Berry: Obama 'fears' Fox By: Seung Min Kim July 21, 2010 12:07 PM EDT
A former chairwoman for the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights slammed the Obama administration on Wednesday for caving in to conservative news outlets in the Shirley Sherrod case.
Mary Frances Berry, who was appointed by President Jimmy Carter and led the commission during the Clinton administration, accused the Obama administration of overreacting by firing Sherrod, who left the USDA after video of her comments at an NAACP dinner remarks later shown to be distorted surfaced.
We now know for sure that the Obama administration fears Fox and right-wing media more than making sure they have the facts, she said in POLITICOs Arena. We can also see clearly why, though an African-American president is a symbolic boon to blacks, he is unwilling to focus on the joblessness which disproportionately affects African-Americans. To do so risks being labeled racist.

Much like Bush caved to the Black Caucus during the Lott mess..
And again..the media will focuse on Sherrod, not the agreeing responses she received during her disturbing story.
were the remarks really taken out of context?
i see this claim all over but have yet to see it substantiated.
Politico remains the online tool of the ComPost and as such I for one have no more use for it (less, actually: I could light fires with the ComPost).
There is a name from the past- I remember when she was the incompetent race pimp president of the unidiversity of Colorado - how many millions of race pimp dollars has this old woman milked out of the system over the past 30 years?
Don’cha love the left “obama screwed up- but FOX made him do it”
Obama fears the truth and any news outlet that dares to deliver it.
Nope..neither was the giddy reaction from the group as she bragged about her bad behavior
Breitbart and Fox tossed some firecrackers into the enemy camp, and started a firefight inside it. Get some popcorn.
Oh,yes,I know that to be very true!
And I wouldn’t start a fire with the ComPost,either...it stinks bad enough unburned!!
It depends. To say she's currently a racist can be countered by the fact that she said she has now learned to look at things by rich/poor instead of white/black as she did in the past.
But she does flat-out admit to having let race influence her decisions as a government employee, leading her to provide an admittedly lower level of service to white people based on their race. No amount of shouting "out of context" can erase that basic fact.
Mary Frances Berry another racist POS heard from.
“But she does flat-out admit to having let race influence her decisions as a government employee, leading her to provide an admittedly lower level of service to white people based on their race. No amount of shouting “out of context” can erase that basic fact.” - AR
Thanks - then there is nothing distorted abput the video.
It sounds like they way the leftists treated the fameos and accurate “Jennifer Flowers” tape.
What are we to believe them (leftists) or our lying eyes/ears?
Heh heh...don’t take a paper, so don’t run the risk either. We get the local rag for free on Wednesdays because of the coupons & church announcements. That’s enough for me.
I read a bit on Berry’s background and past controversies all the way back to the Carter days. It is amazing that she continues to hold a place in any adminstration.
And nothing can erase the current NAACP cheering for her providing that lower level of service based on race.
Maybe so (in the sense that later she changed from racist to classist).. but the reaction of the NAACP audience was NOT distorted. It was definitely a feeling of pleasurable stimulation hearing that some white guy got his comeuppance. To me that is most important.
Isn’t she the one who refused to vacate her desk when W came in with his new broom?
Taken in whole context, and favorably to the speaker, it could be considered to be an inspirational speech from a reformed racist. I could actually go for this angle. I could even forgive the actions of a reformed racist 24 years ago if she is now truly working to end that racism. She would be a success story for others to follow.
OTOH that goes against the current spin, which was that she didn’t do anything racist. She tries to explain around “so I didn’t give him the full force of what I could do.” But it’s right there: she treated them differently because of their race.
They’re also trying to play up that the white family in question doesn’t feel wronged. But that’s not the point, which is that she let her racism influence her actions as a representative of the United States government. We also don’t know how many other times this happened.
I still think FOX should of did a Rope-a-Dope on this one and did the exact opposite of what Obama thought they would do. Instead of going after the “racist in the cabinet” story, they should of ran with the scandal around the firing, which is the bigger and more damaging story.
Dictators ALWAYS fear that the truth will come out.
What Breitbart needs to do here is come in with a master stroke by pointing out the real issue isn’t Sherrod, but the reactions of the NAACP people in the audience giving total support for what she did.
Obama fears the truth.
Some from O-litico have called it fairly, but most of them are Obama leg-tinglers. The Hill does the same but more of them are already disillusioned Dems.
the only reason to fear a Fox....is if you’re a CHICKEN!
I was thinking a while back that if the races in question were reversed, the white crowd would have booed her if it were anything other than a KKK rally.
I still think FOX should of did a Rope-a-Dope on this one and did the exact opposite of what Obama thought they would do
And since Obama has no idea what else Breitbart has got in his goody bag he is totally paralyzed
I was thinking a while back that if the races in question were reversed, the white crowd would have booed her if it were anything other than a KKK rally.
Totally agree. I think any Tea Party member would be totally disgusted if a white bureaucrat bragged about sticking it to a black citizen.
Sadly, there are few who choose to do so!!
Obama’s living in a house of cards, and Fox has has a pocketful of marbles.
We gain by linking to them because they are among the more literate and sensible writers on the left. They give good heads-up and we profit by knowing what’s brewing in the cauldrons over there.
I agree with your description of Berry. She is in fact a race pimp and a racist. I would hope never to hear her name again.
Beck, BOR, Britt Hume, Hannity and others at FNC have been successful at developing “inside” sources on many stories, all to the dismay of the dem/libs. The libs know that unless they can keep their true intent and plans away from the public’s eyes, they are as sunk as was eventually Wilson and FDR. Nobama knows that he can not keep secret liberal stuff secret very long, there just too many ways to research through internet and through Fox sources like Brietbart and Beck’s Re-Founders and from lots of people who see things they know need to be exposed and know FNC will listen.
All this noise and race-baiting is going to get much louder leading up to the election, the lib/dems know they are on the bottom of a life or death situation and will do any and everything to save themselves. Just like a drowning man, he’ll pull his rescuer down with him out of blind terror.
Actually no, she said what she said. Later in the speech she said that this and other lessons showed her that it was not black/white but rich/poor that divides us. She did a racist thing but learned from it .... sort of like "Sheets" Byrd.
Funny that Beck was one of the first calling for her reinstatement.
Wonder how long it will be before they order the FCC to pull the FOX license?
Along with this, stay tuned to Tucker Carlson’s report on “reporters”...
Not to me it isn’t.
This is what America does in the name of diversity and political correctness.
