President Obama will make history as the first sitting president on a daytime talk show when he visits with the ladies of "The View." But he'll be missing out on another historic occasion -- the Boy Scouts' Jamboree marking the group's 100th anniversary, right in the president's backyard. The Jamboree kicked off this week at Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia, where organizers had invited the president to speak to the 45,000 scouts in attendance. All three of Obama's predecessors have made it to one Jamboree while in office. But the president will instead be traveling Wednesday to New York for a taping of the ABC show, as well as Democratic fundraisers and a stop in New Jersey. The talk show appearance comes as campaign season moves into full swing, but also amid efforts to cap the Gulf oil spill for good, contain the damage from an unprecedented leak of Afghanistan war documents and battle Arizona over its immigration law -- set to go into effect Thursday. Obama also has an out-of-town event planned for Friday in Detroit. But while the Jamboree lasts until next Tuesday, the president is sending his regards via a videotaped message.
Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, a fellow Democrat, scoffed at the idea of a president appearing on The View. I think the president should be accessible, should answer questions that aren't pre-screened, but I think there should be a little bit of dignity to the presidency, Rendell told MSNBC, at one point comparing "The View" to "The Jerry Springer Show."

That's our Man of the People!! I think both former President Bush's should show up to honor the Scouts.
By the way, he flew into Springfield, IL for the bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln's Birthday. Now he has an important Centennial right next to home and skips it to raise cash for his party.
Bump
is anyone suprised?
Wonder what the View’s people thought of being compared to a Jerry Springer show.
The guy just continues to prove what we all know...he’s a complete a$$hole. The boy scouts is an American institution and the O could care less about anything traditionally American. What one would expect from a radical wanna be dictator who hates this country and ran for president precisely to change greatness into something sub-standard. Poo on him.
I am glad the loser from Kenya is not going to disgrace the jamboree by attending
Although I am happy to hear that obummer will not be associated with BSA I just want to add...
FUBO
Makes sense to me. I’m sure he is more comfortable on a giggly girlie coffee talk show rather than being around 40,000+ boys & young men that honor and respect God & Country.
Absolutely! Obamas view of people is exactly the opposite of what Boy Scouting is all about.
“I think there should be a little bit of dignity to the presidency,
With this pretender? You can’t teach good taste, and you can’t teach dignity.
Just as well... The Boy Scouts arn/t keen to having homosexuals hang around anyway.
To tell you the truth, the whole thing makes no sense to me. I dont see where hes going to connect with a single person watching The Spew who wouldnt have voted for him otherwise. So, from a political perspective, whats the point?
Actually, only a truly pathetic weakling of a President would chose to appear with a pack of completely ignorant and witless morons like Joy Behar, rather than say, a little trip to the lions den on Fox to attempt to slay a dragon or two there. Obamas appearance with Joy Behar, more than practically anything else hes done as President, shows what a pathetic little weakling of a human being he truly is.
His not accepting gives them more reason to celebrate.
Hey, obomba, whatever happened to those pictures of Abraham Lincoln? Whose pictures are in the frames these days, huh?
A-hole.
If it was the Young Pioneers he’d show up.
It appears the guy sucks at everything, even sucking.

I would be willing to bet these Moms are also married to the Boy Scout’s Father. Neither one of them would waste thier vote on Odumbo in 2012.
The list, ping
Of course.
I’m speculating that Obama would rather flirt with the ‘moms’ that watch the View instead spending some honorable time with the Boy Scouts who are clearly to young to vote.
I won’t be watching any news shows tomorrow. don’t care about the view, don’t watch it and so won’t watch it being on news shows either. I have better things to do with my time like enjoy my family.
The Scouts are America.
A few famous scouts

The closest any of them came to serving the people was Babs doing the wild thing with Ed Brooke.
Springer was elected twice as mayor of a great US city, once after doing the right thing after doing a wrong thing.
Obama has never sat for an interview with as capable an interrogator as Springer. Bachelor of Arts from Tulane University in political science.Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from Northwestern University.
Gee whiz, even Jimmuh Cahtah, the call-in President, didn’t go on a daytime show.
Indeed, I’ve seen Springer interviewed, and he’s very different from what one would think from his show. His show, though, probably isn’t what the View’s people want their show to be compared to.
He doesn’t want to offend the gays out there who still despise the Boy Scouts. Playing politics trumps everything with these people.
We have a few scouts in our sons troop who will make Eagle this year.
Every year since this troop has been going (nearly 50 years), every Eagle has been awarded a presidential letter (autopen I’m sure), but it is a big deal to these kids.
The troop leader informed us parents that the white house will not be doing that this year, and we should contact our local congressman to get a letter from them.
We were told that this is the first president in history who has not supported the scouts.
The kicker is, this is the 100 year anniversary, so it is a really huge deal to the kids and scout leaders.
My gawd, I can't believe Ed Rendell and I are in agreement. Whoopi and Walters will break their backs kissing The One's posterior.
This is terrible. It is way beyond politics.
I keep thinking President Obama's advisors are serving him poorly to let him make such mistakes, then I woke up. I sometimes almost think he means to insult all that is American.
I was looking at a list of famous Scouts, thinking President Obama certainly has one Scout among the people he listens to. One of the few I found that might have influence was Steven Spielberg. Bill Clinton was a Cub.

