GAO audit: Leverage resources to stop alien smuggling(AZ standards as a model for the feds)

The Government Accountability Office recently released a study on alien smuggling, titled “(Homeland Security) Needs to Better Leverage Investigative Resources and Measure Program Performance Along the Southwest Border.”

GAO concluded that alien smuggling has brought “increasing violence to area communities,” and recommended Immigration and Customs Enforcement consider tracking measures used by the Arizona Attorney General’s investigations unit. Using those solutions, and creating performance measures for asset seizures from groups that smuggle illegal aliens could help the agencies further their mission along the border.
