LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) Bellevue has paid a member of a Kansas church that protests at soldiers funerals $17,000. In exchange, Shirley Phelps-Roper has dropped her lawsuit against the city.
The settlement with Westboro Baptist Church, which says troop deaths are punishment for the nations tolerance of homosexuality, was signed last week.
The church says it shows that responding to public anger by taking action against it costs taxpayers.
City attorney Michael Polk didnt respond to a message seeking comment.
Phelps-Roper was arrested during a 2007 protest in Bellevue after she and her son allegedly mutilated the U.S. flag.
The settlement was signed the same day a federal judge, with agreement from Attorney General Jon Bruning, permanently stopped the flag-mutilation law from being enforced. They say its unconstitutional.
One of these days these “people” are going to piss off the wrong people.
The comic book convention folks handled them pretty well. Instead of getting mad, they just made fun of them.
So now a federal Judge listens to State of Nebraska Jon Bruning? I have to be missing something here. I thought Congress passed the Flag mutilation law, so what gives?
I wish the Phelps’ lunatics would do us all a favor and develop a fetish for Haley’s Comet or something like the Heaven’s Gate folks did.
I’ll even chip in for the farewell party.
Yup. Not everyone cares about money or their own personal freedom.
Here in WYOMING, we are ready for the like of those dirtbags. We have a full company of Vets that attend every military funeral just incase some of those commie dirtbags show up. We have about 7 OP-PLANS ready to execute depending on the situation. None of them are good for the Weasleburgh Baptist group.
I don’t ever wish for something wrong to happen to people but this may be a serious exception.
1) They actually believe that they are Christians.
2) God approves of their behavior.
Their silver and gold has corroded.
They melted away pretty fast before the mocking at the comic festival.
I saw the video of that, it was pretty funny
So, the 405,399 casualties in World War II was God's punishment for ______________ (fill in the blank). If you can't think of something, ask your father or your grandfather. If they are not alive, ask your mother or grandmother. Caution: be ready to run because one of these is liable to kick your rear or slap your face.
If you were able to put some sin in the blank then ask yourself, wasn't World War II fought to protect Judeo-Christian values along with the freedom that is a result of these values? Besides, Christ died for our sins on the cross. The punishment idea is a false one and you should slap yourself if you did fill in the blank.
These Westboro Baptist Church members remind me of Muslims who say that Allah was mad because a 13 year old Saudi girl had a camera equipped cell phone at school. Her punishment was 90 lashes and two months imprisonment. I am sure that if Westboro Baptist Church members had their way, homosexuals would get the 90 lashes and a bullet to the head to help god (this is a man made god and does not merit getting a capital "G") get through another hissy fit. Both the Westboro Baptist Church members and Muslims see god with an anger management problem that can only be fixed through some form of severe punishment. Even with the sacrifice of his only begotten Son, Jesus Christ there remains in their god this notion that there is more that needs to be done for those pesky sins. And that requires allowing bad things to happen or for useful fools to make sure they do happen.
These people are servants of Satan.
They must be resisted and fought against at all times.
You intended to say that They believe that God approves of their behavior. Right?
And when they do, how hard will some good Southern sheriff try to solve it?
Not calling for violence, of course...........
When the state refuses to act on behalf of The People, it falls to The People to act in their own best interests. The rule of law protects the minority only as long as the majority subscribes to it.
Smacking myself in the forehead: there was supposed to be a “think” before the semicolon.
That is what I get for not proofreading befoe hitting post, My apologies to everyone.
Bingo! I pray AGAINST them.....
While I was still in Lawrence....I saw the Phelps gang protesting in town (across from my favorite frozen Custard place). A truck load of college kids drove by (license plate covered)......and tossed a bucket of yellow paint on the Phelps gang. People stopped and actually started cheering for the college kids. They are reviled everywhere.
1) They actually believe that they are Christians.
2) God approves of their behavior.
No, they are opportunistic lawyers. The use entrapment to generate lawsuits.
Their rhetoric is designed to PO the maximum number of people per exposure, including churches, Baptists, military families, gays etc.
:) Don’t ya hate it when that happens. God Bless you.
Malfunctioning honey wagon.
Stench wahes off too easy. Now getting sprayed with skunk scent in skunk oil, PEe-Eeee-UUUU go wash again, and again, and again , and again, and burn those clothes you had on.
