Obama skidding with Hispanics

Of course, the Political Wire headline for this story is “Obama Still Strong Among Hispanic Voters“:

A new AP/Univision poll finds 57% of Hispanics approve of President Obama’s job performance compared with 44% among the general population.

The AP spin is not nearly as heavy:

President Barack Obama’s once solid support among Hispanics is showing a few cracks, a troubling sign for Democrats desperate to get this critical constituency excited about helping the party hold onto Congress this fall.

***

Still, 57 percent of Hispanics approve of the president’s overall job performance compared with 44 percent among the general population in the latest AP national polling.

What neither Political Wire nor the AP report is that the previous AP/Univision poll (.pdf), conducted in May, showed 66 percent job approval for Pres. Obama. Interestingly, the two AP/Univision polls are not directly comparable. The May poll was conducted by Roper from 5/7-12, whereas the new poll was conducted by NORC over a much longer period, from 3/11-6/3. Accordingly, it is difficult to extract a short-term trend from this data.

However, the trend is quite visible in the data at Gallup’s Presidential Job Approval Center. According to Gallup, Obama’s approval numbers among Hispanics has slid from the low-to-mid-70s at the end of 2009 to the mid-50s now. (In contrast, the similar numbers for whites have not moved much outside the low-40s to high-30s.)

One thing the AP gets right is that the Dems consider Hispanics a critical constituency, in both the shorter and longer term. But given the trend, and Obama’s even more anemic numbers on whether he is meeting the needs of Hispanic voters, Dems seeking to energize this constituency have their work cut out for them. The Obama administration’s demagogy over Arizona’s immigration law boosted their ratings on some issues, but the big picture is one of skidding support.

Obama won’t go to Arizona because he can’t prove citizenship. I find this interesting. Is he any better than the illegals coming in from Mexico?

I’m not aware of anyone contesting his citizenship status.

AP and Univision?

Yes indeed, those are two ultra dependable sources of information. /s

Even Sabado Gigante's Don Francisco uses a fake name -- he's actually Mario Luis Kreutzberger Blumenfeld.

“a troubling sign for Democrats desperate to get this critical constituency excited about helping the party hold onto Congress this fall.”

Kind of hard to get this critical constituency excited if they’re on the way home to Mexico.

Do you really see any evidence of that ? If so, this is good news.

When all else fails, stir the race pot.

That's all Democrats will have! Think about it. Will they be able to play on the first black president, the excitement of a historic president to rally people or get support? There's no coat train these senators and representatives can ride on this time around as in 2008. Can they play the opposition game with Iraq or Afghanistan? It's their war now, even though they tried distance themselves years past making it into a Republican war and Bush's war. Can they argue the dangers of a high deficit. Can they make themselves the champion of the unemployed and say they unemployed are caused by the party in Congress and President? Can they say that we are winning in Afghanistan, or can they take credit for Iraq? Can they say the world is a safer more stable place in N. Korea, Iran......? Can they say we are more secure because of their cuts on defense i.e. missile defense, FCS, F22, Zumwald.....? What about the environment, will they play that card? What do you think about that one?

Seriously, the Democrats only have three things they can do:

1. Hate and blame Bush.

2. Promise redistribution of wealth, more government cheese.

3. Race! Race! Race! Play the race card with the Tea Party. Play the race card with the Hispanic voter using things like Arizona. Play the race card at every turn because it's one of the last things they have where there is no performance measure, where the glaring 9.8% unemployed, the housing market, deficits, an unpopular health care bill, Iran snubbing you, your generals resigning after they call you a fool essentially have no impact.

hahahaha.... ANYBODY that thought "hispanics" , I mean from Mexico, South/Central America, likes a mayate hasn't been hanging around Los Angeles.

What a joke. Only the PR's in Chicago like their plantation owners who are African American.

Talk about "racism". For a little taste, ask some prison guards how much bon homie there is between say, Florencia 13 and Crips or the Bloods. hahahahahaha.

click here to hear the love between "hispanics and african-americans" read the comments. Lots of poetry out there.

He OUGHT to be skidding into the low teens with EVERY demographic group: white, black, rich, poor, high school grads, college grads, dropouts, Asians, gays, transgenders, middle class, independents, Republicans, Democrats, students, blue collar, white collar, business owners, the homeless, the elderly....hell, I find it hard to think of a group that would APPROVE of this jackass.

Maybe public union workers. But he is really cutting their throat, too, by pissing on everyone ELSE and favoring THEM, he is turning Americans against the very idea of Public Unionization.

Of course, most of those SEIU zombies don’t see it...they follow like lemmings/cultists.

The challenge is to transfer Obama’s declining popularity to 435 dem House candidates, and 36 dem Senate candidates.

A few points here for Hispanics, a several points there for whites, a few points for independents, and it adds up.

In my native SoCal, my associations during my lifetime have included many, many “hispanics” often born here like me.

Many are veterans, many are grandparents.

Our crappy local economy affects them and they can tie it to dems and Obama.

There is much more fruit available, searching for anti-Obama/democrat votes among Hispanics than with blacks.

No, I don’t see any evidence. Just wishful thinking.

I know but I’d bet he would be worried about it. Probably no though. I doubt he would be pulled over but it would be interesting.