From the above ;
(Defense Secretary) Gates earned the top rank of Eagle Scout as a youth in his native Kansas. He also received the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award before he graduated from high school.
If Secretary of Defense Gates , can't tell him , nobody can. I would send Gates a telegram , I am serious. Maybe he would sign off on the certificates, he is a good man
I have had a good life with some success, awards, medals, badges, plaques, degrees , but the accomplishment I failed to complete is the one I might have the most respect for, Eagle Scout.
Bless your Scout and bless you as parents. I am told almost no Scout earns his Eagle without support and direction at home. Congratulations.
Oh, not our boy, he’s a few years away, but thank you anyway.
He’s well on the road, but he still has 2 more years, and its a struggle to keep him interested at times, its work for all of us.
We have 3 boys in our sons troop that will earn the badges this year, our son is not one of them, not yet anyways.
In any event, its disheartening, that those that are up for Eagle, have put years into the work. They will of course get the badge, but they will always know they didn’t get the presidential support, during the 100 year anniversary of scouting, and they will not have the presidential letter framed on their wall. That is something Eagles who are my age are proud of and they show them off.
We have an adult leader in our troop who has a Ronald Reagan one, that he earned when he made Eagle, it is his most prized possession, and it sits over his fireplace. Well, you get the point. No matter which president, its still an honor, imho.
What gets me even more.... Our son volunteered to be a helper at a camp this year, he was gone for 3 weeks. When we went to pick him up, the parking lot was packed, because it was a rotation of troops, so about 100 troops were leaving that Sunday, and a new batch coming in. So, the parking lot was packed to the brim, all the way out to the road. Well, we spotted no less than 6 Obama stickers in the lot. These people are clueless.
It was like seeing pro-abortion stickers at church (don’t get me started on that one, my brother belongs to a mega-church that supports abortion, gay marriage, etc). It just doesn’t add up to me.
Agreed wholeheartedly.
Obama's appearance at the Scout Jamboree would be akin to someone bringing drums full of toxic waste to a wedding reception.
In any case as a former boy scout, I remember one quality that was taught was integrity. One trait that the punk president will never have.
His absence will mean nothing.
Heck, I wouldn’t mind flirting with the moms. The big difference? I’m not the POTUS.
The sad thing is that the acting President of the US is an honorary President of the Boy Scouts. Reagan signed my Eagle Scout Award. the only thing I’d like to see Barry sign would be his resignation.
Here’s an idea: how about writing the former President Bush and telling him of your predicament? I’ll bet he would be honored to write your Scouts a letter.
The only thing I can surmise by this is would Obama rather talk to a bunch of kids whose parents are probably Conservative or talk to his base, crazy Liberals?
Now would probably be a good time to run ads saying that Obama doesn’t care about children.
Wow, that's incredible. Some things should transcend politics, but apparently not for Obama.
Mine is framed and hanging on the wall. It's signed by Richard Nixon. :-)
but the view is far more important.
I mean going on that show with a crowd watching who for the most part are just too dumb to understand what is going on in this country is far more important for him.
His questions will be how is breakfast in the white house and o my you look sexy .
The crowd claps and cheers but ask them a minute later what he said they will have no idea.
This man has made the presidency look like a part time joke of a job .
People dying, people losing jobs, two wars, debt, Govt take over of heath care which does not work (I lived it I know) etc etc etc and this man goes on a day time womens show who has a crowd which has no clue what the hell is going on in this country
go on the view to be asked how is breakfast and how do you do your workouts.
what a frigging joke this man is.
How the so called media which is so corrupt can take this guy seriously like the far left does is beyond me.
The view, what a joke
the view crowd has to be one of the dumbest crowds out there.
For the most part have no clue what is going on in this country, oil spill, what oil spill, what wars, what debt, my how great this heath care is, er what is it again.
We are so frigging messed up right now in this country
The Boy Scouts represent moral values, developing young boys into fine young men, respect for God and country, American values, freedom, patriotism and duty. This is all counter to this regime.
obama canceled this year's national day of prayer and then turned right around and authorized a national day of muslim prayer. Heck, the do-fuss even attended the muslim day of prayer right there in Washington DC!
If we don't see change in November, this County is forever lost.
Also, if he is a homo, as it sure seems so, there is no way he wants anything to do with the Boy Scouts.....or them with him.
God Bless the BSOA, May You Have 100 More Great Years.
The View is the epitome of what’s wrong with daytime TV.
“He doesnt want to offend the gays out there who still despise the Boy Scouts. Playing politics trumps everything with these people.”
You described it perfectly!
Spielberg resigned his honorary title in the late 90's because of his opposition to the Scouts exercising their Right of Assembly to determine their membership guidelines (i.e. no homosexuals or atheists). As an Eagle Scout myself, the moment I heard about this, I stopped going to see anything that Spielberg directed or produced.
That’d be a cool one too. :)
I read that Ford didn’t autopen his, they were all real signatures, he took the time to do each one.
How about the Nixon one?
From what I’ve read from Hillbuzz blogs, we don’t want this guy anywhere near our Boy Scouts. I’m glad he’s not attending.
Can you picture Little Barack as a boy scout? Instead of scouting, he was being “mentored” by Frank Marshall Davis, a pervert.
There are rumors circulating that Bush Sr. or W will make a surprise visit to the big Jamboree. I’ve heard it from a few parents already, but nothing official I don’t think.
And yes, it wouldn’t be a bad idea, but the crux of it is, that the sitting president has always acknowledged the promotion of a scout to Eagle rank, and by him acknowledging that fact on paper, the scouts record then becomes part of our nations history, as it becomes part of that presidents Archive and Presidential Library.
It just ticks me off.
I hope that if and when my son makes Eagle (2013), we will have a new president. I was wishing fondly last night after writing this post, how cool would it be for him to have his recognition letter done by a POTUS from Alaska!
