A Covington man has been convicted of an armed robbery in Kenner, in which the businessowner shot two of the would-be assailants, killing one of them. German Alberto Hernandez-Zuniga, 25, a native of Honduras, faces up to 99 years in prison in the Jan. 29 robbery of Dream Communications & More, a wireless phone business that also cashed checks in the 3200 block of Willliams Boulevard. He was shot twice by the business owner, who fatally wounded Angel Armando Hernandez, 34, of New Orleans. The Kenner Police Department and prosecutors determined the shooting was justified. "But for his (the owner's) actions, he and his employee would be dead right now," Assistant District Attorney Doug Freese said. "He behaved bravely and appropriately under the circumstances." The owner and an employee were leaving the business with a week's worth of cash receipts in a bag when three masked men approached them in the parking lot. Hernandez, who was armed, grabbed the owner and struck him before grabbing the bag of money, while Hernandez-Zuniga, who was unarmed, and the third man grabbed the employee and attempted to force them into a dark alley, said Freese, who prosecuted the case with Loren Dileo.

The only downside to this story is that the one convicted perp will have three hots and a cot at our expense until he dies, or is paroled. And no mention of the immigration status of these two.

“When seconds count, the police are only minutes away!”

Concealed carry really needs to be the law of the land.

"leaving the business with a week's worth of cash receipts in a bag"

Local armored car companies (and psychiatrists) ought to run this story as advertisements.
