FREEP Senators to Filibuster S3628 "Unconstitutional Disclose Act" Tuesday, July 27th 1-877-851-6437
Campaign for Liberty ^ | July 26, 2010 | Tim Shoemaker

Before the August recess, the Senate is likely to hold a vote on the First Amendment-shredding DISCLOSE Act (a.k.a. - the Establishment Protection Act). This legislation, S. 3628, targets non-profits such as Campaign for Liberty and seeks to muzzle them during the election season. The House struggled and barely passed H.R. 5175 before the July 4 recess, and with your help, we can make sure it is defeated in the Senate.

Incumbent politicians have always sought to separate their actions during the legislative season from the electoral season, and this bill gives them the opportunity to do so. Drawn up as a knee-jerk reaction to the Citizens United v. FEC Supreme Court decision this January, Democrats seek to change the rules in the middle of the game a mere 3 ½ months before the mid-term elections.

A handful of powerful organizations are intensely lobbying Senators Scott Brown, Susan Collins, and Olympia Snowe to support the DISCLOSE Act by writing editorials and contacting media in their respective states. If we intend to stop this legislation from passing, we must surpass these efforts with our opposition. Currently they have all indicated misgivings on the bill, but they must hear from their constituents in opposition to this unconstitutional legislation.

We must make every effort to ensure this legislation meets its demise when they bring it to the floor for a vote. Whether it be calling, emailing, or faxing your senators, writing an op-ed to your local paper, informing your friends and family, or stopping into your senators' local offices, whatever action you can take at this time will help in defeating this egregious affront to our constitutionally protected rights of free speech, privacy, and freedom of association.

What a waste of time that Scott Brown was, by the way. Healthcare might’ve theoretically been worse, but he didn’t stop it. And he’s done nothing else.

Notice when they talk, they say things like, ‘I ran on’, or “I say’...

that’s to deceive...

They don’t listen to us.

They don’t care.

Most of them will get re-elected.

There is a reason they don’t listen to us: be it on Healthcare or Financial Reform or our rights.

FYI - Scott Brown is on record as opposing DISCLOSE. His reason: gives unions too much power.

You are wrong. The New England RINO's may be untouchable but we absolutely can primary the RINO's from solid conservative states. IF Utah can do it. So can South Carolina, etc., etc.

The reason Grahmnesty won re-election was the Republican Party was satisfied with a RINO in office. There was no big name competition for his senate seat.

It is up to an organization like the Tea Party to hold the Republicans accountable for the candidates they run.

Grahamnesty was very fortunate to run in 2008 and not 2010. He will be exposed badly in 2014 because of his record and I assume none of the obama agenda will have been repealed. These Senate republicans are totally worthless.

We need more insurgent candidates. I don’t care for Rand Paul but he smacked McConnell good.

Why doesn’t the media point out how unconstitutional this bill is? If the democrats had confidence in what they were doing they’d expedite judicial review. The reason they don’t is because they’re communists attacking free speech.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. However, it is up the the republicrats to put up a candidate with good name recognition.

After all, we are in the state that nominated Alvin Greene.

It would help if those of us who don't know the contents of every single bill in the Congress could read at least a sentence or two encapsulating the bad meat of this particular piece of legislation.

All this reminds me of the thousands of gun control laws...more laws the criminals (Congress) will ignore. Case in point:

“Lawmakers Slow to Comply With New Filing Requirement”

http://www.cqpolitics.com/wmspage.cfm?docid=news-000003093195
Scores of lawmakers missed a deadline to start disclosing their ties to political action committees as required by law.
Some of them were sponsors of the law that imposed the new requirement.
Such widespread failure to officially declare their connections to so-called “leadership PACs” means it may be some time before voters can see whether their senators and representatives have auxiliary funds that let them distribute money separately from their re-election committees.

The new disclosures were due at the Federal Election Commission by March 29.

The deadline was set by the FEC as it implemented a larger campaign finance overhaul law passed in September 2007 (PL 110-81). While more than 230 lawmakers met the deadline, a significant number with known connections to leadership PACs did not

They don’t care.

BUT WE CARE, AND YOU NEVER KNOW HOW, WHEN OR WHO IT WAS THAT WAS INFLUENCED BY YOUR CALL TO DO THE RIGHT THING. AND THAT MEANS WE MUST CONTINUE TO CALL, WRITE, TEA PARTY AND TELL THESE SENATORS WHAT WE THE PEOPLE WANT.

THEY WORK FOR US, THEY TOOK AN OATH TO DEFEND AND UPHOLD THE CONSTITUTION AND WE WANT THEM TO DO THEIR JOB.

KEEP ON THEIR BACKS...THERE ARE MORE OF US THAN THERE ARE OF THEM AND WE MUST NEVER STOP DRIVING HOME THE POINT.

STAY FOCUSED, PERSERVERE AND DO NOT DROP THE BALL. SWALLOW YOUR DISAPPOINTMENTS AND KEEP AT IT. TOGETHER WE STAND.

His office said he would vote against it but was non committal on the filibuster, which is the whole shooting match. All 41 Republicans must filibuster because Reid has shown us he will buy off Senators for Cloture when he needs them.
