400 CPS teachers to get the ax this week
200 other staffers also targeted on eve of key budget talks

It has begun. The first round of the long-anticipated, school-based layoffs by Chicago Public Schools to deal with a record $370 million budget deficit will claim 600 staffers by week's end.
Notices began going out Wednesday to 400 classroom teachers and 200 educational support personnel, a CPS official said. The 600 represent staff at about 200 Track E elementary schools that start their year earlier than most schools, on Aug. 10.
The notifications -- actually confirmations of the layoff-possibility notices CPS and other districts were required by law to have sent teachers earlier this summer in the face of an Illinois cash crunch -- come as the district and Chicago Teachers Union prepare for budget talks that start Friday.

For All Teachers' Whining, Almost Half of Chicago Area Teachers Make $100K a Year
D.C. Public Schools fires 241 bad teachers.
NJ teacher retirements at record high; some spurred by Gov. Chris Christie agenda
Dumb headline.
Chicago, Kenya?
Good news for the overall education of the students.
The less those union thugs are able to indoctrinate the kids, the better their chance of actually learning something.
The Senate just knocked out 10 Billion dollars from the War Fund bill that the Democrats put in there to fund program to keep teachers from getting laid (off).
Guess they are worried about their re-election coming up in November.
Ah yes, free public education: the welfare that even Republicans vote for.
“400 Chicago Public Schools teachers to get the ax this week (Isn’t Hussein from there?)”
sniff...(wipes eyes)....I haven’t been this happy in a month.
Should be able to find a printing press and just print more money. I don’t see a big deal here.
These 600 should have been let go last year but stimulus dollars “saved” their jobs. So much for the Summer of Recovery.
Mmmmmm, Mmmmmmm, Mmmmmmmm,
Barak Hussein Obama!
Mmmmmm, Mmmmmmm, Mmmmmmmm.
It will be interesting to see what they offer as proof for the proposition that having these teachers made a difference.
I predict the first to go will be those who least toed the party line. It will be a purge, obvious to the rest.
If they really want to make a dent they should cut 400 from the top down, not bottom up.
$00 is nothing. Just go to 30 kids in a class room and we get rid of thousands of worthless teachers.
I bet close to all 400 voted for Obama.
400 Chicago Public Schools teachers are axed to take a hike.
Better?
I typically have 24 in my composition classes and 40 in my literature classes, and the grading is a bit crazy but still manageable. My colleagues in other departments have to deal with much larger classes, and do just fine without running to the union every other day.
This cannot be. The great state of Illinois has gambling boats and the lottery. Both were sold to the state as the saviors of the state public schools.
Better would be unretouched by you.
“This cannot be. The great state of Illinois has gambling boats and the lottery. Both were sold to the state as the saviors of the state public schools”.
They sold the same load of BS here in NJ; it was just used to spend even more $.
“I bet close to all 400 voted for Obama.”
They really are a captive group; the state workers that supported Jon Corzine here in NJ were shocked when he turned on them in an (unsuccessful) attempt to garner enough support for re-election. Now Governor Christie is really cleaning house, and winning over a lot of normally liberal people that are being crushed by taxes.
Same thing in Louisiana. :0)
Attended a function in Springfield that shared the same hotel as the union(s) that represented the Chicago public school teachers, and let me say those gals had not missed many meals in their lives.
