Pool Parties and Golf - Your Tax Dollars at Work
Questionable Spending at the Department of Justice is Poorly Monitored
By Sharyl Attkisson
WASHINGTON, July 23, 2010
(CBS) With a $13 trillion debt, why is the Department of Justice spending money on parties and rollercoaster rides rather than investigating crime, drug cartels, prosecuting terrorists?
Untold millions of your tax dollars are paying for recreation in the name of crime prevention: pool parties, rollercoaster rides, and police donut-eating contests. The idea is that fun activities keep kids out of trouble, build self-esteem and prevent crime.
CBS News investigative correspondent Sharyl Attkisson reports the problem is the money comes from the Department of Justice - which doesn't even have enough resources to keep up on analyzing foreign intelligence.
Now, the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO)has found nobody is measuring just how much is spent on the recreation - or whether it even works.
Sen.Tom Coburn, R-Okla., estimates well over $100 million tax dollars over five years has been spent on recreation to fight crime. Coburn says poor tracking leads to questionable spending. At least $200,000 was spent for officials to attend conferences at golf resorts in Florida and Palm Springs, or a film festival featuring "Santa, The Fascist Years."
Many of the grants are earmarked by Congress without the normal public review. Justice Department officials told the GAO that it makes them harder to scrutinize. So they rely on recipients to follow the rules: not all of them do.

(I know - CBS is actually reporting on the mess? There must be so much corruption that they can't hold it in much longer.)
We The People better get real serious about demanding an investigation into all areas of this Regime before the toilet empties into the sewer.
I worked as a security policeman and veterans career counselor for the State of Iowa for 15 years. They never so much as bought me lunch in all that time, much less anything else. What the Hell is going on here?!
Because they are no longer the Justice Department. They’re now the “getting even with whitey” department.
yes - why is CBS reporting on government overspending under a DemocRAT administration? Jumping on the “someone besides Obama” bandwagon?
The Hippies won.
I would think someone should draw a comparison with Obama as what happens to most people who win a massive lottery jackpot.
From what I have seen all across America the majority of those blow all the money in a year or less on parties, bling and worthless investments initiated by scam artists.
They often become worse off financially later on down the road.
In this case its America that Obama is throwing to the winds aimlessly, all for the purpose of elevating himself as a Roman Emperor.
And here is a curious fact of what led to the downfall of that Roman empire, they consumed granulated lead for its sweetness not realizing the poisonous effect it had upon the mind, and thus is the basis for the historical facts of Romans going crazy with power, greed and illogical political aims.
Obamas “lead” so to speak is his appetite for Islam, it has already irreversibly poisoned his mind.

It’s not like they’re going to Vegas or anything. /s
I read that the spending was tracked for the last 5 years.....Bush’s fault again?????
That’s the reason for CBS to write this story.
I would like to see an updated comic frame of O playing the role of Kofi Annan when he is looking out the window of the UN at a guy holding up someone for their money and is counting stacks of cash on his desk. He looks out and says,”Amateurs.” But have O be the one saying “Amateurs”
I’d sooner let my children hang out with Catholic Priests than with cops, who I trust somewhat less than criminals.
