Florida church sponsors 'International Burn a Koran Day'
LA Atheism Examiner ^ | July 22, 2010 | Hugh Kramer

Posted on 07/25/2010 10:19:08 PM PDT by citizenredstater9271

The Dove World Outreach Center, a non-denominational church in Gainesville FL, is planning to mark this year's anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks with a little bonfire of Korans, the holy book of Islam. They even have a Facebook page with a mission statement to justify their actions:

"On September 11th, 2010 we will burn the Koran on the property of Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, FL in remembrance of the fallen victims of 9/11 and to stand against the evil of Islam. Islam is of the devil!"

The church, which also protests against issues such as homosexuality, same-sex marriage, and abortion, has decorated it's front lawn with signs proclaiming "Islam is of the devil!" and it's pastor, Terry Jones, has even authored a book with that title.

According to Jones, the organizers got the idea from another Facebook event, "Everybody Draw Muhammad Day" earlier this year.

In an article released by Religion News Service (RNS), Jones said that protests are key to the mission of his church.

"We feel, as Christians, one of our jobs is to warn," said Jones, and that the goal these and other protests are to give Muslims an opportunity to convert.

Since the Facebook page went up a week ago, Jones said people have been sending him Korans to burn.

Response from Florida's Islamic community has been relatively muted so far. September 11 this year falls within the Eid al-Fitr holiday when Muslims mark the end of fasting for the holy month of Ramadan. RNS reports that local Muslims are planning to use the feast as an opportunity to share Islamic traditions and Qurans with the church members and the wider community.

This is something every church needs to do. Political correctness is taking over Ameirca and now we have a muslim president. We need to bring America back to it's Constitution and Christian roots and this is the way to start.

I think this is a very poor idea, this is exactly the kind of thing that would rile up even moderate Muslims — how would we like it if the Muslim countries would have “burn the Bible” days.

I am all for calling the terrorists Islamist terrorists, because they DO commit their terrorism in the name of their religion. I am against allowing them to mock our sacred Ground Zero by building a mosque nearby.

BUT burning Korans is ill-advised and counterproductive.

I wonder how many “Burn the Bible!” days there are sponsored by mosques. Would we even hear about ones that occur in Islamic countries like Saudi Arabia or Malaysia?

What is the impact of events such as these?

Oh my, no Obama care for them!

Burning Korans is too much of a health risk to fall within the Public Option guidelines. Its worse than a pre-existing condition.

These folks are on the right track to baiting the fascist mob now running the country. Lets see what develops.

But burning them won't garner much of a response from the Islamic fatwa-ists, its the trampling on them with feet that really ticks them off.The trampling needs to come before the burning.

From the article: “He (Ibrahaim Hooper) said CAIR’s research shows that anti-Muslim bias decreases when people have access to accurate information about Islam...”

If by “accurate” you mean islamic propoganda, then I believe you. If however, by accurate, you actually MEAN accurate, then I seriously doubt it.

Your post: “how would we like it if the Muslim countries would have “burn the Bible” days.”

Either you’re being sarcastic, or you are just a naive fool. In muzzie countries, it’s illegal to be a Christian, and is only barely tolerated by the governments there because they are charged a special non-muzzie tax. And don’t even try to convert any muzzies to Christianity... it’s the death penalty for you and your convert if you do.

Your post: “...this is exactly the kind of thing that would rile up even moderate Muslims...”

Hah hah hah!! Good one!! Yeah, it’s our fault that otherwise wonderful people suddenly want to blow us to smithereens!! Dude, you are a total tool.

How is it counter productive? Jesus would burn a Koran. Jesus was not afraid to get into the faces of "religious" people and tell them they were wrong. We shouldn't be either. Either you believe in God or you don't or you believe in a false god.

"...how would we like it if the Muslim countries would have “burn the Bible” days."

That would never happen since possession of a Bible in a Muslim country would get you a punishment ranging from several years in prison, to a death sentence. Thanks for playing.

If they want to do something productive, like demanding that KSM, the 9-11 mastermind be tried in military court and after convicted to be executed, I am all for that.

But burning books accomplishes nothing, just shows we are afraid — the communist Chinese burned books.

“burning books accomplishes nothing, just shows we are afraid — “

It seems to me that the opposite is true, that NOT burning the koran shows that we are afraid. Burning their vile text definitely sends a message, and it’s not one of fear, it’s one of defiance. It may be only symbolic, but it’s better than nothing.

The muzzies are all about Symbolism, hence their desire to construct a mosque on Ground Zero. Burning their holy book, which they believe is the unfiltered word of allah, shows that we are unafraid and hold them in complete contempt.

Sure, it takes real bravery, to burn an inanimate object, a book...

As I said, there are thousands of productive ideas out there, this is just plain dumb.

Hold a Bible class, demand that the US show resolve in fighting Islamic terrorism, protest against the planned Mosque at Ground Zero....

I was lucky enough to have a World History teacher in high school make it clear that Islam gives approval to spread by the sword. That's simply a fact, and all adherents to such a cult are our enemies. Wishing it weren't so doesn't make it not so.

I will burn anything, draw anything, say anything or any damn thing I want, when I want to how I want to where I want to and I will defend my actions with whatever I want to as well as accept the results and consequences of my actions as part of the aforementioned action.

My problem is the results of my actions are now being politicized I am being herded and classified... my Freedom and Liberty suffer from Political Correctness and that just rachets up my “in your face” behavior cause I have a problem with authority (well documented over my 28 years in the Military) they didn’t change me or win then, neither will Zero and his minions now... and I’m not worried about the UCMJ now at all so...

I see PORK in my future, Bacon, Ham etc and I plan on being in every little place (with my Dog) where anyone says I can’t be and I will have a thriving business and a huge smile on my face.

I would gladly burn one but I don’t own one nor would spend the money to buy one. If I had one I would pour bacon fat on it 1st lol. Normally I am not for burning books but since they have no respect for other religions but their own I would burn this book. I am sick of muslims & their demands. No alcohol or dogs in taxi’s, foot baths etc. Since they push their bs religion on everyone I guess burning their Koran isn’t a big deal. I still have the right to do it so far...

BUT burning Korans is ill-advised and counterproductive.

The problem is, Muslim countries are allowed to enforce discriminative laws against all other religions and suffer no stigma for doing so. That encourages them, and as a tenet of their religion is to instil in their followers the notion that all other religions are to be dominated upon, and that their Allah paves the way for doing so, by making the other religions cede way to Islam, they take it as divine sanction when the rest of the world accommodates Islam while Muslim countries don't even even bother to hint reciprocity, consciously and comfortably.

This imbalance needs to be settled, or else the one-way effects of enforced Muslim ascendancy will live to see the day it rules the entire planet.

Excellent idea. I think I’ll participate. In fact CAIR used to send you out a free koran if you ask, wonder if they still do.

Actually I’d like to escalate “Burn a Koran Day” and promote it to “Nuke Mecca Day”. I’ve always advocated nuking their holy site to show that their deity is impotent.

And nuke again, every year.

I can’t believe the thread got this far without a mention of this.

As far as moose limbs are concerned, I think we should hunt them down, confiscate everything they own, and unceremoniously dump them all in moose limb countries. We should bar them from entering the United States for any reason ever, forever.

Letting moose limbs into this country is like bringing a rattlesnake into your sleeping bag.
