Police: 'Blue Meth' Latest Marketing Tool for Dealers (Drug Dealers copy Breaking Bad)

INDEPENDENCE, MO - Police across the metro say that they are seeing a new drug fad that they say may have been inspired by a television show, and the rise in 'blue meth" may be putting more green in drug dealers pockets.

Area police say that 'blue meth' has been appearing across the metro area, with KCMO Police making four meth arrests in the Northland in the past three weeks. Police in Independence also say that they have been seeing the drug, which they say may have been popularized by the TV program "Breaking Bad," about a chemistry teacher turned meth cook.

"They have blue meth in that show and we believe the popularity is coming from the show," said Justin Leach of the Independence Police Department. "Normal meth is usually about $1000 an ounce, and they're paying up to $1,500 an ounce for this meth."

Police doubt blue meth is any more pure than regular crystal meth. They say that users are being told that the blue meth is stronger or more pure, but police say that the main difference may just be food coloring.

Madison Avenue marketing gimmicks hit the street! It was inevitable in this down economy, as more and more people swore the monkey off their back for fiscal reasons.

Darn it.

If you can’t trust drug dealers, who can you trust?

this is one issue on which the libertarians are right. if this were legal no way it would be commanding 1500 an ounce.

that said, we should go back to some form of means test for voting rights. They must be a full citizen in good standing. (no illegals or ex-cons) They must not be on welfare (people with an interest voting for more welfare shouldn’t be permitted that option)

Tommy James & the Shondells Crytal Blue persuasion - Youtube Video

Cute reference, but not quite the same... (*smile*)

Crystal Blue Persuasion - Wikipedia

The title of the song came to James while he was reading The Bible's Book of Revelation, according to James in a 1985 interview in Hitch magazine:

I took the title from the Book of Revelations[sic] in the Bible, reading about the New Jerusalem. The words jumped out at me, and they're not together; they're spread out over three or four verses. But it seemed to go together, it's my favorite of all my songs and one of our most requested.

However, according to James's manager, James was actually inspired by his reading of the Book of Ezekiel where it speaks of the Blue Shekinah Light which represented the presence of the Almighty God and the Books of Isaiah and Revelation where it speaks of a bright future of a brotherhood of mankind living in peace and harmony.

Many listeners thought "Crystal Blue Persuasion" was a drug song advocating the use of "crystal meth" (Methamphetamine). In 1979, noted music writer Dave Marsh described it as "a transparent allegory about James' involvement with amphetamines." However, until the Controlled Substances Act ... was enacted into law by the Congress of the United States as ... the Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act of 1970, most illicit amphetamine use involved the more readily available pharmaceutical grade pill form rather than the then-rare "crystal meth" form. It was after the pill form became harder to obtain on the street... that "crystal meth" rose in popularity. Thus it is unlikely that "Crystal Blue Persuasion", being written before 1970, would refer to "crystal meth".

How proud the makers of the show must be. Of course we will get the "movies and TV don't inspire anything, except like good stuff" hot air.

Don't get me wrong, I don't blame shows that inspire for anything beyond just that--inspiring--but it is so tired how folks who make these shows pretend they had no idea, none, that when they make crime and violence look cool ("Badass!") they're actually doing a disservice.

After having people recommend this show to me for ages I finally saw it last week and thoroughly enjoyed it. But it has this subtext of "This awful capitalistic system is so awful that the only way a guy can get proper healthcare is by breaking the law" and "Everyone is guilty" that I found incredibly irritating.

>>> Crystal blue persuasion.

This is more to the point. The intro to one second season episode, featuring a Mexican narcocorrido band. It’s actually pretty good. These men can play.

So basically making meth is like making gold. I can see why it's such a problem now.
