BP's Deepwater Oil Spill - After the Storm
The Oil Drum ^ | July26,2010 | Heading Out

Posted on 07/26/2010 7:18:39 AM PDT by Hojczyk

The “Bonnie” storm has passed, and the different vessels are not only returned to the site, but are already making progress in returning to operations. As Admiral Allen noted on Sunday

DDIII is now running the riser pipe down. They have 67 joints to complete, they've done 39 of those as of about 10:30 Central Daylight time this morning, need about five more hours to do that. They are planning to latch on to the well around midnight tonight. Development Driller II which was – had drill – was involved in drilling the backup well is returning to site and will start running their riser today.

Q4000 is inspecting the yellow pad, that is the control device that's placed subsea to operate the hydraulics. They replaced the valve on that and they plan to install it later on today and then they will begin preparations for the static kill operations.

Boonie was a storm? Who knew. Went right over us and the wind didn’t blow, the lighting never came, and we had officially 0.01 inches of rain. Some storm, it was. But wasn’t it all about the hype, and not the reality.

But that storm we had yesterday, that was a boozy. Winds howled, rain a few inches ... And the lightening was a wowzer

It's my understanding that there will be two kills...one from the top and one at the bottom.

I'm really praying for everything to work...for the Gulf States, for their people, for us and for Bp.

Just like 3 Mile Island....someday, something was gonna happen...we just never figured it would be so spectacular and devastating.

Wishing all well!!

“I’m really praying for everything to work...for the Gulf States, for their people, for us and for Bp.”

Me too.

Also praying for the drilling to resume and the ham-handed way in which the industry moratorium was ordered will be overturned.

These people need their jobs back.

I predict a sharp drop-off in productivity...

LOL -— You needed to escape all the lightening slapping down right outside the window ...

Although hiding in the closet would work as well.

Oh c'mon!

I thought maybe you were going to come up with a good one about how the vicious storm was picking up the crude, hurling it up in the air and in the presence of all that water and billions of volts of lightning power, it was causing a chemical "cracking" and only pure 195 proof ethanol was coming down as rain.

The original "White Lightning"

How ya had all the buckets out, dumped the water out of the rain barrels, laying on the roof with our mouths open.....

But NOOOOO!

I absolutely agree.

I'm betting that Obama goes to Florida with his buddy Crist and announces that the moratorium will be lifted pending the receipt of a book on "how to fix a leak and make everything nice, nice" written by all the big oil companies and approved by the MMS and EPA.

The moratorium was pure political. He disgusts me.

I've never seen the MSM cover a tropical storm like they did Bonnie. They soooo wanted it to rip open the leak.

The worst description I heard was Shep stating the BOP was *delicately* resting atop the well.

The idea that a tropical storm on the surface would affect objects 5,000 feet below on the ocean floor is absurd beyond belief. But, for the MSM, hope springs eternal . . .

You know, so many of the journos have mentioned on air that they have scuba dived, there is no reason on Earth why they don’t know that a storm isn’t even felt at 40 feet. You only experience the storm at the surface, in the last few feet and even the surge isn’t usually a problem away from shore.

So, why not bring that experience to the job and report facts?

I know, I know......

well ROCKLOBSTER, you would have had to be here ... It was something spectacular ... When lightening is crashing into the water a few hundred yards from you, it’s intense. Sort of like flash-bang all at the same time.

So far no oil in SWFL ...

We call that a rain shower in Texas. Actually look forward to them. They keep everything green.
