BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry is docking his family's new $7 million yacht in neighboring Rhode Island, allowing him to avoid paying roughly $500,000 in taxes to his cash-strapped home state.
If the Isabel were kept at the 2008 Democratic presidential nominee's summer vacation home on Nantucket or in Boston Harbor near his city residence, he would be liable for $437,500 in one-time sales tax. He would also have to pay $70,000 in annual excise taxes.

Actually, Kerry’s home state is Colorado.
This story has many “teachable moments” for conservatism
I thought some democrat (Dean?) said it's un-American not to pay taxes.
Tax “cheat” A-Hole !
Ours is a “free” country ... Moving to Nevada, Texas, and ??? is a GREAT way to avoid state income taxes.
Kerry is showing smarts ...
As much as I dislike Kerry, I dislike taxes more.
In 2004 it was reported that Bush contributed approx. 12% of his income (800K) to charity while the Kerry’s contribution was less than 1% of their income (5 million). Nothing Ketchup Boy does suprises me.
Yes, you do make a good point.
Kerry did exactly what he should have done . . . and exactly what he would condemn others for doing.
A Department of Revenue spokesman said Kerry would be liable for Massachusetts taxes if he berthed the boat in the Bay State within six months of its purchase.
What a hypocrite! I say about a year from now Kerry's brand new boat will be moved to Massachusetts, the brand new boat no longer needing "long-term maintenance, upkeep and charter purposes" and in a happy coincidence, Kerry and Mama T will have saved $500,000.
Pay your fair share.
Because I’m not going too. LOL!
But the libs are always for taxes, especially on the rich. You would have thought that he would have docked in Massachusetts specifically to be liable for more taxes.
Is not our only job, as little people,
to supply him chicks for nothing and money for free?
"With $165,400, Sen. Dodd also tops the list of members of Congress who took campaign cash from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac since 1989.
Sen. Barack Obama, the self-styled agent of change, is a distant second at $126,000 and Sen. John Kerry is third at $111,000.
Hypocrites run rampant through Massachusetts politics.Remember this one from last fall?
