Where are the Stories on Afghanistan Losses?
Vanity | July 21,2010 | Vanity

Where are the stories on Afghanistan, particularly our soldiers and their increasing casualties? I read where we have had 750 soldiers killed in that country since Obama's term began. If this were a Republican president in office, I can only imagine the relentless coverage of this story....soldiers faces on Time Magazine covers, "serious" and in-depth coverage by the NYT, Newsweek and others. Instead, we are feted to MSM elaborate explanations of identity and racial politics a la the Sherrod incident, Arizona law stories and the like. I am no newsperson, but I can certain prioritize what is important in terms of news stories as a matter of national significance.

The MSM is desperate to find something to talk about besides Afghanistan or The oiled Gulf or the New Depression.

Race, Immigration, BP, Climate Change, those are the big stories citizen.

My local newspaper the Staten Island Advance keeps a tally on how many soldiers died in both Iraq and Afghanistan. They get some kind of perverse pleasure posting this scorecard on the front page of the Sunday paper.

Did the Afghanistan War story go down the journOlist rabbit hole. Seems so.

And here I thought Afghanistan was the real war, the pone the journOlists liked, not the Bush War.

JounrOListers had a little online meet up to get the story straight.

It’s really weird they would continue doing it, now everyone knows.

There is no credibility left in journOlists.

It’s revolting to go here http://www.defense.gov/releases/
and then see images of the Commander in Chief licking ice cream cones, giggling
and singing Broadway show tunes.
Between golf games, basketball games , Reggie Love manlove time and spa visits.

Apparently there are larger civilian support forces in Afganistan than troops, and the losses are apparently higher than for the military. True?
