Rangel: Resigning now would be un-American By Bridget Johnson - 07/24/10 04:19 PM ET

Embattled Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) said Saturday it would be un-American of him to resign in the face of a looming ethics trial.

The Hill first reported Friday night that Rep. Betty Sutton (D-Ohio) had called on Rangel to step down, the first sitting House Democrat to do so.

The New York Daily News reported Saturday that Rangel, speaking to reporters at Harlem Hospital, brushed off the call to give up his seat.

"Well, it wouldn't be the American thing to do," he said. "I think I owe it to the process to find out first what the investigative committee finds out."

"...I really never heard of that concept that if someone accuses you of something, why don't you just step aside so you don't embarrass anybody and admit to something that you don't believe is true."

Rangel also addressed why he didn't settle the case, which would have avoided a trial but forced the congressman to admit ethics violations.

"I don't know how I can make a deal when no one knows what they've found," he said.

Don’t go , Charlie, don’t go. We want to point to you as a corrupt, cheating, thieving, lying Democrat. After November 2nd, you may leave.

As I said on another thread, Rangel crossed someone — I don’t know who — if they are coming after him now. He’s been getting away with his corruption for years, so why are theyu coming after him now?

Resigning would certainly be un-democrat.

&&
Even if he resigns, he’s still set for life; he’s made lots as a member of Congress, and he’ll still have his pension.

No, Charlie, if you resigned it would be the most pro-American thing you do in your whole life.

Note: the page (on the Workers World Party website) with this photo has recently been removed.

But here's other evidence of his speaking at the event:

"Among the many speakers were elected representatives—U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel and New York City Council members Charles Barron and Margarita Lopez—who have bucked their party to come out against the war. Barron has also introduced a Troops Out Now resolution in the City Council."--Workers World Party

Re: communist attorney/terrorist defender, Lynne Stewart...

Same Troops Out Now/Workers World Party event as above where Charlie Rangel attended and spoke. It marked the 2nd anniversary of the start of the Iraq war (March 19, 2005). Note the "OutNow.org" (TroopsOutNow.org)

Reember what happened to Tom DeLay? He hasn't even been tried yet after 4 years, the Dem prosecutor in Texas can't win the case. The accusations about Rangel are more comprehensive, yet he remains? The dem black caucus is paraitic, remember Jefferson from Louisiana? The broccoli bag man? The Repoblicans saved The black caucus A$$ by denying FBI access to his Congressopnal office, they could have rolled up the entire African kick back payment operation.

The whole Congress is dirty, until proven otherwise, the people have no representation, most of them are felons.

This allows the Qbama junta to get its way through extorting them.Rangel would not go along. His destiny may be to take his grave beside Sec. Commerce Ron Brown. Maybe he will sing like a canary before.

Veeeeeeeeery interesting Charlie:
"I think I owe it to the process to find out first what the investigative committee finds out."

"I don't know how I can make a deal when no one knows what they've found"

Now if I'm a prosecutor those statements are gonna make my ears perk up and I'm going to start digging, DEEPER(1). As 'Cadillac Charlie' doesn't say he's not guilty, or hasn't done anything illegal - just that he doesn't know what they have on him.

Ergo, this guy has mucho skeletons in his political closet. It's not just that 'little' Income Tax thing he's worried about.

(1) just like when Blago's FIL (Ald Dick Mell) called him a crook on the floor of the Chicago City Counsel. That's when the Feds started tapping his phones. It wasn't about Barry's senate seat. That was just gravy.

I agree with Charlie...a drawn out public airing of the charges and a display of the arrogance and corruption infesting Washington is what we need leading up to the Nov. elections. Give em hell Charlie...
