Rep. Charlie Rangel charged with ethics violations

WASHINGTON — A House investigative committee on Thursday charged New York Rep. Charles Rangel with multiple ethics violations, a blow to the former Ways and Means chairman and an election-year headache for Democrats.

The committee did not immediately specify the charges against the Democrat, who has served in the House for some 40 years and is fourth in House seniority. The announcement by a four-member panel of the House ethics committee sends the case to a House trial, where a separate eight-member panel of Republicans and Democrats will decide whether the violations can be proved by clear and convincing evidence.

Did anyone else see the interview on ‘
Morning Joe’ this morning that they started the show with?

A Press gaggle had surrounded Ramngel and started asking him questions. And then one asked him what he would do if thrown out of Congress? Rangel, taken aback, asked the reporter how di the reporter think he got into office/ and then asked him how he expected that he would get trmoved from his office? The reporter rtrepnded two ways, your fellow members could toss you out, or...Rangelf face went apoplectic...Or the voters could vote him out.

Rangel asked the reporter what network he was from, (I knew what he thought, I was thinking it myself, that the reporter was with FNC or some other right leaning outlet. ready to lace into him.) and I swear my jaw dropped with his, as the reporter said he was with NBC!!! Rangel went on yto say “Well now you see whats happening with a network that *used* to have some respectability!”

This is not a verbatim account, just as I remember the salient points.

I gotta see that again! Rangel could not have been more non-plussed, nor revealing in his reactions.

Charlie Rangel is not bothered about this , because he knows nothing will happen to him.

Charlie has been there a long time, he knows where all of the skeletons are hidden. What he doesnt know someone else in the CBC does.

Charlie will come out smelling like a rose.

The Bill Ayrse statement of Guilty as sine and free as a bird will apply fully here.

There isn’t an honest politician in the whole of Washington DC.

Did anyone else see how surprised Rangel was that NBC was actually asking him a tough question? He remarked something to the effect that NBC USED to be a good “channel”. I doubt Rangel would vote for subsidies for the NBC “channel”.

The reporter was MSNBC's Luke Russert, (Tim Russert's son), who wasn't intimidated by Charlie's antics. The video is featured here on Rachel Maddow's show.

There's an advertisement at the beginning of the clip.

Rachel Maddow show.

Fwiw, Maddow seems to enjoy sticking to Charlie , since Charlie is a A-1 jackass in the video.

And old Cholly accused Luke Russert of acting stupidly.

LOL

Guess the left has decided that Adam Clayton Powell (IV)? would be a more suitable replacement for Cholly.

Actually, I doubt if he’s falling on his sword. But the notion of the Administration that “white” America will be placated by his willingness to throw a black person under the bus for ‘extra credit’ is cynical and naive.
