Rep. Charles Rangel says it would be unpatriotic of him to resign amid ethics scandal

Embattled Rep. Charles Rangel said Saturday it would be unpatriotic to resign rather than fight his pending ethics charges - despite a call that he do so to save the Democratic party.

"Well, it wouldn't be the American thing to do \[to step aside\]. I think I owe it to the process to find out first what the investigative committee finds out," Rangel told reporters after speaking at Harlem Hospital.

The 80-year-old legendary lawmaker is accused of failing to pay taxes, abusing rent-control rules and trading donations for favors. A public federal trial on Thursday will determine his fate after a two year investigation.

Next to “Dirtbag” in the dictionary I found Rangel’s portrait.

Rangel thinks it's patriotic to cheat on his taxes and stay on office

Rangel's going to help a lot of conservatives get elected... I hope he's in every ad run in the North East...

After reading numerous reports on this affair, it seems that the dems have been trying to broker a deal with ole Charlie for some time now - months at least, and he has refused all of the deals.

He clearly thinks that there is something to be gained by this stonewalling or he wouldn’t do it, so it will be interesting to see what plays out in the coming weeks & months.

let him fight it out. in fact, he should force the house to vote before the dems lose their majority in the house . . . it would be a useful spectacle to have before the election.

Rangel wouldn’t know patriotism if it hit him over the head. The man is a disgrace and a traitor.

Go Charley GO!

This is some dirty laundry that needs to be aired and who better to air it than a guy that knows where “ALL” of the skeletons are buried.

Hope the trial lasts till September and Obama’s Birth Certificate somehow gets mentioned...

TT

Chrarles The Cheater Rangel has proven he is unpatriotic as they come by circumventing the tax laws he put in place to hurt the AMerican people. He should be shot for treason.

I’m sure Uncle Charlie is thrilled that he will finally get to present his case in a fair, public forum!

Pack plenty of clean undies, Charlie.

The thing that still bothers me is why did this happen to Charlie now, after many years of bad behavior, playing fast and loose with the law, etc.

What makes him the focus of this attention now, rather than six years ago? Or sixteen years ago? What changed? Who did he tick off?

As pointed in another thread, Charlie is paying his lawyers with campaign funds thus he has to keep running and win, so he can keep paying them with other people's money. It was reported that so far his lawyers bill is up to $1.7 million.

Actually, knocking the Democrat Party down a few notches for this election is a pretty patriotic thing to do. Thanks, Chuck!

Does it really matter, the 80-year-old legendary crook will never get what he deserves. Even if they find him guilty he will go off laughing with his millions.

“we need to keep as many logs on the fire as we can until Nov.

Let him drag this all the way out I say.”

I couldn’t agree more. I like having Charlie wandering the halls of congress under the black cloud of continuous and ongoing ethics investigations. I like the expose articles where they find out more dishonest crap he’s done, and I like the interviews where he says really stupid stuff.
