Chevy Volt to cost $41,000 before rebate (ObamaMobile goes on sale)
State-controlled Los Angeles Times ^ | July 27, 2010 | Jerry Hirsch

The Chevrolet Volt, the first mass-market electric vehicle from General Motors Co., will have a sticker price starting at $41,000 when it hits showrooms later this year.

But government tax credits and rebates designed to speed the entry of electric vehicles into the marketplace will make the price more attractive. There's a federal tax credit of $7,500 for electric vehicles. That lowers the Volt price to $33,500. An earlier report factored in an additional $5,000 credit for Californians, which would have brought the price to $28,500, but GM said the Volt will not be included in the state's special rebate program.

The sticker price of the hybrid Toyota Prius, the current favorite of gasoline misers and eco-drivers, ranges from $22,150 to $28,820, depending on the trim level and equipment.

We don't have enough coal now to run our power plants.

What happens if 10% of autos use electric power?

"I wonder why the batteries are called rare earth?"

You'll better understand the "rare" modifier when the battery fails and you have to buy a new one.

Just imagine what kind of resto you could do to an old classic car with $41k. You could put every conceivable luxury add-on in it.

Might as well put a mast and sail on a Chevy cobalt and call it a day.

English Translation: We are all buying electric cars. Most of us are being forced to buy them for other people to drive.

The government will tell you which days you are allowed to drive.

Amish Paradise

As I walk through the valley where I harvest my grain
I take a look at my wife and realize she's very plain
But that's just perfect for an Amish like me
You know, I shun fancy things like electricity
At 4:30 in the morning I'm milkin' cows
Jedediah feeds the chickens and Jacob plows... fool
And I've been milkin' and plowin' so long
that Even Ezekiel thinks that my mind is gone
I'm a man of the land, I'm into discipline
Got a Bible in my hand and a beard on my chin
But if I finish all of my chores and you finish thine
Then tonight we're gonna party like it's 1699

We've been spending most our lives
Living in an Amish paradise
I've churned butter once or twice
Living in an Amish paradise
It's hard work and sacrifice
Living in an Amish paradise
We sell quilts at discount price
Living in an Amish paradise

Algore will probably be one of the few people who will buy one.

He will make some poor intern drive it in the caravan behind his chauffeur driven SUV.

Chevy Volt ($33,500) vs Mazda 3 ($15,345)

The Mazda 3 gets 33mpg highway so with the $18,155 you save you can buy 6,051 gallons of gas ($3/gal) and drive almost 200,000 miles.

This whole electric car thing is out of control.

I was traveling on I-64 West toward Richmond from Newport News and stopped at a Rest Area. This State-run rest stop had free chargers for electric vehicles!

That means our taxes will now pay for everybody to charge up their car. I thought we would have to pay for a charge like stopping at a gas station.

Does the price include an SUV to TOW this car? Or, maybe it has a 400-mile cord! LOL!

They could just put a pair of recessed contact rails down each lane of every highway, like a gigantic slot car track. Like with slot cars, this system could steer the cars on highway trips, too, allowing the driver to concentrate on the DVD player screen.
