Senate Democrats who think they can use a lame-duck session to force the country into a final, decisive lurch to the left may be in for a big surprise: newly elected senators ready to take their seats and derail major policy changes before the new Congress convenes.
There are now six unelected members of the U.S. Senate; they represent Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, New York, and West Virginia. The rules governing the seating of senators elected to replace appointed senators are left to the states in the 17th amendment.......
Two states are clearly opportunities for the GOP to pick up Senate seats immediately: Delaware and West Virginia. Both are special elections for a portion of unexpired terms Vice President Joe Bidens last four years and the late Sen. Robert C. Byrds two....
Go Christine, Go!
Christine is no better than even to win Del, and no way in WVA. We need a Rep majority to control committees, esp Judiciary. Castle is a definite favorite - let’s not blow it.
That would be a double victory, knocking out Castle and putting in a real conservative!
It is not worth electing Castle!
Pro-Constitution - Pro-National Defense - Pro-Life - Pro-Second Amendment - Pro-States Rights - Pro-Border Security - Pro-Free Market - Pro-Freedom - Anti-High Taxes - Anti-Big Government - Anti-ObamaCare.(Aren't these the values we said we are looking for?)
CASTLE????.....CASTLE ???...u mean the one that's rated most liberal of all RINO’s.....That Castle???
put the bong down and do a lil research...
“Two states are clearly opportunities for the GOP to pick up Senate seats immediately: Delaware and West Virginia. Both are special elections for a portion of unexpired terms.”
I don’t mean to burst your bubble, but there’s only a VERY SLIM chance the GOP is going to pick up a seat in West Virginia. I don’t know where you got your information. The sitting Gov. Joe Manchin is running for the seat and has a 75% approval rating. He’s a moderate to conservative Democrat and is very popular. John Raese is running for the GOP nomination and would be a good senator but I don’t see any way Manchin loses this election. Sorry, call me a troll, whatever. I don’t care. I’m just being a realist here. Don’t count on West Virginia. It’s an uphill battle to say the least. The state’s top GOP lawmaker, Rep. Shelly Moore Capito, even dropped out of the race. Polls were showing she was losing to Manchin by 13-15 percent. Anything can happen and I wish Raese well (or whoever gets the GOP senate nomination in the special election) but I don’t see it happening.
You are not bursting my bubble. I simply posted the article which lists the contests where a Republican who will oppose Obama can stop his agenda in a lame duck session. Delaware is such a state. And I am involved here. There are two Republicans running in a 9/14 primary. If the RINO, Mike Castle wins, it does not matter what happens in November because he will support the Obama agenda as surely as his Dem opponent. However, if Christine O'Donnell wins we can stop a lame duck power grab. Help her out if you can.
Last time I looked the so called "republican" Kirk was trailing by a small margin. The ultra liberal bastard won't win with my vote.
Left out some info:
Kirk is the candidate in Illinois.
I like the picture.
I like it that she wears her own sticker. You’d be surprised how many politicians show up to events where everybody but the candidate is wearing one.
>>>Castle is a definite favorite - lets not blow it.<<<
Castle is whose favorite? Cap and Traders, Squashers of Grassroots efforts, Gun Controllers, Lawyers, Big Bankers, Unions - NO THANKS! Over the last year and a half he has supported Obama’s legislation 6 out of every 10 votes (When the Democrats need him, he is right there for them)- relies on George Soros sponsored groups for his guidance - like CAP (Center for American Progress) - FinReg, etc, etc. etc.
Not for me - We have ONE chance Sept. 14th to do the right thing -
I have been thinking about this situation - and the more I think about it, I keep coming back to King Solomon - In deciding between two women who both claimed a child. When faced with the decision to split the baby in half to satisfy everyone, the real mother gave up her right so that the child would live. Maybe that’s a reach, but I keep thinking that ‘Real Patriots’ wouldn’t settle for half freedom, but would do whatever they needed to do so that Freedom was assured. Just this OLD Geezer’s strong opinion.
Manchin will win in November, partly by claiming to be a conservative. But, if he wants to win election to a full term in 2012, he’d better be careful about supporting the likes of Harry Reid in a Lefty hissy fit of a lame duck session.
