying to get his opposition to use that racial term to describe his extravagant spending.

If he can get his opposition to use that term to describe his extravagant spending, then anyone that opposes Zippo’s extravagant spending can be labeled a racist.

Of course Diane didn't mention that two days before he arrived our Pres flew his dog and dog handler who makes $100,000+ a year salary in his own private jet to spend the day in Maine with his family.

the founders knew it too:

You can't analyze this guy, or anyone from the left for that matter, without keeping that in mind.

The Clinton's did the same thing. Before Clinton took office in 93, people made jokes that the hillbillies from Arkansas would probably rent out the Lincoln bedroom. So the Clinton's did it. Class warfare.

Thank you for enunciating the topic of the lesson, but I was addressing its details. If the author just said what you did, there would be no article. What he said on the way to he his main point is an expression, elaborate enough not to be accidental, of class envy. I have gone through the trouble of reproducing specific quotes to which I then replied; sorry you missed all of those.

You happen to confirm my last remark. Your eye did not pick any cause for alarm, because "going off" on the rich (who are all jerks, according to the author) is so normal. D--n the "fat cats," bankers, CEO crooks.

Which is why I said what I did: when "conservatives" don't have a problem with these Marxist mantra and even repeat them, it is little wonder that we have a neo-communist in the White House.
