Paul McCartney, pals serenade Obamas at White House

Whatever your opinion of President Obama, there's no question he has spectacularly revived the number and quality of musical performances in the White House.

Look no further than "Paul McCartney: The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song in Performance at the White House," taped early last month and screening on PBS on Wednesday, the fourth "In Performance" show thus far during his young administration.

Yes, Sir Paul is English. But the award is not restricted to U.S. citizens. Named in honor of brothers Ira and George Gershwin, the award is given to a composer or performer whose lifetime work exemplifies the standard of excellence associated with the Gershwins. The first one, in 2007, was won by Paul Simon. The second was awarded last year to Stevie Wonder.

You nailed it. The Obamas are moving on on up to a de-lux apartment in the sky. Only it's the White House and the entire parasitic family has airplanes and cooks, butlers, stooges, gardeners, nannies at their disposal 24/7/365

If ManChellle wants to jet off to Spain with one daughter (while the economy stinks for real Americans) on the taxpayer's dime, there is no stopping her

I'm just thinking that Obama shines compared to president Camacho.......maybe we should count our blessings

Reading Obama in that video: It’s like Yes it’s all about me and I’m giving you the privilege of being around me my subjects!

(Don't bother looking for McCartney's dig at former White House occupant George W. Bush: "After the last eight years, it's great to have a president who knows what a library is," he said. A PBS spokesperson reportedly said the comment occurred after the planned program had concluded and after President Obama left the room.)

Not likely, Mr (anonymous)'PBS spokesperson' ... Paulie meant to say that swipe at Bush, as well as Obama meant for it to be said.
How convenient that Obama was supposedly 'out of the room' already when Macca uttered the words, therefore being able to feign no involvement in it, according to this 'PBS spokesperson'

As a lifelong Beatles fan, but not really of Macca's post-Beatles work, it has been fairly apparent over the decades that McCartney completely controls everything that goes on in his concerts and presentations and appearances. There is no way that he would just 'let slip' some smarmy comment unless pre-approved beforehand, especially in a situation such as this --- accepting a prestigious award at the White House.

Sorry, Mr PBS 'spokesperson' .. this Beatles fan ain't buying your excuse.

I ain’t buying this lie nor anything that McCartney tries to sell. Make him pay for his nasty, stupid remark. Hit him where it hurts - the pocketbook.

McCartney knows exactly what he said, and it was pre-planned too, count on that! This stuff does not occur in a bubble.

What is sad is that with this smarmy comment, Macca just ended a magnificently successful career by alienating fully ONE HALF of his fan base ... maybe more.

Us Beatles fans are NOT all clueless liberals, ya know ....

Somehow reminds me of Judy Colins...

XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX WEDNESDAY, JUNE 09 1999 00:14:03 UTC XXXXX

Anti-war activist Judy Collins is set this evening to sing at a gala White House state dinner -- all the while, the US led NATO war against Yugoslavia continues unrestrained.

Collins, who made her name over the last 35 years as a social conscience, is known for her renditions of anti-war songs such as 'Masters of War', 'Song For Sarajevo', 'Last Night I Had The Strangest Dream' and 'Fortune of Soldiers'.

Calls to Collins' label ELEKTRA asking for clarification on whether her fans can still apply her passionate, idealistic songs to the current war in the Balkans were unreturned.

Incidentally, tonight's dinner -- honoring the President of the Republic of Hungary, Arpad Goncz and his wife, Mrs. Zsuzsanna Goncz -- features a menu of Copper River Salmon with Portobello Mushroom, Roasted Onions and Sweet Peppers, Fennel and Herb Salad, Toasted Caraway and Tomato Sauce, Pecan Crusted Lamb, Wilted Summer Greens, Sweet Potato Flan, Barbequed Peach Ragout, Salad of Bibb Lettuce, Asparagus and Avocado, Stilton Crisp, Tarragon Grapefruit Dressing.

And for dessert: Bing Cherry Strudel Surprise and Creme Fraeche....

#####################################################

Folk song, anybody?

How about:

"Last night I had the strangest dream, I ever had before, I dreamed Slick Clinton put ol Judy Collins on the floor, with an oink oink here, and an oink oink there, here an oink, there an oink, everywhere an oink, oink... "Judy Collins is a pig, EE AY EE AY OH..."

or possibly:

JUUUUUU-DEEEEEE
You know you gotta put on a re-ed light
The DNC needs money an so
You gotta sell your body to the night

Put on that RE-EED LIGHT,
Put on that RE-EED LIGHT,
Put on that RE-EED LIGHT............

JUUUUUU-DEEEEEE
You gotta wear that dress tonight
When the DNC needs money
They don't give a shit about what's wrong or right

Put on that RE-EED LIGHT,
Put on that RE-EED LIGHT,
Put on that RE-EED LIGHT............

..........

Gag! "Standard of excellence associated with the Gershwins"? Simon, Wonder, and McCartney are hacks.

MM says:

“McCartney knows exactly what he said, and it was pre-planned too, count on that! This stuff does not occur in a bubble.”

June:

Paul knew and meant to say exactly what he did say- and it wasn't a surprise to Obama!

How arrogant these two are!

MM says:

What is sad is that with this smarmy comment, Macca just ended a magnificently successful career by alienating fully ONE HALF of his fan base ... maybe more.

June:

I can't see that he's lost any of the ‘Fanatics,’ from what I read on the Beatles fan sites. Few (if any) are even mildly disappointed in McCartney's actions! People are still, gleefully, paying hundreds of dollars and driving long distances to see this man in concerts. (You, MM, are the rare exception of a fan who can see beyond the talent of McCartney and see the true colors of this little man!)

What is sad to me is how stupid and shallow we have become as a country to be willing to close our eyes and ears to such a disgusting and disrespectful happening as this! He was a guest in our country-in our house- accepting an award which his fanatic followers have put him in a position to receive! Instead of accepting the honor gracefully, what does he do?? Insults fully half the country with his dumb remarks, is what he chose to do!!

I have never been more than a moderate fan of Beatles or McCartney, I'm happy to say! After this I will never put another dime into helping to inflate this man's ego!

Paul LOOKS like a little old lady these days!! IMO

Not that I have anything against the way little old ladies look-(I am one myself, after all) but I like my Rock Stars to look more manly! :)

It's kinda pathetic to see these aging ‘Stars’ who have come to think of themselves as some kind of God and are exempt from normal rules of decency and respect that most people are expected to follow. If anyone fits that mold, McCartney does!

What's even sadder, though, are the ‘Fanatics’ who have almost come to the point of worshiping them and uplifted them to this lofty perch!