It’s great to be around “true conservatives” - of course, you define what that is. I, too, think cap and trade is garbage. The trouble is, DE is a lib state, and “true conservatives” are a MINORITY.
The most damage BHO can do is in appointing liberal federal judges. How do you like his Supreme Court so far? If the Reps were in the majority, we’d control the Judiciary Committee, and could block some of this. But no, we can only tolerate true conservatives, not 50% conservatives, so we’ll end up with 100% liberals.
We have a golden opportunity to do real damage to the dems. But we’ll blow it, and be on this board the day after the election posting how stupid the country is, all the voting fraud, bla, bla...
At least we won’t have RINOs to complain about.
Don't believe me? Look at how Mark Kirk, who was Ted Kennedy's replacement from MA, continued to vote on issues even after Scott Brown was elected.
Well said!
as is NJ. I noticed something happened there this year. 2010 is an unusual year. I once shared your point of view. However, I learned the lessons of 2006 & 2008, as well as those of 1980 & 1994. When Republicans sell themselves out for expediency, they loose twice. We get our asses kicked when voters cannot tell us apart. If we elected Castle, and he were the single vote that gave The Republicans a senate majority, what would that do? Yes, republicans would be committee chairs. However, Obama would gain "bipartisan" cover for his agenda. Castle's presence would embolden other RINOs like Snowe and Collins who, up until now, have largely voted with the party this cycle. Therefore, electing Castle would actually improve Obama's chances in 2012.
It does not matter anyway because Mike Castle is literally circling the drain. His sorry and shameful political career will end; if not in September, then certainly in November.
That was Paul Kirk Jr. Mark Kirk is the ultra liberal bastard in Illinois, calling himself a republican and is running for the U.S. Senate on the republican ticket.
Let’s pray Christine wins. I know nothing about Castle, except he has an R after his name, which, frankly, is good enough for me.
I live in CA, where Reps have no power, with the odd exception of Arnold, the ultimate RINO. Yet without Arnold, who appoints decent judges (perhaps not a conservative as I’d like, and too many dems) and vetoes many dem bills, we would be far worse off than we are, which is saying a lot. The dems actually introduced single payer, which Arnold said he’d veto. Our RINO is far from perfect, but he’s much better than any dem.
Why are conservative women much more attractive than liberal women?
Just asking. Is it “sexist” or bigoted to ask, or does it reflect sexist thinking about women using comestics, etc.??? Or do we find people more attractive if we are attracted to aspects of their politics and character?
Just wondering. I can think of many conservative women who are quite striking and attractive, and just can’t think of any liberal women with such a nice appearance.
I have often asked that question myself, and many have asked it. A poster here recently offered a possible answer. He (or she) said that the choices people make reflect in their appearance. Conservative women are less likely to have made the kinds of choices that reflect abuse and cynicism. I think this maybe the case. Christine is not nearly as young as she appears.
My bad. At least Paul Kirk Jr. was honest in calling himself a Democrat.
I wouldn’t say “no way for WVA”. John Raese is a very
good, conservative Republican in the race for
the seat opened up Byrd’s demise, and John is loaded
with dough. He came very close to beating Jay Rockefeller
52% to 48%.
I remember the Massachusetts race just wasn’t that long
ago. We seem to forget very quickly.
Strategy seems very obvious, tie Manchin to Pelousy-Reid
and Obama. We hate that unholy trinity in this state.
November will surprise many people, IMHO.

I wish you were right, but I don’t see any way that Raese can win over Joe Manchin. When Raese was running, I tried repeatedly to get him to come and campaign in Mason Co. I never saw hide nor hair of him. No advertising, nothing, and this is a Republican county. As far as I could tell he ran a nothing race, but I voted for him anyway for lack of a better choice.
Take WV off the table of possibilities. There is no viable Pubbie to run against Gov. Manchin, who will be the Dem choice on the ballot for the seat. He is very popular and like I say, there is no GOP candidate. Shelley Capito (the only Pubbie at the national level from WV) opted out.
The WV GOP knew that Robert Byrd could not live forever, yet, they did not bother to groom a candidate to run on the GOP ticket for that seat.
Is Capito running in WV?
What Wins ?
