Chevy Volt to cost $41,000 before rebate (ObamaMobile goes on sale)
State-controlled Los Angeles Times ^ | July 27, 2010 | Jerry Hirsch

The Chevrolet Volt, the first mass-market electric vehicle from General Motors Co., will have a sticker price starting at $41,000 when it hits showrooms later this year.

But government tax credits and rebates designed to speed the entry of electric vehicles into the marketplace will make the price more attractive. There's a federal tax credit of $7,500 for electric vehicles. That lowers the Volt price to $33,500. An earlier report factored in an additional $5,000 credit for Californians, which would have brought the price to $28,500, but GM said the Volt will not be included in the state's special rebate program.

The sticker price of the hybrid Toyota Prius, the current favorite of gasoline misers and eco-drivers, ranges from $22,150 to $28,820, depending on the trim level and equipment.

America's first GOVERNMENT-MANDATED VEHICLE fresh from GOVERNMENT MOTORS. They should have called it the ObamaMobile because it's just what the Kenyan told them to make! And it's over-priced, too! WHAT A PIECE OF JUNK!

How long till we're all REQUIRED to buy one (for our OWN GOOD, of course)? Electric cars DON'T WORK! Duuuh.

Does the price include an SUV to TOW this car? Or, maybe it has a 400-mile cord! LOL!

It has an onboard generator - it actually has unlimited mileage... as long as you keep feeding it that eeeeeeevil gasoline.

As crappy as the thing is likely to be, it actually has infinite range. 40 miles on battery then it starts its internal gasoline generator and uses that for power instead. Keep feeding it gas and it’ll keep going.

Only Big Brother would invest in a car that can only go 40 miles! No one actually interested in PROFIT would dream of it.

I have to pay taxes to help rich people afford solar to beat the high electric prices that I pay, I may as well be forced to buy rich people economical cars so that they can beat the high gas prices that I pay, maybe I will have enough blood left to pay for their kids college that I can’t afford for myself or mine.

How much juice will it draw on that 10 hour recharge?

As compared to, say.....6-8 100 Watt lightbulbs?

4 hours at 220V. Wouldn’t that be like 4 hours with the dryer on high? or your water heater?

As compared to a some gas cars that can go that far on $2.79 worth of unleaded?

My prediction: Not ONE of these ObamaMobiles will be sold to the general public. They’ll all be purchased by government agencies, which will never use them because nobody will want to ride in one.

Can you imagine the look on a cop’s face if he was issued one of these as a squad car? I can see the headline now: “Car Chase Ended so Police Could Stop to Plug In — Liberals Shocked When Criminal Refuses to Wait!”

Did you even bother to read my post? That won’t happen because the car actually has a gasoline-powered generator on board.

IT ISN’T BATTERY-ONLY! So repeating this point you’re trying to make only makes you look like a fool; better to use some other point to attack it (and it has a lot of targets.)

High efficiency cleaned-up diesels likely a better “green choice”. Those don’t waste energy hauling heavy batteries around.
